What a day...

Blog by : xgamer

Today is really not my day! I stopped playing after putting 2500 hands in and experiencing numerous suckouts and coolers. It started with getting coolered for a ~440 BB pot with boat over boat and after winning 2 BIs back I quickly dropped 6 BIs because I got 2-outered consecutively. Then more standard stuff like playing against a 65/0 fish that flops trips when I got aces, flipping with shortstacks that always got a hand and so on... That's poker.

This is my graph of today's play:

Overall I really run like shit at 100NL 6max over the last ~20k hands, i.e. about 17 buyins below equity. Here is my corresponding EV graph:

The big 440 BB pot:

As all the bad beats are not really interesting to see I won't insert them here. Basically I got 2-outered at least 5 times after getting all the money in which really sucks but you can only put the money in good and not change the outcome of the cards - so whatever...

Another interesting hand is where I ran a triple barrel bluff on a low board and got called down by a tightish player with a low pocket pair which is exactly the type of hand I put him on. I don't really understand his play as the line I took is my standard value line with overpairs and I have him beat like 80%+ of the time here. So I really like him calling down in fact although it was at the wrong time today.

Sick start of April

Blog by : xgamer
0

April started out genuinely nice for me with a win for a bit over 800$ (55BB/100, 190$ hourly) in just 1100 hands. That's the best start of a month so far for me and makes me love variance for the moment. It comes especially at the right time as I just started jumping back into 200NL yesterday and gives me a solid bankroll of 25 buyins for the moment. Even better is that most of the money always went in when my opponent was drawing dead/nearly dead and I wasn't really flipping once. Here's the graph so far:

Here is my PokerEV graph of March for the sake of completion:

My biggest losing hand so far has been the following one where I turned my KK into a bluff-catcher against a short stack. The reasoning behind this is that I already won a large portion of villain's stacked, isolated him regularly and thought he was playing back at me a decent amount of the time. I could have bet/folded but I think that this line maximizes my EV in the given situation:

89 just got there but as villain was playing his made hands very strongly and called with his draws I bet out once again. His call made it even more likely that he was still drawing to a flush.

Now the straight hit and I'm snap-calling as he has backdoor hearts like never after calling the last two streets. Actually I'd have called his overshove probably without making a straight as well as long as not another overcards/diamond falls because he liked to bluff his missed draws in previous hands and played his hand face up for me. Furthermore he was the type of player that value-bet smaller and it was just crystal-clear that he simply wanted me to fold here.

In the next hand I'm not quite sure if I may have misplayed it but I think my line was reasonable as the opponent was very passive, not too loose and it was a limped around pot. I'm certainly taking a more aggressive stance here if it would be raised preflop.

I decided not to isolate preflop here OOP as I have done it several times in a row to snikende, he was surely not folding and probably would play back it me post and 33 is not easy to play when you flop no set postflop.

FLOP:

Pot: $6

BET Mr19870305 ($6)
CALL xgamer1 ($6)
FOLD snikende

As Mrxxx was really passive over the whole session I figure that a call is best here as he may fire with all sorts of 3x/5x/6x, naked fours and overpairs but by raising I narrow it down to straights, sets and two pair hands.

TURN:

Pot: $18

BET Mr19870305 ($18)
CALL xgamer1 ($18)

His very strong lead on the turn removes one pair hands and naked fours from his range in my eyes. I continue with calling to represent a 4 or some weakish pair now myself. I don't like raising too much as he was no showdown monkey and most likely folds two pairs and shoves straights and sets.

RIVER:

Pot: $54

BET Mr19870305 ($35)
RAISE xgamer1 ($115)
FOLD Mr19870305
UNCALLED xgamer1 ($80)
MUCK xgamer1

The river comes perfect and as all his straights are behind my hand now I raise it up by 80$ for value. As I played my hand like a weakish pair or a 4 over the last two streets I expect him to call with 77-TT and made straights as the draw missed. Unfortunately all his two pair hands have been counterfeited now and he is folding them pretty much all the time.

xgamer1 collected $121 from main pot

SUMMARY:
Total pot: $124 Rake: $3

Final Board:

Seat 1: Pierced_Aces didnt bet folded - Net Gain/Loss: ($0)
Seat 2: Ryanrizice didnt bet folded - Net Gain/Loss: ($0)
Seat 4: snikende button folded on the Flop - Net Gain/Loss: ($-2)
Seat 5: Mr19870305 small blind folded on the River - Net Gain/Loss: ($-61)
Seat 6: xgamer1 big blind collected 121, mucked - Net Gain/Loss: ($60)

I'm still not too sure whether I missed out on value by not raising on the flop pr the turn. I know that I wouldn't go broke with two-pair on this flop in a limped pot against decent opponents and so my line may have maximized the value. The best plan seems to isolate with pocket pairs preflop regardless of my image to get rid of these kind of situations - lol.

CHECK Sp0rkach0ne
BET Giuahh ($3)
RAISE xgamer1 ($12)
CALL Sp0rkach0ne ($12)
FOLD Giuahh

Flop comes perfect and I planned to check/call Spor as the board was so dry but as Giuahh led out small it just cried for a check/raise. Anyway I had to get money in before the river which would be problematic after calling 3$ on the flop. As Spor called I pretty much had to put him on a K9+/KK+/22 as he cannot really expect me to c/r this flop with underpairs most of the time. He probably might peel one with TT-QQ but it seems rather unlikely.

TURN:

Pot: $38.5

BET xgamer1 ($27)
RAISE Sp0rkach0ne ($84.50)
CALL xgamer1 ($57.50)

The 9 is a very nice turn as it reduces my changes of having 99 drastically and now pretty much only 22 is beating AK/KQ assuming that I don't flat pre with K9/AK. So I opt out to lead for 2/3 pot which is pretty natural after check/raising the flop anyway. He is a friendly guy and shoves - I instacall and the pot gets shipped.

Psycherdad's Wedding and Father's day.

Blog by : xgamer
0

I had a very light poker weekend and it was much needed. I was the best man at my old high school friend's wedding. I don't get too see him much anymore because he lives up in Alaska, so it was good to see him.

Even better for me was the vacation. My parents were friends of his family so they were there as well. You know what that means? Babysitters. It was great to spend some alone time with my fiance and we got to reconnect. I even re-proposed to her. We don't have a date set yet because she wants to wait until we have enough money to have a bigger wedding and my school loans keep coming. But our son will be two in less than two weeks and I couldn't see myself with anyone else.

We drove home from our hotel this morning. Only a two hour drive and my fiance and son slept most of the time allowing me to pandora up some jack johnson and bob marley. We had ribs, rice and corn for dinner.

I played about 1k hands at 1/2 nl rush over the weekend and was up less than 1/4 a buyin. I felt pretty good about my play including an AA fold to a checkraise on the 8845 turn by a passive regular. That's the kind of hand I normally tend to brain freeze on.

Happily folding overpairs,
The Psycherdad

Switching it up

Blog by : xgamer

Over the last week I mainly returned to playing 4 tables of 6max 100 NL and have done very well so far. My bankroll is back up at 4400$ and I'll start taking shots at 200 NL again very soon. The plan is to make 2 more buyins or so which hopefully happens tomorrow and jump back into my regular game with 23 buyins for a 5 buyin shot. Before that happens I'll post some interesting HH's from the 10k hands that I have played since my last entry.

Grinding 100NL FR

Blog by : xgamer
0

Due to a lot of expenses over the last few months I had to cashout a substantial amount of my bankroll which only left me with enough cash to play NL100 regularly. So I'm currently 9-tabling 100NL full ring since the beginning of the month with a nice hourly of ~70$ to get rolled for NL200 ASAP. It's really a nice change of pace to play full ring again as the players are significantly worse than short-handed and there's not really too much to think about as most opponents only consider their cards.

Currently I'm at ~3600$ and I'll probably start taking shots at NL200 again when I'm up at 4500$-5000$ which hopefully shouldn't take too long at all. If I find some time I'll post interesting hands that come up over the next few weeks although there don't really come up too many interesting spots when 9-tabling as the main objective is to extract value from bad players and stay out of tough spots as the time to think about marginal situations is extremely limited.

First Entry

Blog by : xgamer
0

I decided to start blogging my poker results from now on and discuss the most interesting hands that come up during play as it allows myself to review important hands. Currently I am in the process of rebuilding my roll as I moved 4k into my custody account which leaves me with another 4k for playing 200NL. The reason for that was that I felt I did not play my A-game and thus did not want to move up to 400NL yet.

Over the last weeks I have mainly played 100NL (winning 1k over some thousand hands) as I played 200NL on winner's tilt over a month or so where I burnt 1k from about 1.5k I have won after my step-up from 100NL. Generally I would have no problem with that but I made some really stupid calls and over-aggressive shoves that were really bad in retrospective. This led me to play some hands at 100NL to retool my game which helped me to get back to my overall pretty solid game (IMO ).

Probably I will apply an aggressive bankroll management strategy as I tend to play my best game only when the money really means something to me, i.e. 200NL+ atm. So my main plan is to move up with 20 buy-ins and drop down when getting below 15 buy-ins until reaching 400NL for now. As Party just offered me a 100$ bonus and the players are for the most part quite weak there I will be playing mainly there instead of Stars for the next week or so which should be a nice change.

Unfortunately I feel a bit fucked up because I only slept 4 hours (5am now - ugh ) after our auxiliary fire brigade's social evening tonight where I drank a few quickies too much... but after drinking a coffee and taking an aspirine things are only getting better . Nevertheless the event was very entertaining and I am anxious about playing some poker after a few days break. Expect me to post some HH's and results over the following days.
