Hey guys, happy Passover or Easter. For those of you who may not know what a mitzvah is, it means literally in Hebrew "commandment" but has essentially come to take on the meaning of a "good deed." For Passover I thought it would be a good mitzvah to warn you guys: NEVER play FullTilt's superturbo hu omaha sngs. It is literally impossible to have any edge to beat the rake, as no matter how much of a donk your opponent is he will see double-suited cards or a connected hand and not have too much trouble identifying that it can't be too bad to get it in. I learned this the hard way haha. Can't complain at all whatsoever though, life is pretty amazing.

I have my 4th of 5 Israeli Army seminars coming up; cannot wait to get started after I graduate from UW-Madison this semester. It's been a very long time since my last post and I really appreciated the support I got from many CR members. Israel is the size of New Jersey, and has miraculously not only survived but thrived as the only democracy in the Middle East despite being surrounded by much larger countries like Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, etc that have literally ganged up and attempted to destroy the Jewish State when it was founded in 1948, again in 1967, and yet again on the holiest day of the Jewish calendar--Yom Kippur--in 1973. My grandfather may he rest in peace suffered pogroms (state-sponsored pillaging of Jewish villages) in Russia when the Jews had neither a state nor an army with which to defend themselves. I cannot wait to begin taking part in making sure my people never suffer this fate again!

For those of you who follow international news very closely, it is certainly a tragedy what has become of the Gaza Strip. Israel pulled out of Gaza in 2006 as a hopeful peace gesture, but instead received in return over 6,300 Qassam rockets fired at Israeli kindergardens, hospitals and towns (and not at military bases). Israel has the responsibility to defend its children like all countries do, and it is sad that the innocent civilians in Gaza are used as human shields by Hamas terrorists looking to pin the blame on Israel for using disproportionate force in response to the Qassams, when in reality Israel risks the lives of its own soldiers to avoid hurting civilians--sending thousands of text messages and dropping thousands of leaflets for Palestinian civilians asking them to avoid certain areas of the Gaza Strip where the IDF (Israel Defense Force) are planning anti-terrorist operations. To make a comparison, it's pretty hard to imagine the US or Britain in WWII calling thousands of German or Japanese civilians to inform them of exactly where they planned to operate.

While my passion for poker does not compare to my passion for defending the small, vibrant Israeli democracy at the forefront of the war on terror, poker has been a true blessing in many ways. I'm curious to hear if there are similar stories to mine, as the success I imagine many CR members have been blessed with can open up many freedoms that other 20-somethings do not have. My friend was bragging the other day about how his business school got him a job paying $20 an hour. He bragged verbatim, "That's what Kelly School of Business gets you bitch." I hope you guys can laugh with me at how rediculous of a comment that is; it really makes me appreciate the fact that we can sit around on the computer and make in a day what he makes in a month. My move to Israel has certainly been made much easier with the poker income I am so fortunate to have invested, and I take absolutely no credit for this success. I really thank G-d that I have been so fortunate, and humbly hope and pray it continues and grows. I am very interested to hear if there are any similar stories to mine about the freedom poker has allowed other people.

I know I'm just a lowly heads-up sng player lol and that there are people far more successful than I, but in the most humble way possible I'd love to hear anything you guys have to share. All the very best you guys, take care!

Isreal stole the palestinian land, killed men woman and children, bulldozed whole villages and many more despicable things.
The only reason it has got away with these crimes is cos of the strong jew powers in America. The world is slowly changing opinion of Isreal- it has far less support than before- but there is a long way to go.
I'm not religous at all and and certainly not anti-jew, some of my oldest and closest mates are jewish- but to paint this rosey, 'we're whiter than white and are only defending ourselves' picture is BS.
Im not here for arguments with you- i enjoy reading your posts but this blog needed to be challenged- its just not right!!

I appreciate your comment and value this opportunity to inform you, respectfully, of the truth as you have stated some of the most dangerous, unfounded misconceptions that exist today regarding Israel.

--Not true in any way, shape or form. Jews began returning to Israel in the mid- to late 19th century, and bought all of the land legally. The Zionist Congress accepted the UN partition plan which gave the Jews a tiny fraction of the land that makes up Israel today--then lacking Jerusalem and other holy Jewish cities--, but the nascent Arab states surrounding Israel immediately rejected the partition compromise and in 1948 launched a war dedicated to Israel's destruction. Israel came into possession of what is known as the pre-1967 borders only during this defensive war--far from "stealing" by any stretch of the imagination. In 1967, an Arab coalition comprising the militaries of Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon, again launched an effort to destroy the Jewish State, and Israel captured Gaza, the West Bank, and Golan when these territories were used strategically by this coalition in its efforts to "push the Jews into the sea."

--The US simply did not send a penny of support to Israel until 1967. All men of good will exult in the fulfilment of God's promise, that his People should return in joy to rebuild their plundered land...Antisemitism, the hatred of the Jewish people, has been and remains a blot on the soul of mankind. So know also this: anti-Zionist is inherently antisemitic, and ever will be so. Let my words echo in the depths of your soul: When people criticize Zionism, they mean Jews--make no mistake about it..."

Again I appreciate your post but while there are many ignorant, hateful people in the world who use Israel as a scapegoat or a common enemy as a tool to try to distract their own people from domestic problems, circles within which there are well-educated and well-informed responsible people have not witnessed any withering of support for the Middle East's only democracy.

Great response to that ignorant comment made by kneebone. To say that the Israeli's bulldozed the land and killed these women and children is ridiculous. Israel was the original land of the Zionists and this just echoes all of the discrimination and hatred that Jews have faced throughout their history. Inittowinit23- although you seem to be an authority on ignorance i can assure you that my comments were not. To deny that Isreal has bulldozed palestinian settlements and killed their women and children is to either embody ignorance entirely or simply lie. This has been happening for a long time- deaths on both sides are still happening now- or maybe you think thats ridiculos too? Maybe all the media stories and pictures are made up? Maybe the palestinians attack Isreal because they are completely irrational and enjoy being killed?
Ridetime- you think my comments are dangerous, fine thats you opinion but they are not unfounded. When the UN Partition plan was put forward the palestinians did not agree. However the Jewish community did, ignored the palestinians- six months later Isreal was declared. Palestinians had no choice in the matter they did not give away their lands hence my choice of words- 'stolen' . This was obviously meant to imply that this was not handed over to Isreal rather it was taken away from the Palestinians. In the six months between this and Isreal being declared the palestinian economy collapsed and many where expelled or fled.
As soon as Isreal was created and the British mandate expired Arab forces from several countries attacked and attempted to take back their lands- this was highly unsuccesful and Isreals 'defensive' war quickly turned offensive- it was during this offensive that extra land was taken or 'came into possession' as if it just dropped into their laps as you so eloquently put it. Result- 80% of the palestinains where expelled or fled. This is like syaing that American and British forces fighting in Afghanistan against the Taliban once they are hopefully succesful will dicide that they quite like it there and decide to stay rather than withdraw. outrageous!
The UN partition itself came about, by in large, from the support of the powerful American and British member states- there was certainly little support for palestinian interests or this would never have been agreed in the first place.
And i object to your assertion that one cannot be anti-Isreal without being anti-Jewish and ill explain why but i must say (for the sake of ignorant twits like inittowinit) that i am not against Jew'ish people having a recognised state- that is not what i am arguing about its about the rights of the palestinians that i am concerned with. Thats why its possible to be anti-Isreal and not anti-Jewish- a better wording is to say anti-Isreali actions and not anti-Isreal ie its not the idea of the Jewish community having their own state rather the manner in which Isreal has and continues to treat the Palestinians.
And as regards to your last paragraph i think its widely recognised that the support for the conduct of Isreal IS diminshing. This is evident by the growing international condemnation of Isreali actions most notably from Americas (and many other countries) disaproval of Isreali settlements as they are seen as prejudging a final status of borders and are seen as possibly preventing a palestinian state. Although i do concede that support from the American public for Isreal has increased recently but this is more of a reflection of the American publics view of Islam as a result of terror attacks against them than a sudden bout of sympathy for the struggles of Jewdaism.

a couple of things kneeebone: first, stop double and triple posting because I get 10 notifications when you do that. Second, it's I-s-r-a-e-l, if you're going to try to carry out an academic argument try spelling it correctly. In addition, is is not anti-Jewish but rather anti-semetic. You are saying that the Israeli's have gone about getting back THEIR homeland in a negative way, and that's fine, but what do you suggest? Negotiating with the Palestinians who will settle for no less than taking Israel? This was a land designated for the Zionists, the Jewish, people who have been oppressed for millenia. To say that you are not "anti-jewish" is a joke because you want to deny Jews the land that they were promised and have been fighting to attain for years. Your ignorance, once again, astounds me.

Man has intelligence, but lacks wisdom.
We rape and pillage the planet, and all it's inhabitants, for the sake of greed and power.
But when you have all the power and all the money in the world, what good is it going to do you?
WE have one planet that is our life support system.
WE have to live together in peace and harmony, with our natural environment to exist.

IMHO - the more we advance in science, the more obsolete religion becomes.

How ironic that religion has probably caused more conflict in the world than anything else.

First of all I dont know if you're Israeli or American, but being a veteran if you are an american, serving in the Israeli army is completly offensive to me. We have thousands of kids putting their lives on the line every day for our freedom, and though I disagreed with the whole Iraq conflict, beating the Taliban is a must for all worlds freedom. If you are an Israeli I don't blame you one bit, I'd do the same.

ridetime... I wanted to enjoy reading your blog post and agree with it, but I have to say that your opinions come across as extemely one-sided. Some of what you say is plain silly:

Your tone in these blog posts reminds me of holocaust-deniers (ironic eh?), in that it seems you choose to avoid objective evaluation of the facts.

I understand your perspective, but there are two sides to this story, and you are only telling one.

BONUS FACTOID: I met a man who was in the Palestinian Army. He said "Palestinians don't hate Jews. They don't hate Israelis. They hate Israel."
