Good Stuff

Poker is what we are supposed to be here for so i'll start with that. Cash games have been going well for me... I went from a pretty big loser to a small winner. I'm still down a little overall for the trip due to tourneys. Our house is 0/11 in tourneys but we decided we were saving up our run good for the main event. I'm planning on just buying in. My dad still wants to take half my action for some reason. Dahlin wants to play some satellites the next couple days (God bless him). Last year he did satellite in and I sweated him from when there were 50 players left - 40 getting in. It was one of the most tilting experiences of my life and I wasn't even in the tournament. It took 2 hours for the last 10 players to bust with the average stack at the end being around 2 big blinds. The whole area was a zoo with players running from table to table every time there was an all-in. In addition, tables were blatantly colluding with themselves by telling their hole cards. Like I said previously - he loves pain. As for the others in the house, Pagel has finally been playing live after being in hibernation for most of the summer and has done pretty well. Mighty claims to be running like cow with 1 leg and is down a little. Although I'm not sure if a poker table is the type of table he's spent the most time at this summer. Cecil continues to grind full tilt.

We have had a bunch of visitors to the house in the last couple weeks. At one point we had 12 people here. Kopicki was here for 9 days and went out every single night. He must run on batteries because he was only getting 3 hours of sleep every night. He possibly experienced more of Vegas in 9 days than someone whose lived here for a few years. Then there's Jeff who is the biggest winner in the house but has only been here 4 days. The great part about the 4 days is they aren't consecutive. He was here Sunday the 27th - Tues the 29th then flew BACK on Friday and is staying until tomorrow or Monday. I guess when you run like he has at blackjack you want to play it as much as possible. I think he's up around 10k total now... although by tomorrow he could be even the way he bets.

We have been going out a lot including getting bottle service at 2 of the nicer clubs in vegas at Tao and Tryst. Mighty and Cecil were saying that this month has taken at least 10 years off their lives as much as they've been going out. We have a new house tradition that has started when going out. We love the French Bread at Walmart and buy at least 2 loaves per Walmart trip. Whenever we go out to the bar 1 person is in charge of carrying a loaf in the cab and into the casino. We then eat the whole thing before going to the bar. That's living baby.

Some other house tidbits -

The Kardashians is the official tv show of the house. At first I was making fun of them for watching it but it is a great show. Scott is hilarious and is an idol in the house

We have been flipping for a lot of food/alcohol and it seems to be fairly even this summer. We all have paid close to our share unlike last year where Dahlin ran like a Kenyan.

Cecil and Mighty almost got thrown out of a cab on the way home from the strip a few nights ago. The cab driver was trying to screw them and take them a way that has been closed the whole time we've been here. Cecil let him know he wasn't going to take that by screaming, "Turn the meter off cocksucker!" An argument ensued and 2 minutes the cab was pulling over to the side of the road with the doors open ready to throw them out. Luckily this isn't the first time someone has tried to throw Mighty out of a cab and he knew to threaten to call the Las Vegas Cab Commission and get the guy fired if he didn't take them home.

I'm probably playing the main event on Monday so gl me

Update

Blog by : xTheNutsx

I know. I know. I haven't been updating this very much. I haven't had much good news to report so I didn't want to update. I don't have too many good stories... we basically do the same thing everyday: Get up, hang out at the pool/around the house, then either go play poker/go out a couple nights a week.

First, a poker update: Tourneys have been frustrating so far. I'm 0/4 -$8,000 in entry fees. In 3/4 I've made it through almost the entire first day then busted right before the end of day 1. This is the worst because I'd rather go out right away and play cash games than waste 10 hours on it. Cash games have been going better as of late. I was getting dominated as of about a week ago but I'm only down a little bit now.

I have a couple good stories that I can think of right now. Last Wednesday we ended up going to LAX at Luxor and getting bottle service. It was $130 each split 6 ways (the 5 housemates and Dahlin's friend who was visiting). That's not bad at all since it was a $30 cover charge plus drinks are like $10 each everywhere in Vegas so we probably saved money. Anyway, the funny part of the story is Mighty somehow knocked over a group of girls' gray goose bottle. They chased after him (they were larger girls if they caught him they could have ripped him apart) and they reported him to the bouncer. He was lucky we got bottle service because the bouncer let him go because of that. After leaving there at 4am, Adam's friend Roshan and Cecil played blackjack at every casino on the strip until 8am. Cecil must've been his good luck charm because he won $5,000. For the rest of his trip Roshan forced Cecil to go with him whenever blackjack was being played.

Adam was supposed to go home to Minnesota for a friend's wedding yesterday morning. However, he only ended up getting on the plane yesterday afternoon since he missed his flight in the morning. We asked if this was the first time he missed a flight. Dahlin responded, "Well, no. The one time I was there on time but I got so into listening to my music... by the time I came to and looked at the clock my flight had left over an hour ago." hahaha that must've been some good music. Didn't notice all the people around him leaving. Classic Dahlin.

Bombproof Safe

Blog by : xTheNutsx

So we've only been in Vegas for 5 days but it feels like longer. I wanted to update my blog earlier but I've been lazy... and nothing very exciting has happened. We arrived Wednesday afternoon and picked up the rental car. I'm happy with it - it's a Hyundai Elentra which is much nicer than I expected. It must be pretty new also there's only 3,000 miles on it. Pagel, Mighty and I arrived at the house and met up with Dahlin and Cecil who were already there. We all like the house and use the pool and hot tub a lot. After we all said our hello's we went to Walmart to get some food and items for the house. Mighty Dahlin and I decided we needed to buy a safe for the house. We thought it would be cool if someone won a tourney to take 300k in cash and stash all of it in the safe. Of course we decided we needed the best one for $200 that is waterproof, fireproof and bombproof. Dahlin suggested putting the safe at the bottom of the pool since no one would find it (we decided against that). The only problem with the safe is it gets mad if you mess around with it at all (if you twist the handle back and forth after opening it it goes into lockdown mode). Mighty seems to have trouble with this and 5 of the 6 times he's used it he screws it up and we have to reset it which is a pain.

Poker has been going alright i guess. I'm down a little overall. I played the $1500 6 max today and went out around 500th in the 1700 player field 88 to AQ (board KK3JJ bah). I've been playing PLO cash the rest of the time and the games are pretty good. Dahlin is up a good amount in cash games but 0/2 in tourneys. Mighty is down a little playing 2/5 at the rio. Cecil and Pagel have been mostly grinding online. I know Cecil went on tilt the other day and lost a decent amount to a fish.

What we should do is just quit pokier and focus on sports betting. Following some guys on the internet (reddog and indian cowboy) we are all up a decent amount. We need to start getting the word out for our handicapping site - http://chewwithyourmouthclosed.com/ The only disappointment has been Cecil as he is 0-9 with his picks to start the summer. That's really going to hurt his win percentage on the site.

Ok I guess that's it for now. I'll try to update in a few days. We did stop by the Cardrunners party last Thursday to hang out with those guys. They weren't happy that Ray Allen wasn't scoring as the guys all living in the main cardrunners house bet his over 15.5 points. We went to O'sheas afterward which we all liked. It's like a casino for college kids. They have a bunch of beer pong tables in the back which we took advantage of and I suspect we'll make it back there a couple more times this summer. On Thursdays they have a qualifier for the World Series Of Beer Pong that Mighty and Dahlin want to try to qualify for. Some friends from Ship are coming on Wednesday so I might have some good stories with them here. I saw at the Bellagio sportsbook the over under for Dezell's sleep hours was 8.5 for the whole trip (he's here 4 nights)

Meet the cast

Blog by : xTheNutsx
0

Well, we're going back to vegas in about 3 weeks. Everyone is excited and we added 2 new characters to our group. I decided to introduce everyone... listing their best asset and their biggest leak. I put them in alphabetical order (by what i call them not actual name).

Cecil:

Biggest Strength: Strong heads up player. Has been known to run off 9/10 winning sessions regularly. Also, likes to play smash brothers for wii with me (even though he can't beat me)

Biggest Weakness: Tilt. The problem is on the 1 session out of 10 that he loses he can easily wipe out the winnings he had in 9 winning sessions. If a bad player is getting lucky against him he might lose 10 buy ins against him and a laptop (that he smashed at the conclusion of it)

cecil - I had a better pic of cecil here (the one that's in my profile pic but i couldn't get it to work)

Dahlin:

Biggest Strength: Sporcle, Pool, Beer pong and any game we could think of. Last year me and Pagel went out thinking we would dominate Dahlin in stuff like this. And we got crushed in everything. At 1 point we were bouncing ping pong balls across the kitchen into a small bucket trying to say we were better than Dahlin at something. We played to 5 and he shut us out. At least we learned not to bet against him for money.

Biggest Weakness: Satelites and small WSOP events. I'm not sure that this is a weakness because i'm sure he is very +ev in the field. However, trying to get through 2,000 terrible players when the structure isn't very good (meaning the good players don't have that much of an edge) is just so painful. I guess I could add that to his strengths- high tolerance for pain.

dahlin

Mighty:

Biggest Strength: Entertainment (having a good time). Mighty always wants to go out and have fun... which leads me to...

Biggest Weakness: Entertainment (having a good time). This reminds me of The Office. Where Dwight is in a job interview and they ask him about his biggest strengths and weaknesses. Both of them are the same- he works too hard. For Mighty having a good time is also his biggest weakness because it leads to him doing things like playing blackjack, roulette and spending too much money at the bar. He is definitely having a good time doing these things but they're not good for his bankroll.

mighty

Pagel:

Biggest Strength: Discipline. This reminds me when Pagel, Mighty and I were in Atlantic City. We were discussing moving to Atlantic City. I asked them, what 1 word is the most important thing if we would move to AC? Mighty answered, "Heart!" I laughed. Pagel immediately said - Discipline. There can be times when he can lose a little bit of his discipline...

Biggest Weakness: Going to casinos/bars with Mighty. Mighty is a bad influence on Pagel when going out. I remember the one night of them staying out all night... Pagel finally gets back to the house when it's light out. He said he opened his wallet to pay the taxi driver expecting there to be $100s in it. He ended up having to tell the taxi driver to wait so he could go inside to get money to pay him.

pagel

I had it so the images were on the page instead of having to click it and it looked much better... but then when I put it up the pics didn't work.

I was thinking about doing the people who are going to visit this summer too. But that seems like too much work as of now.

I'll try to start updating this more once we get to Vegas in the 3 weeks

And that's a wrap

Blog by : xTheNutsx

Unfortunently I busted out of the main event a few hours ago. The hand I went out on blinds 250/500 w/ 50 ante. Loose player UTG opens to 1250 and a solid player calls in mid position. Comes around to me in the big blind I look down at one king... two kings!! "Let's get some in there," I announce and make it 4250 (have a little over 15k to start the hand). He thinks for awhile and makes a little over a min reraise, next player folds and I basically insta shove knowing he's committed. He calls with AQo and I'm feeling pretty good... that is until the ace comes on the flop and sends me home. Sucks obviously but what can you do. I headed over to Bellagio and did win about 30% of my main event buyin back which is nice. The good thing about busting out is now I can take my scheduled flight home tomorrow rather than have to cancel and find a hotel. I mean I definitely would've made the sacrifice to be able to play for millions but I guess it wasn't meant to be this year.

Overall it was a good summer with a good bunch of guys and a lot of fun. It's back to PA and going to AC (Borgata) a lot. I doubt i'll update this blog too often but maybe I'll talk about some AC trips and how poker is going.

Until next time whenever it may be,
Fegan

Short stacked going into Main Event Day 2

Blog by : xTheNutsx
0

Played the main event yesterday... had an okay table but not great. Not one player was knocked out of my table the entire day which I think is pretty rare even for the main event where they give you a lot of chips. Didn't get too many hands and a few good hands I got lost to better hands (jacks to kings) and the 2 sets I had didn't get paid. Ran one bluff where I knew the guy was weak but he hit runner runner 2 pair after having 7 high on the flop bah. I have 16,700 going into day 2 which is still like 30 big blinds so I'm not too bad off. Hopefully I'll have a good rush of cards at the right time and get some chips.

"Tough poker games but easy table games"

Blog by : xTheNutsx
0

That was Mighty's motto while being here. He somehow managed to get dominated playing poker where he's supposed to win and won almost every time playing blackjack/roulette where he's supposed to lose. I just dropped him off at the airport so the women and children are now a little bit safer around vegas. We went out a couple times in the last week... well, at least tried to. I think it was Thursday of last week - Mighty was playing 5/10 at the Rio and claimed there was some rich guy who wanted to take him and the rest of us to a nightclub at Palms. He said we would get in for free and have bottle service the whole night. I didn't really believe it but we had nothing else to do so we went around midnight. We get there and much to my surprise we are already on the VIP list and we are about to get in right away. This is until he asks for our IDs and Mighty didn't have his because he decided to leave his wallet at home so he didn't spend too much money. As Pagel would say, "I remember my first time in vegas." So we messed around there for a little then just decided to come back home. We thought about taking a cab home then going back but it was already about 1am.

As far as poker goes I've been playing 5/5/10 PLO and 5/10 no limit. These games are much better (the players are much worse) than the 10/20 game and I've been doing pretty well. I wasn't really planning on playing the main event because it would wipe out the majority of my profits for the trip but my dad said he would go 50/50 with me so now I'm probably going to play it. Adam wants to play some satelites and I'll probably join him to try to win a seat cheaply.

Another rule I've learned out here is never play a "Sota" boy in anything for money. The Sota boys are the nickname Pagel dubbed for Adam and his friends being from Minnesota. Somehow they are incredible at everything. We complain that they must start a vigirous training program at age 3 like they do in some countries for the military. Adam dominates us at everything from pool to sporcle.com (trivia site) to beer pong. Mighty learned this lesson the hard way when he challenged Adam to beer pong matches for money and ended up with his wallet $200 lighter.

I'm only here for about another week unless I make a run in the main event... run good one time!

Update, Tony G

Blog by : xTheNutsx
0

I've been playing as much poker as I can take over the last week or so. It's been going okay, but not as well as I hoped. Saturday I played the $1500 wsop event and was out in the first half hour 66 vs AA on a A65 flop. Then I immediately drove over to Bellagio and got into one of the best 10/20 games I've ever been in. One guy was playing basically every hand and playing terribly. There were also about 3 other weak players in the game most of the day. Of course I managed to lose about 4k in the game. The 3 big pots I played 2 I lost as a huge favorite and the other the terrible player had the 1 hand he could possibly have to beat me. It's fairly disappointing but if I could play in games like that all trip I'm sure I would be a huge winner. Last night I played a 5/5 PLO game at the rio where the average pot was probably bigger than the 10/20 no limit games I've been playing. The game was really good and I think I'll play a lot more PLO on the trip. Overall I'm up a decent amount but after taking out all the expenses - house, car, plane ticket, food, going out I'm only up a little bit.

Tony G has become our houses favorite poker player. We have watched these 2 videos probably 10 times each since we've been here.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EprGnEjm2oE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToOoJ5oAqbc&feature=related

Whenever we have a bad session and are tilting, we watch these videos to cheer us up. Pagel, Adam and I were considering going out Saturday night, but we ended up deciding if we want to go out anymore we have to do it right. As Tony G says - If you want to do this, let's do this properly. Unfortunently in Vegas that means spending at least a few hundred dollars. None of us are doing that great so we decided not to. If I'm not winning a lot playing poker I'm really against wasting money. I mean if it was in Shippensburg where the most you can possibly spend would be about $50 if you go all out that would be different. But here you can probably end up doing dumb things and spending close to $1000 then I would wake up the next morning pissed off about it. Speaking of throwing money away Mighty is coming out on Wednesday and staying for about a week I believe. Pagel and I set the over under on him going busto at 2 days. That means Pagel and I not only have to keep track of ourselves but we also have to make sure Mighty stays away from the blackjack tables.

$2500 PLO tourney/Vegas Nightlife

Blog by : xTheNutsx
0

Well I ended up getting 22nd in the $2500 PLO tourney for about $7600. I lost a big pot where I had AA52 with a suit against QJT8 double suited allin preflop which crippled me. I was a small favorite in the hand but it was completely standard on both our parts. It's a little disappointing to play that long and not make the final table and have a chance for some serious money but I was happy with the way that I played.

I played with Hellmuth for awhile on day 1 and Juanda all of day 2. Hellmuth was being, well, Hellmuth and talked about how great he is despite seeming to be pretty bad. He kept yelling at all the dealers for not "releasing the deck" when cutting it. I had no idea what he was talking about but I guess it's a rule that when the dealers are cutting the cards they are supposed to take their hands away for a second in the middle of the cut. He was saying that he always seemed to get coolered when the dealers didn't do it correctly... lol. The only thing I said to him was when he was talking about his bracelets I commented that Ivey is catching up to him. Hellmuth responded that he still has 4 to go.

I like Juanda a lot... he's talkative, doesn't have a big ego like Hellmuth and is pretty funny. The one guy at the table was complaining about how he hates full tilt and always loses his money on their site. Juanda then raised the next pot and said he had a bad hand but the guy has him steaming (he's a full tilt pro). Also right before we got into the money he raised a pot and everyone folded. He then showed something like AAT7 double suited and goes - you guys know I'm not coming into any pots on the bubble without the nuts.

Nider, Dezell and his friend Tehan came to visit Thursday - Sunday. Dezell and Nider stayed at our place while Tehan had a room at Harrah's. Going out in Vegas is unreal. We tried to go to Tao Friday night... the bouncer tells us we either need to have girls with us or buy bottle service. Then 2 minutes later a different guy comes up to us and tells us he can get us in if we each give him $80. It's all just a big scam trying to screw you out of more money. I wonder if the bouncers split it between themselves or if the casino actually tells them to do stuff like that to make more money. We were annoyed with the situation and decided to go elsewhere. The places we ended up going the time they were here (they insisted on going out every night) were Voodoo Lounge at the Rio, Blush at Wynn, and something Court at Harrah's. Voodoo Lounge is at the top of the hotel and you can go outside onto the roof. There's a great view of the city at night. Blush was a cool place to hang out and was really nice like everything is at Wynn. The place at Harrah's was my favorite though. Pagel, Mighty and I have been saying whenever we go to Borgata in AC that they should plant hot girls at the tables to make guys want to play more. This place seemed to steal our idea. I don't actually think they were planted but there did seem to be a good looking girl playing at most tables. They had blackjack tables inside the bar which was really cool so Tehan and I immediately started playing. We ended up running pretty well and each won like $100. The money you can spend going out in Vegas is ridiculous. You spend $50 on taxis back and forth and $10 a drink everywhere. Also Dezell is unreal he got here Wed. night and slept about 3 hours every night for 4 nights. Somehow he stayed fired up the whole time and never got tired.

Well that's it for now it's back to grinding cash games as much as I can and probably playing a couple more tournaments,
Fegan
