Poker and Drinking, Australian style

Blog by : vipex

Long time no blog, not that many people would follow this anyway. However for the sake of prosperity ill do a little recap.

So i wen on a massive downer after my last posts, something like 3/4 of bankroll. Combination of playing like garbage and playing like shit, you know the usual. So anyway since then i have actually started trying hard to be good, and who would have thought I have started winning again, even more the before my big loss. So that has made me happy. If it wasnt for the constraints uni has been putting on my time id be getting in more hands, but the holidays are around the corner so that will come.

But the is a sad side to this blog. I wont bore you with the details, because in actual fact they are quite mundane. So I decided to play at the local casino tonight, there is a $5-$5 game that plays with a 200-500 buyin. I get there at about 1am because it is so hard to get a game an im hoping to win some money of ppl that have been losing all night. i get a seat at about 130 after watching some hands, and villian lose about 3000 in 25mins, one time going all in blind in a 4K pot. I buy in for 400 (i know not a full stack, but im not that rich), work it up to 700 when i have my AJ vs villans (yes same one) 57 on JJ7xx. he goes on to win a few suck outs and then this hand occurs. he raise to 50 (very large) i make it 150 with KK, he makes it 250 i shove for 775 and he calls with.....A9o, flops an ace and thats all she wrote. Pretty devestated to lose a 1500 pot, especially when thats more than i have online. To my credit i just walekd away, and even now i just a bit sad, but not angry. All i need now is to earn enough money to play there again, but as a student who works a "real" job to pay the rent and bills it could take a while.

But yeah, cant wait til exams are over and we can play the best drinking game in the world, one that 2 friends invented. Ill tell you all the rules in a future blog, but just to let everyone know the damage, last time we played 6 people went through 3 bottles of vodka in 15 mins!! Gotta love it.

Ok, Im going to keep with one short, partly because I dont have much to say and partly because Im pretty sure no one reads this anyway (whatever this is mostly for me anyway).
Dropped $13, but was happy with my play, just lost a few all in pots with the best of it, but it hapens and I wont retell those stories because no one likes hearing them anyway.

I will try and get some good volume in, but because of uni semester ending soon and a few assessments I guess we will see how that goes. One thing is for sure, I definatly plan to lay heaps over the winter break (summer for you northern people).

Later

state of mind and recovery

Blog by : vipex

In case anyone has not read Kaizan latest blog, it mentions getting a study group of sorts organised to help each other progress as poker players. I sent him a message and got a reply. Basically Im not sure if I meet the Hand requirements and Im not sure how time differences will work out but I am super interested in this idea. Basically, along with the benefits of being able t talk hands with other people on a regular basis I think it will also help with what I believe is my biggest problem, but ill get to that soon.

So after the disasterus ew days that happened during the week I put in quite a few hands today (sorry i dont have numbers, read old blogs for explanation) and managed to win back a ittle over $40. It was an unusual session, where i lost a buyin straight off the bat when i flopped 2 pair and the board ran out another pair so somenes AA to the lot, and a straight losing when the board paired on river to someones full house, but i did with KKvs AK aipf for a stack. I thin the biggest thing was my concentration was up and I was focussing on tables more and making more agressive plays that allowed me to build up a nice image.

and so just as I alluded to then I think concentration and focus is my biggest weakness in poker. The last few months have started off the same, me putting in a nice few winnings days/week, getting complacent losing a ton in a short period of time and then not feeling like playing for the rest of the month. I honestly believe that when I am playing my best I have the ability to climb up the stakes and make poker a more successful endvor/hobby, but at the moment its like im stuck in first neutral and going nowhere. That is why I think being a member of some group will help, it will make me accountable for my play to people other than myself, which is obv not ideal, but Im hoping it will be a kick start to me being able to play my best more often.

This blog ended up being a bit long so I will leave yu with a funny hand. Basically I guess word must have gotten out about how bad my last few days were and so he played his hand like this. Whatevs im happy to ship the big pot.

Getting cought in the rush

Blog by : vipex

Life has been fairly uneventful since the last blog...oh except for 2 big loosing days of poker. After running good and playing well I managed to drop $114, so back to 10nl for me, yay, the cycle continues. As it is very late I wont go into to many details but I definatly think something I need to work on is just letting go of hands and not getting cought up in what other people actually had. I dont to see what they have everytime so just fold...just fold.

Haha this kinda sounds like a morbid post, guess I just a little bit life tilted, but this weekend should be fun and Im sure to be back to my winning ways on monday. Later all

Sick

Blog by : vipex

Have been sick as a dog last 3 days. It started when we decided to play kings (thats a drinking game for ppl who dont know) on a monday night when I already wasnt feeling 100%. We added our own rules, one of which was remve an item of clothing when you drew a 7, and the nakedness stayed into the next round. So long story short we all ended up in nothing but our underwear when its like 4C (damn cold for ppl who dont use celsius) and too drunk to care, I managed to get to home at like 230am (only after throwing wet tissues on the roof of living room, but in my defense someone who lived thee was doing the same).

..and so for he last 2 days i have not been to class and just trying to get better.

I did however play some poker today. It was a realy swingy session and I wasnt playing my best, as well as having to make lots of folds that were hard. Something I did notice was that I lost a lot of medium sized pots, where I held top pair (or something equivilant) in position and checked down on the river almost every single time, losing like 80% of pots to 2 pair/flush ect. So this has lead me to think 2 things:
1). I am a fantastic hand reader and saved lots of money (not likely)
2). I am being results oriented and in actual fact missed out on what would normally be a few value bets (not on all hands but some).

In actual fact I think its a bit of both, but change the fantastic to reasonable hand reader. I think I need to get better at profiling my opponents and judging how good/how they think ect. Which is hard without a HUD, but I realy dont want to install PT3 on my laptop because its mostly ment to be for uni work, and when my other computer is fixed that is what it wll go back to.

After saying all this I did actually manage to book a winning session, but in spectaclar fashion. I started off by loosing a fair amount (about 2-3 buyins) and had just managed to scrape it back to about even and then this hand came up:

http://www.pokerhand.org/?4197918
This player had just sat down, but i did notice that he was 10 tabling so I need to give him credit for being a decent reg. Pre flop is standard, and I like my cebt on the flop because too often I think he will check behind for pot control with AQ and KK QQ and I am looking to get it all in. The turn is the most interesting part. I had actually typed out a bet of $8.5 but changed my mind for a few reasons. I figured if he had AQ/JJ/AA the money is going in anyway but if he has KK/QQ he will most likely fold (I was putting him on a strong range, but still liked my hand enough) so i elected to make a smal turn bet, hoping to look weak and cfuse KK/QQ to just jam over the top because they didnt know what else to do. So when he jammed I was patting myself on the back only to see AA...lol. But I run good so i spike my straight for a 200bb pot.

overall i payed 700 hands and won $21.89 playing both 25nl and 10nl. All things considered Im pretty happy wth that, afterall considering my start I was happy to come out ahead.

My main goal now is to build up a decent roll so I can play just 25nl. good luck me

Another sesh

Blog by : vipex

Played another session today and ran into another carrunners member, Kaizzan. Had the honour of him on my left, but since i was so card dead didnt manage to play a hand against him.

My image was so tight that i managed to get away with this hand http://www.pokerhand.org/?4186103
Its not that interesting, but the only fun one that came up while Kaizzan was at the table.

On other tables however it was a realy swingy session, managed to win 2 buyins at 25nl tables, only to flop 2pair against oesd that got there and then this beauty http://www.pokerhand.org/?4186106
If anyone has feedbak on this hand I would love to hear it, but im not to sure how differently i can play it. I guess comments about the river would be interesting since i decided to call his bet rather that push in the last of my stack. But since i have 2 of the aces what is calling the rest on the river that I can actually beat...anyway i wasnt to bummed.

So as I will have to keep results somewhere and my faith in technology is a little shaken (read previous blog) ill keep posting how things are going here

Today I played 611 hands 4 tablng (2 tables of 25nl and 2 tables of 10nl), and won a total of 19.34. Not sure how much came from each level but have a feeling it was about even, not that it realy matters.

Computer is broken and poker

Blog by : vipex
0

So my computer wont boot up, it seeems that my harddrive has decide to break which took a friend and I about 45mins to confirm. Wil have to wait til Monday to call the people that built it for me, and it will most likely take weeks to be resolved (worse thing is its only 6 months old).

So as a result I am forced to use my old laptop, which i reformatted, hooked up to my 22".

I did play my first session of the month and it was very successful. When playing my usual 4 tables I played 2x 25NL tables and 2x 10NL tables. I think this is how i will do things until I am full rolled to 25NL unless of course i go on a massive downer. My new(old) computer setup also means that i dont have poker tracker to keep tabs of my results. So by combining the statistics feature of Full tilt and my great memory (lol) this is how it went. I cant garuntee 100% accuracy but until i get my computer fixed this is how i will keep track of my results and post them in my blog so as to keep them safe (and public).

10NL:
5.66
25.24
For a total win of 30.90

25NL:
(8.25)
32.43
For a total win of 24.18

I dont know how many hands of each level i played but it was 364 hands total.

I obv got dealt a few good hands, but I was definatly happy with some of the folds i made, and happier with my preflop game, avoiding some bad spots while still keeping up the aggression and looking like a maniac.

Numero Uno

Blog by : vipex

What better time to start a blog that the first day of a brand new month?

I am hoping this blog will serve two main purposes. Firstly to help me set goals and be more accountable for my poker playing, and secondly (and probably more importantly) to keep a record of my life, something that I can look back on and findly remember (very romantic i know, lol)

I essentially got convinced to do this last night when my friends and I were sitting around before heading out and trying to remember some of the more epic nights that we have had over the last 2 years at University, and coincidently enough were finding it difficult. With any luck this will eliminate that.

So just to get the foundation out of the way: I am 20 years old; live in Canberra, Australia; study at ANU; I play microstakes but hope to change that soon. I have been playing 10nl fr a little while now and almost have a roll to take shots at 25nl. So my May goal will be to be playing 25nl by the end of this month. But because there are already a ton of Micro blogs on this website ill refrain from making that the main topics of any entry.

Dont realy want to make this a long entry, so as a final thought ill give a 1 line recap of what was an average night last night: I lost my keys....joy
