I spewed today!!!

Blog by : talem

It had been a while that I made pretty bad spewey moves but I did that today. I was 4 tabling mixed omaha and holdem for like 3 hours straight without a break, everything was going well then a friend started chatting with me. We discussed Lakers Golden State and Fenerbah§e Chelsea match ups and I lost control. I'm having a small downswing mostly coming from 100NL HU holdem so I am gonna go to my strengths and play HU exclusively at 50cNL.

Hope this will help.

My goal of putting big number of hands is going well except my bad habit of not getting enough breaks. So I'm content. I feel like I can win at the games I play pretty easily if I get a slightly more agro but more controlled approach.

update

I lost 150$ today. Mostly at 100NL HU. I ran pretty bad against a poor player. I didn't play my A+ game all around but I felt like I had an edge in every game I played.

I feel like my 6max game is not really sound right now so I won't play 100NL 6max until I feel comfortable. I am gonna continue with HUNL and PLO games + 4 tabling 50NL 6max.

I am content with the amount of hands I played. The real difficulty is to play a sound game through hours and although I wasn't playing really good, I never went to my C game.

Here are some hands that I noted to blog.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2312847

This hands was played last week, which shows how to play spewey in omaha. My problem with his river bet is more and more players are betting the river almost 100% of the time when they have nothing and they are not value betting thin. Here villain has to have the nuts or nothing, so I made a move. The problem is not the move itself but the money villain has. He has so little behind that this move won't work profitably ever.

I'm thinking about the river stack sizes more and more and this is an aspect of the game which I have to improve.

http://www.cardrunners.com/members/replayer/replayer.php?session_id=35433

RR HU pot, I RR with AJo villain calls. A high flop, I check call. I'm really satisfied by the line I played this hand but the problem was the timing tell I got. I knew he had something after the flop. Does he call a RR w AT? NO, so I should have trusted my instincts. It is really easy to be results oriented here but have to trust my feeling more especially when I'm considering folding. I have to fold more :)

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2321268

I check back a 235 flop and turn brings an A. My opponent check raises me on the turn. Here my thought process was I'm betting the A almost 100% of the time so this is a great spot to bluff or my opponent. The mistake in my thinking line is I'm checking back this flop with only A high or the nuts. So actually this is a horrible spot to bluff.

I don't like my river bet size here. I'm one of the few overbetters in micro limits and this was a great spot. My opponent was determined to check call any so I should've made at least a pot size bet.

A new function for the blog

Blog by : talem

It is getting a lot harder to blog mostly because of my laziness, so I will try to make goals and keep day to day records here. I was out of town until yesterday and made a nice start with a 4.5 BI day.Recently I was thinking about my game and I am kind of disappointed with the following:

  • I'm not examining my plays as I used to.
  • I'm not capable of playing long hours.

Thus, in order to fix the above issues I will post interesting hands on the blog and keep a record for the hours I put in. It will be hard for this week since I have many things to do out side of poker.

One of the things that people we look up to in poker (Brian T. Cole S. PA) did was to play 8-10h(maybe more) a day especially while they were growing as a player. And I believe this is one of my main weaknesses. Especially when I'm up a few BI I get the tendency to leave the tables, lose focus and start to play bad.

Hopefully this blog will help me.

LOL @ Cake

Blog by : talem

I am gonna stop playing on Cake for a while. For some reason I can't win :) It's not that I am playing bad or tilting but just not getting good situations. After this hand I decided I should give it a break for a couple of days:

Hand #1438011708000956: Pebble Beach (6-Max) 11708
Seat 1: AgentSmith81 (28.53 in chips)
Seat 2: timka1 (36.30 in chips)
Seat 3: gman11 (18.35 in chips)
Seat 8: skilgamelol (31.35 in chips)
Seat 9: Naz (79.62 in chips)
Seat 10: calemoon (49.25 in chips)
skilgamelol: posts small blind $0.25
Naz: posts big blind $0.50
AgentSmith81: posts big blind $0.50
Dealt to calemoon [ Qc Ad ]
calemoon: raises to $2.25
AgentSmith81: calls
timka1: folds
gman11: folds
skilgamelol: folds
Naz: folds
@@@ F_L_O_P @@@ [ 8s Jh 6c ]
calemoon: bets $4
AgentSmith81: calls
*** TURN *** [ 4s ]
calemoon: bets $7.50
AgentSmith81: calls
*** RIVER *** [ 4h ]
calemoon: bets $28.25
AgentSmith81: is all in 14.7800
calemoon: returns uncalled bet $13.47
*** SHOW DOWN ***
calemoon: shows [ Qc Ad ] (Pair of Fours )
AgentSmith81: shows [ Kc As ] (Pair of Fours )
AgentSmith81 wins $54.96 with Pair of Fours with Ace , King kickers

This hand may seem bad but I guess the only mistake was on me not evaluating stack sizes good enough :) So many people call flop and turn and fold to a bet on the river.

Have to stop spewing

Blog by : talem
0

For some reason I can't stop spewing this month. I am down 250$ overall for the mont , which is not much but I feel I can't get into the rhtym of playing. Also I should start table selecting HU. I played two guys which were slightly better than me and I lost the 250$ to them.

One reason for my bad play is I don't really have the time to play thesedays, so whenever I have time I force myself to play which always results in downswings. Still I believe I have a huge edge against 80-90% of the field so I should be fine if I get into my A game.

End of a month = start of new month

Blog by : talem

I started the new month with a 2 BI downswing. I am calling this a downswing since after how I ended February, losing 5$ would be a downswing. This the last 9 days of Feb.

more HU

Blog by : talem
0

I think with rakeback I made a very small profit today. I didn't run good on Cake and lost 100$ there. My 100NL experience was pretty much close to nothing. I lost half a BI there but I felt OK. Surely I am +EV on Cake. I played a very long HU session against a very aggressive opponent on FT. I started pretty bad, didn't adjust well and fell back 2.5BI. I am proud that I didn't tilt at this point and came back. After 350 hands I finished the session 2BI up.

I haven't had a losing day like in a week and I am glad to finish the day up.
