27-page Preview of my Book: Building a Bankroll

Lee and I have been working very hard on my upcoming book and I'm happy to share a preview with you guys:

The whole experience of writing has been really interesting. First of all, there is a lot of thinking about why things are the way they are, writing it down, thinking some more, and scrapping what you had for something else. It's a very non-linear process. Sort of reminded me of the "What success looks like" cartoon which I so expertly modified:

I really would love to get some feedback on the product from you guys. My main motivation for doing it is to create book which has all the tools a beginning player needs to start on the path of success at poker. I feel like I'm in a unique position to reflect on what those skills are and have tried to articluate that. That said, the feedback I get from readers is critical on every level - content, website, etc.

I want to know what you like, what you dislike, and what you wish the perfect beginner's guide would have. This one is based on my 2011 experience (pre Black Friday of course) so all the examples are Full Ring, but the concepts apply very well to 6-max as well.

I'm excited to be so close to having the books ready for publication and shipment. Our tentative date for doing it is late January!

page 106 in the preview "He flips over QdJc and wins the $2.95 pot." Shouldn't we win the $2.95 pot with KQ on AQ872 v QJ?

Good stuff as always Verneer. I hope legislation heats up here in the US so I can justify spending more money than I already do on poker education. Your videos here on cardrunners are always must watch for me.

I already see that you still have to do your "final/final" read through but sometimes it is hard to edit your own stuff. Page 110 (25 of the preview) you are missing an "I"

Page 20, example 1. Villain has 20/8 and raises from MP1. In "do you likely have the best hand" his range is wrong. As he raises only 8% and given his position, it leaves us with way shorter range rather than one you wrote. E.g. ATs+, KQs, 88+. So we have the best hand vs his Ax KQ. We are likely to get action from 88 99 and we are far behind JJ+. Thus I disagree with your calling suggestion, as raising here is better - we protect our hand vs any broadway card on the turn. If he calls us we are very likely behind and could fold if he fires turn or c-c to showdown versus lower pairs (villain never bets his 88 99 unless he hits a set). If we just call here we have no idea where we stand in the hand and might fold the best hand if he double barrels on a scary turn or blank with his premiums. He might have only 25% equity with AK, but there are 16 broadway cards which we afraid of, so that makes 34% on the turn, as any of those would be great for second barrel even if he missed.

I just read the sample, and as expected, it is very well done. What I found interesting, was that as I read, I could hear your voice, which I know from the videos.

I will re-read with more attention to edits etc.

Hi there. I have enjoyed your writing in the past and this seems okay. My only comment is that I wish there was less dependency on HUD stats as this will be more relevant tolive players as well, and Im one who feels they should be outlawed, I realize im just one individual. But it could be a factor in future online games as well if regulation is stepped up. Just my 2 cents. good luck
