Back From Trip

0

I made it back from CO this weekend. It was a decent trip overall.

My girlfriend and I booked on United Airlines a few months ago and got a really good deal on the tickets. We get to the airport, and when it's time to get on the plane they send half the passengers to a door that leads outside, to a stepway at the tail of the plane. We get outside, I look at the plane and realize it's old as dirt. Also, it's not labeled United, it just says "Ted", WTF? I've never even heard of Ted Airlines (Ted Turner I assume?) It felt like that scene in Major League when the team walks out to meet their plane and end up seeing that prop beater they had to fly in. Oh, and I guess it's kind of ironic that Turner owns the Braves. I was hoping that they had at least renovated the interior of this mid '80's classic (I think it was an Airbus). Nope, might as well have had shag carpet to go with all the burnt orange trim in this thing. It flew just fine, though, and that's what matters. Also, they showed "Elizabeth" as the in-flight-movie, which I thought was pretty solid.

We got to the condo in Winter Park, and everything was pretty solid. The condo is a timeshare that belongs to my parents and they never use. It's probably older than the plane, actually, but it's kept up pretty well. I finally bought some winter footwear once we got there. I got some Merrel, hybrid-something shoe-boots thingies for like $80. They are pretty sweet, and worked out perfectly for me. We ended up just walking around, shopping, eating, and other random stuff for the first few days. The weather wasn't very good on the mountain the 2nd and 3rd days, so we decided to not try to ski. I wasn't really gung-ho about getting up there due to my previous foot injury a few weeks prior (see "Fell out of a tree!!"). Well, the 4th day the flu hit both Nicole and me. We were pretty much done for, for the rest of the trip. Our outings from that point on were to the 7-eleven to get medicine and drinks. We didn't even make it out for Valentine's Day.

We headed back down the mountain, to Denver, on Friday to catch our Ted flight back. We took this van service that I have always used when there. Wow, altutude change plus the flu is harsh! The flu + going from 9000ft to 12000ft to 5000ft = HEAD ASPLODE!!!! Little did I know that the flight would be worse. The ascent was no problem, but when we started to make the approach into Tampa I thought my left eye was going to burst from my skull. I guess it was from pressure in my clogged sinus not being able to escape. I've never felt anything like that.

Anyway, I'm pretty much back to normal now. The trip, although not the best, was still a nice getaway and I did get a bit of reading and relaxing in. I read "Sit'n Go Strategy" and promptly came back and broke the $1K barrier I've been trying to get to in the $6.5's. Yesterday I played about 24 $11's, and I think they might be rigged. I broke even. I guess I'll just have to get used to them (aka run better, as they seem pretty much the same). I've also played some six-max and heads up since I got back and made about 1.5 buy-ins. I'll be trying to get in a nice mix of SNG's and cash play in the following weeks. I also want to start trying to satellite my way into the WSOP ME. Not a huge priority, but I think it would be cool to get into.
