For those of you who are sports fans, you'll remember back in the day, maybe 8-10 years ago when football games didn't have yellow lines, and didn't have the little box that showed the score. They would just periodically show you the score before/after commercial breaks. Same w/ baseball and basketball. I think we can go a step further and add another "yellow line" or improve some aspect of how the score/stats are displayed on tv. Any ideas what we can add?

Baseball absolutely needs instant replay. I hate saying this, because games are already 3hrs.+, However, there are lots of terrible calls that need to be reverse,ie. stealing, home plate confrontations, Holliday for Rockies when he never touched the base! Also, what's up with only 2 challenges allowed in NFL, even if your right? If your challenges are right on, and reversed, they should be unlimited. Isn't the coaches fault when the officials are screwing up, especially in away games when they aren't showing the replays which might be in question. Just my 2 cents.

I think the biggest concern is how much it slows down the game. I think for starters, they should have instant replay in baseball for at the very least, foul/fair HR's. My post, though, is more about what we can add f/ a tv/graphical stanpoint to improve the viewer's experience.

I think that the stats would obv be sports specific, but I guess I'd like to see some basic stats constantly displayed on the screen. For basketball maybe you could show the teams FG% and 3PFG%, that way you can tell if the teams shooting unbelievably hot or cold. I think that this would be pretty interesting to see in the the NCAA tournament where cinderella teams upset ranked schools just by shooting a ton of threes and making more than usual.

For football, maybe show the % by downs of making a 1st down. I know they already show this stat from time to time, but it's not always up there. Plus they usually don't show how often a team gets a 1st down on the 1st or 2nd down. It's almost always only the 3rd.

For baseball I think the standard one is obv the batting %. Though, I think an interesting one to see is the % that the hitter will hit a homerun given that he is not walked. On the flipside, for pitchers, the % that they will give a homerun. Maybe this is already a standard baseball stat, as I don't know too much about baseball stats. I really think that this would be pretty interesting to see.

However, I think that the best way to improve what stats and whatnot to display would be to somehow develop a PA HUD type system for sports games. That way individuals can pick and choose what stats they want to see. That would actually be pretty sweet.

I think a lot of the stats you mention are too situational and not the type of stuff that any network wants displayed on tv 100% of the time. But your idea about the PA HUD system is kinda cool.

yea, you're right. They're all too situational. I guess the PA hud system would take care of all that, except for the fact the it would just be extremely hard to implement. I can't really think of any other stats that would greatly enhance the viewing experience. I used to play a lot of sports games, and sometimes I'd really like them to show football games live in the sky camera view. The camera angle takes the Madden point of view and as the viewer you'd be able to see the entire field and watch the plays develop. It might make the viewer more interested in the game, because that way you can scream at the QB if he misses a person who's obviously open. Though, I don't know the practicality of showing the game in that view.

But with the advance in camera technology and stuff, I really think that they should be rethinking the standards of how they show the games.

They could have the teams % chance of winning always on the screen. ESPN's gamecast shows that %, and it would be nice to see how a basehit or homerun or even strike affected the team's chance of winning the game.
