It's been a while...

Well it has been ages since my last blog entry.....I was busy finishing up school and then I left for the World Series about 2 and a half weeks after school ended. I got here May 30th and I'm staying until June 30th, since I have to go home to take my Dental Admissions Test. I have been busy since I got out here entertaining guests, playing poker, as well as studying for my test. As for the poker part of the trip, it couldn't be going much worse. I played event 2 in day 1b on that Sunday. I got into town on that Friday with one of my friends and woke up that Saturday and went and played 10/20 NL at the Bellagio. I ran into KK with my QQ AIPF and got busted for 2k. Then, I ate some Sbarro pizza from the downstairs food part of Bally's and ended up getting food poisoning. So for the rest of the night I was puking, etc. I woke up Sunday feeling a little better and decided to try and play in the event. It was awful...it felt as if I had a fever and the chills as well as feeling like I was going to puke all over the table. Phil "OMGclayaiken" was at my table to begin with and I built up about a 5k stack after the first 2 levels (started with 3k). After this, I totally lost my focus and was gone about midway through the third level. I moved into the house later that day and the place is SICK. I love it and it's just me staying here which is even better. I've been running really really bad live and somewhat bad online. I came out here with 13k in cash to buy into two events and then to play some cash games and just try to grind it up for the first week or two. Well, it has went in the opposite direction and I'm left with 1k cash right now. I could easily just go into my bank account and take some money out to play more but I set that 13k as my stoploss and I feel this will give me more discipline and incentive to practice good bankroll management. I haven't ran this bad in about a year and a half (huge coolers and 4 outers). It's starting to get to me mentally so I might just chill at this crib, enjoy the nightlife of Vegas and play online instead of going through the daily mental anguish of playing live poker. I know I can play live poker since I went on a 4 day 20k upswing in Vegas/Atlantic City. The deck is just kickin my ass so we'll see....hopefully it will change. I am trying to upload pictures of the house but it's not working so I'll try to do it tomorrow. Good luck at the tables. Teddy

Atlantic City Trip Report

Blog by : tedkgb34

This past Wednesday I got back from Atlantic City. I played the 10-20 NL Hold 'Em game at the Borgatta and it was a decently tough game. I thought that the competition at this game was a lot tougher than the game that I played in Vegas. It was a really fun table to play at as well and everyone there was pretty cool. On the first night, I got all in with aces vs 44 pre flop and the flop comes 8 6 4 so losing that pot (~ 4k ) was a great start to my trip.......I played on the second night and bought in for 2k and ended up cashing out 11,700$. Then, on the last night, I bought in for 5,000 and got it up to 15k before getting cold cards and coolered a few times. I cashed out $8,750 so I still made a decent profit. Overall for the trip, I made 14k about playing poker and lost a few hundred messing around in the table games.

On my first night in Atlantic City, I actually played craps with Vince Carter and a few of his New Jersey Nets teammates. We were playing at a 10$ min table and V.C. comes walking up to the table with 300 bucks which I thought was pretty cool. I'm about to start an online session now so ill give some stats later maybe.

21st Bday/Vegas Trip Report

Blog by : tedkgb34

So I just got back from Vegas about 24 hours ago and have been too wiped out to blog since then. It was one of the best times of my life out there....let me tell ya. The first night me and my pops got into town we played some table games and craps and I only lost a couple hundo. I think I got my monies worth of beers though so it was all good. Then the next day I woke up and went to the Bellagio. I got into the 10-20 NL game in the "upper level" of their poker room and it was a great experience. I was on my A game (all while sucking down Heinekens like they were water) and was also pretty shitfaced at the table. I was running well and drinking helped calm my nerves. It was my first time playing NL in a casino so I was nervous (especially cuz I felt like everyone at the table was a regular). I didn't know what to expect but I was never really down below my original 2k buyin and was crushing the table. I ended up making $5,500 in about 5 hours of work. I would have stayed longer but my dad was with me and I wasn't about to make him bored since it was just us two out there. The second day I came back and bought in for another 2k. I got chopped down to 1.2k in my first half hour at the table so what did I do? I ordered a bloody mary and Heineken. I drank more Heineken and calmed my nerves again. I realize that some people play very stupidly when they're drinking and most of the guys at my table were looking at me like I was crazy for drinking, but in this situation it just made me comfortable playing the style of poker that suits me. I wasn't afraid to go with my gut but I also wasn't making stupid plays. I showed down a lot of bluffs but I also had it when the guys called me. I made a 400 dollar river bet with tens (knowing they were good) and told the guy I'd show him a card and he could pick it. He picked a ten obv and called my bet instantly then knocked the table after I showed him. Everyone at the Bellagio playing that game was very nice and I had a great time. On my last hand of the second day, I straddled (I'm such a fish) and called a 120 dollar raise from a guy in MP with J 8 spades. One other guy called and the flop came down J 10 2 (one spade). I checked, other caller checked, and the MP raiser made it 400. This bet smelled fishy to me so I called and wanted to see what he'd do on the turn. The turn paired the 2, which I thought was a great card. I checked to the guy and he bet 800 dollars into me. This bet smelled even fishier because this would have been a card card for a hand like aces, kings, or queens (to another 400 to 600 dollar bet I was folding). At this point I asked him how much he had left and it was about 1100. I counted out the money and he really looked nervous when I did this. I put him all in , he calls after about 15 seconds, river is a queen and he flips over AQ!!!! Haha I looked so surprised and was in a little bit of a daze so I just got up and walked out (which I feel bad about now since I wanted to say goodbye to some of the nice guys that I met there and didn't want to look like a prick). Anyways, in 2 days I ended up about 10k or 10.5k so I can't complain. Now in a week I'm going out to visit a friend in New York for a few days then head to Atlantic City for more poker. This time, I'll play more time each day though so hopefully it'll be a more lucrative trip. Anyways, time for bed....Good luck at the tables!

6 more days!!!

I dont really have any poker related material in this blog but I have just been thinking about turning 21 years old a lot more now that it's getting closer and closer (March 4th). I have honestly been waiting for this day since I started playing poker at 13 because I always wanted to be able to go to Vegas and play. As it gets closer and closer, it seems like time is going slower and slower because I am so excited. The plan is for me to go out with some buddies on Tuesday night and take it easy on the booze as much as possible. Then, on Wednesday I have class at 10 so I'll go to that and then hook up with my dad and we will go to the airport. While I'm in Vegas, I don't want to focus as much on playing poker. I'd rather just try to have a great time, get some hands in, and play some craps with my dad. I will have all summer to play down at the casinos so I just wanna take in as much of the whole "Vegas Experience" as possible during the short limited trip. This will also be comical to turn 21 because I'm not exactly the oldest looking person in the world. I have a feeling a lot of bouncers and waitresses are going to be skeptical of me at first when I show my ID. Hopefully it's not too big of a problem because that would really start to piss me off after a while. Well, I probably won't write until after I get back from Vegas so I'll have a trip report as well as some stats of my play and possibly even some pictures. Until then, good luck at the tables!

Time is money

The past few days I haven't had much time at all for poker. Currently I am playing a quick 5/10 Cap PLO session on one of my study breaks. I'm pulling an all nighter for 2 exams tomorrow and I feel like when playing some poker on a break, it kind of relaxes me and lets me blow off some steam. I haven't been running too well yet this session and I'm down about 800 dollars. I lost HU on the first hand heads up before anyone else got to the table.

Then this hand came up which sucks....he was basically drawin to the flush to win or straight to tie....

I think I'm gonna stop before it gets too bad and just get back to studyin and hopefully grind it out tomorrow....

Good luck at the tables

Found myself a new game

Blog by : tedkgb34

Usually I don't play anything but just good old regular PLO or NLHE. On Full Tilt this past week I have been playing a numerous amount of 5/10 CAP PLO. This game is just too good to pass up. A lot of the players in this game are awful and I have been crushing the game up to this point. If you are a pretty good PLO player whose regular stakes are 2/4 or 3/6, I would recommend playing this game because the most you can stick in on a certain hand is 400$ and so many players love getting it in while they are in horrible shape. I have been running fairly well in this game although nothing extraordinary. In my last blog I promised to post some HH's. I am currently playing a 5/10 CAP session so as the interesting hands come up, I will post them in this blog. Any comments on how I played the following hands would be greatly appreciated.....I love constructive criticism and just basic insight into how I played hands. They can be found below this entry. Good Luck at the tables!!!

Just a great flop for my hand

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2153462

Wasn't quite sure what line to take here after the flop

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2153610

Again, another iffy spot post flop...had I not been playing cap PLO, I'm not sure what I would have done after his post flop bet.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2153620

This is all I have for right now....I didn't play a pot where I lost a big one or else it would obviously be included in these HH's. Maybe next post there will be some big pots where I lose (hopefully not though). Anyways any comments would be greatly appreciated!

So close

Blog by : tedkgb34

So yesterday I had nothing to do so I decided I would take a shot and play FTOPS event # 19. It was a 240$ Knockout Tournament so for every person you knock out, you get 40 dollars as the reward. I played very solidly during the whole tournament which is very surprising for me. I never really play MTT's because I don't have the patience to sit for 5 hours and make 100 dollars. I usually end up tilting after I lose a meaningless pot or I end up getting my money in real bad just to try and accumulate a big stack of chips. I only do this when I play online MTT's.....when I play live MTT's I play really well. I stay focused and really grind it out. But anyways, I kept moving up and up and by the time half of the field was left, I was eighth in chips. To make a long story short, there were about 3600 entrants and I got my money in with 77 against AQ. The guy rivered the queen in an 80k chip pot (I had previously built my stack up to 115k but lost some then got blinded down) and that was the end of it for me. I ended up taking 118th place and took home 650 something dollars. With my 9 knockout bonuses, it made my profit decently nice for sitting around for 4 and a half hours.

After that, I decided to play a little 3/6 NL ring and started off well by doubling through in the first 5 minutes at the table. By the way, I'm sorry that I haven't included any HH's in my previous blogs but I will start to do that next blog I promise. Anyway, I played for around 3 hours and built my stack up to around 2200 dollars from my initial starting stack of 600 so I was happy with my hourly rate during the session :O . Anyways, I'm playing some 5/10 PLO cap right now but I'll be posting another blog in the next few days.

Good luck at the tables!!

Bad week

Blog by : tedkgb34

It has been a bad week for poker....not only am I running bad but I'm also playing awful. I think I need to watch some more CR videos before I play another hand of poker. It hasn't been that bad of a week financially but I still have been playing horribly. Right now I'm not trying to be very results oriented and I'm just trying to play good solid poker. I'm only down 1k this week but I could easily be down 10 times that from the way I've been playing. Since I'm going to Vegas for the World Series in the month of June I'll probably just stick it out at some 1/2 NL games and try to make a good solid hourly rate so that I don't make any significant risks to my BR because when I get out to Vegas I plan on starting out at 5/10 NLHE cash games and moving up to 25/50 for the last few weeks if possible. Speaking of Vegas, I just talked to my realtor earlier in the week and it's 100% sure that we got our house! I am so pumped to be getting away from everyone in Wisconsin and to be able to get out on my own and make new connections and just play tons of poker! It will definitely be hard to JUST concentrate on poker seeing as how our house is 4400 sq ft. and has a pool/hot tub as well as 2 bars! I'm sure there will be some great times in that month. My roomate and I plan on chilling on Sundays in the pool and hot tub playing Sunday majors on our laptops so that should definitely be fun.

Also, I turn 21 on March 4th so my dad is taking me out to Vegas that Wednesday (March 5th) and we are just going to stay until March 9th. He got us a suite at the MGM so I cannot wait! It will be so nice to actually be 21 so I don't have to worry about going to bars with a fake ID (I live in Milwaukee..yes bars galore). Also, Potawatomi Casino is within 5 minutes of my place so I'll be able to actually go there and play some live poker to be able to prepare and practice getting reads on opponents in a live game before I leave for the Series.

Thanks for readin.....

First entry

Blog by : tedkgb34

Well I just joined CR not too long ago so I figured I would blog about some things. First off, I just rented a house in Vegas for the upcoming World Series of Poker in June. It's 4400 sq ft. with a sicko pool and hot tub. I am a pre-dental student so this is my only real chance to have this experience before I apply to and attend dental school. I am going out there with a buddy so it'll be a lot of fun and I know we will have tons of friends come out to visit.

In poker news, I have been playing some lower stakes (i.e. 1/2 NLHE and 2/4 NLHE) because I don't want to risk a significant portion of my BR online before I go out to Vegas and try to conquer the tournaments and cash games there. If anyone has ever been to the WSOP before and can let me know where the juiciest NLHE and PLO cash games are, I would appreciate it :) ! I have been running decently well and I think that my NLHE game is really improving drastically. The CR videos are helping tons and now instead of just having blind aggression for no reason, I am controlling my aggressive nature to help create a table image that is beneficial for my style of play and helps me pick up a lot of small pots uncontested. I have also stopped playing a lot of junky hands OOP, which I have learned from these vid's as well. Well I'm sorry if my first blog was uneventful or poorly written. It was the first time I have done somehting like this and I'm sure as time progresses I will get better at it (just like poker ha). Good luck at the tables!!
