Happy 2012 everyone! So I am wanting to get serious with regards to studying and really learning the game of poker (math and theory). Even though I am not a beginner (played for around 5 years) I have not invested a lot of time studying my game and improving it and have played mostly based on flow of the game. Thanks again.

Happy 2011 everybody!

It has been a while since I put out my first blog entry here on CR. As per usual scroll down to skip anything you don't want to read.

Pink floyd:

So it was not the whole band, but it is the best thing considering the band is no longer together. I ended up seeing Roger Waters play the whole Wall album in Vancouver, Canada. It is an experience like no other, when you are able to see your favorite artist play. This is the second time I have seen Waters play in Vancouver and both times although different concerts (different songs) they were both out of this world. I am not sure how lenient other venues around the world are with smoking weed inside the place are but here in Vancouver they are pretty calm about it which only adds to the experience I believe. Now I am not a regular weed smoker (3-4 times a year) but I had to participate in the festivities.

Hockey:

So our team was in the championships for this hockey league for the third straight season and although there has been some blowout games and considering we have neverlost (some ties though) the games are well contested and generally close games. Our team came out unorganized and lack of effort. Throughout most of the game they were the dominant team and as a result my team was down 6-1! Now with about 12 minutes to go something just clicked for our team and the game took a complete 180 degree turn to our benefit. Our team scored 6 unanswered goals including a hat trick from yours trulyand before we knew it we were up by one goal with 4 minutes to go. Because I am a bit of noob with inserting pics here on CR I m having some difficulty uploading them but oh well.

Vegas:

So I went to Vegas for two reasons. 1) to support two of my buddies in the World series of beer pong http://www.bpong.com/ and 2) to have a great way to start off the new year.
Now my friends team got absolutelycrushed. They were decent, or so we thought and even though they had practiced quite a bit they ended up going I believe 3-9 in the 12 game round robin. I stayed at the flamingo the first night and that hotel was pretty shitty IMO but I did not expect much to begin with. After the first night 4 of us switched to the MGM which was much better obviously. I stayed in vegasfor 4 nights and to be honest, I didn't really get into the major partying mode. Of course I gambled but did not go clubbing once (my friends did while I played poker and they said it sucked because the guy to girl ratio was about 4:1). One cool thing was the Insanity ride at the Stratosphere which was much more terrifying leading up to the actual ride than the actual ride. Overall this vegas trip was probably a 5/10 and it did not help the fact that the weather was fucking super cold with it even snowing for a bit one of the nights.

Poker:

Poker has been going pretty good the past 5 weeks or so. I have made some decent sized cashes (for me at least ). Some of the most notable ones are the following:

2nd 5$ turbo for ~3500
4th8$Rebuy for~3800
4th 55$ for 1500
1st 27$ turbo for ~4800

There has been quite a few smaller cashes as well. I am excited about the recent results but realize that I still have a lot of leaks in my game and a lot of work to do in my game. I am excited though where my game is heading.

Now for the cash game hand.

So I am playing 1/2 at the MGM and I am not typically a cash game player. In fact I barely play cash at all but I had been playing quite a bit throughout my stay and I realized I had a huge edge as the players andthe plays were so atrocious. So I built my stack up from 180 to around850 and this donkey who was seated to my direct left was the juciestplayer I have ever seen at the poker table. He was limp then calling 6X raises UTG with 8 2 off suit, calling down three streetswithsmall pocket pair when there were 4 over cards on the board etc. I was the table captain and I felt confident in all of the plays I was making. So I am on the button andit gets limped around to me (around 5 limpersso far) and I see KJ os andI raise to 15 and3 other players call including the sb who is the donkey.

Flop: J 7 2 Rainbow

I bet around 3/4 of pot with top pair 2nd bets kicker and only the donkey calls who had around 1000 to start the hand off.

Turn: K

I think this is one of the best cards for me in the deck as most likely he did not have a set and andif he had any part of the flop he will still be drawing. so with the pot around160 I bet 108. he calls almost immediately. I am full of confidence and I know I am ahead 100% now.

River: 2

So no flushes and all straight draws missed. so the pot is around375 andhe checks pretty fast again. I take about a minute debating my options thinking what he would call two streets with andthen what amount he would call on the river with. I think he does have quite a few jacks in his range with maybe a KX if he floated the flop and a small chance for a 2 in his range, not impossible but unlikely. I end up deciding that betting is the best option as I am losing value if I check so I end up betting 175. He takes about 20 seconds andI am thinking okif he is taking this long I for sure have it and hopefully he calls. He then announces raise which my body then sinks right away and I go on tilt on the inside. He raises the minimum and I think over 90% of the time he has at least a 2 andsometimes he will show up with a king. I call in disgust and he flips over 72 osfor the flopped two pair and rivered full house. I keep my emotions in check although I wanted to punch his fucking face in. I realize that although this hand did not work out for me, players like this guy is good for the games and I hope more of them continue to play. Does anybody have any advice on the hand though if I should ever check the river in that spot? Any advice is great thanks :)

Hopefully everyones had a great new years and I wish you all the best in 2011!

New blog

Hello all!

I have finally made the plunge and am now officially part of the cardrunners community!! I am really excited because it is a much needed step in the right direction for me as a poker player. I have been following cardrunners for around 3 years and reading the blogs but have procrastinated forever in joining. This blog will serve two purposes. Get my game to the next level or five in poker and make new friends. My blog will hope to include stuff other than poker content in an attempt to make it interesting.

Poker: I am some what of a stuggling poker player mostly due to bad bankroll management. I have gone broke more times than I can count but if it were easy then everyone would be playing. I have had good success in SNG`s (6-16$ range) with inconsistent results in the 20-30$ range. I have had little success in Mtt`s and no success in Cash games which have actually been the major reason why I have struggled to maintain a BR.

Myself: I am 23 years old living in Vancouver, Canada. I took a break from school this past semester and I am considering in going back to school next semester. I am around half way complete a bachelors degree in business and I would like to one day open up a business. I am very active and I play tons hockey (5-7 times a week). I also like to go out 3-4 times week depending on schedule, with my friends. I love meeting new people and being social, and another thing I am working on right now is getting better with women without having to use prescripted lines/routines from books etc. One of my goals in the future is to travel more and I hope to do that sooner rather than later.

If anyone has questions ask away, and if anyone lives in the area or is traveling in the area shoot me a msg and we can have a drink!

Anyway hope you enjoy my blog and until next time adios!

P.S. Does anyone know how to add photos to the blog. It seems like I could only add photos using the url.
