Ship it Holla

I went to Iowa on friday fro a bowling event on Sunday. I stayed at my friend Nathan's Aunt's house and she took us to a hockey game. It was a minor league team for the Calgary flames and it was a lot of fun. First time goign to a game since i was in elementary school. On a bad note I was very sick all weekend. Chills and fevers and a developign sorethroat. Nevertheless I still bowled Sunday. It was a youth event with 8 games qualifying and 8 games of matchplay after they cut to top 8. I qualified as leader averaging 243 and also had a 300 game 5. I didnt do so great in matchplay though and had to settle for 6th. It was all good though because one of my teammates from school took it down.

On monday. I made 4 or 5 buy-ins at .25/.5 plo and won an mtt for $810 for my first 1k day in some time. Tuesday I decided to play some .5/1 and made 3 buy-ins to get my tracker back in the green for that level. I lost $130 my shot i took a week ago at that level. Today I played 4 mtt's and got 2nd in one for $400ish and won some more at .25/.5 and .5/1 to have another great session. I have almost profited 2k in 3 days. I actually have some graphs finally for any viewers who care. Until next time I hope I keep running hottt.

The last 3 weeks and a tough ahnd

Blog by : rags2rich

I had 50 from rakeback on ub that I forgot about. So I went to the site and started playing 2 .10/.25 plo tables and steadily grinded it up to 400. A week after playing i got up to 1k along with a smallish mtt score. I brok even the 2nd week and this last week I made 1k again. My poker tarcker says I am up 800 in plo and 1200 in mtt's. I used to be a pretty good mtt player so hopefully I can keep grinding this up and get back to where I used to be. I am not playing .25/.5 plo and I am gonna paste hh's to see if I can get some feedback on some of my play. I have a junior bowling tournament in Iowa this weekend so I am chillin here In Davenport. I wen to the casino here and lost 300 playing 2/5 nl. It is very bad bankroll management and I was pretty upset with myself afterwards. here is the hand that busted me.

I have AsKh raise to $20

new unkown insta calls

crazy deep stack guy calls

loose agg guy calls on button.

pot is 85ish

flop is Ad 9d 3d

I check and plan on making move. I had 240 at beginning at hand and everybody has more then me. unknown bets 40 and crazy guys fold. I call. turn is 4d. I check he bets 75. I have 185ish left i think. What is your move..Ill post tomorrow.

1k week

Blog by : rags2rich

I am interrupting my 3 part series of my poker bio. I am in South Bend Indiana right now for a college bowling tournament. I have played a little bit here online but mostly been bowling. I have been playing PLO of late and have doing well by my standards. I can put up a graph when I get home but over the last 8 days I am up 10 buy-ins at .10/.25 and 9 buy-ins at .25/.5 and a little mtt score. My goal is to become a good plo player because the play is so bad because people are not that good at it yet.

til next time...

The life part 2

Blog by : rags2rich
0

So I was in a state of panic and I didnt sleep that night. The next day I was in class and was bored and pulled up 2 full ring 1/2 nl tables. I bought in for $100 in each. In that class period I made $200. I wish I could remember the hands. If I would have lost $200 I might have not stuck with those games but lucky for me I did win. I also need to mention that I only played NL cash games once before. It was about a year prior and I got all-in AA to AA and lost. I decided I hated them after that hand, lol. I dont know exactly how but over the next 2 weeks I got up to 2k and eventually to 5k by a month. I was back and rolling. I was making about 1600 in rakeback and cleaning up for about 8bb per 100 hands for a couple months when I hit a big score. I had about 9k in my account and I played the $109 on UB. I won it for about $6500. After that I played all the big mtt's on UB along with still grinding the cash games. I prob had about 10 1k-3k scores in a 3 month period.

It is now December 2006 and I am rolling with about 18k in my account and living a pretty fast lifestyle. I ate at fancy restaurants, paid for my gf to accompany me on all of my junior bowlign trips, and didnt see any sign of slowing. I won another $109 on UB for $8750. I went to vegas from the 25-30th for a junior event and one night I stayed up all night in my hotel room because I went on a sick rush in PLO. Previously I have played it a few times but never any memorable success. I think I actually decided to play because I just watched a omaha vid. I opened up 2 1/2 tables anyways. Dropped a buy-in instantly and almost quit. Somehow I got it all in with AAxx against KKxx and doubled up so I kept playing. What happened over the next 5 hours I will never forget. I made $200 on one table but on the other table I ran my $200 buy-in up to $2400. I dont have any memorable hands but I remember creeping out of bed at 7am about to leave the room and my gf caught me and got all mad. She was questioning why I was leaving and I was like, "I'm pumped up 2 g's im getting a fatburger". I wish I could say I ran it up to 40k and lost it to sbrugby in a bad beat but I pretty much donated it back over the next few days as I had no clue how to play really.

I wish I could call this a success story but its really not. Its almost typical. I am from a house with no extra money really. I have a loving family and wouldnt replace them for anything but putting this much money into a kids hand who a year before made minimum wage just isn't a good idea.

Last month I visited home and went thru all my old papers I used to track my money on. I had peaked at 36k in early January 2007. By march I had 8k. I went on the worst downswing of my life. I couldnt hit a tournament and was losing at least 1500 every sunday in mtt's. The part that hurt the most is the shot.

I think every poker player success/failure story involves the taking of shot. We have all seen rounders. My shot did in fact occur in cash games too. I have never told anybody really the details as it is embarassing. I have actually never even told anybody how much i was rolled up to. I mean I had a ton of money. I knew in the fall I would soon be attending school in Missouri and would need to have money saved for expenses but I was never happy with making as much as I did and this has a lot to do with CR pro Ian Johns.

Ian J is from the same area as me. He is as you all know a LHE specialist. If you ask him he will tell you that he started to play poker seriously because of my dad. Seeing my dad make all this money playing cards online inspired him. In fact when we would be at junior events together him, my dad, and I would talk about poker in between frames. Ian quickly became good as he studies real hard and never withdrew money in the beginning. He started out as an mtt pro. He reached as high as 24 I think on the old pocketfives rankings. With his mtt winnings he was able to move up stakes in his LHE cash games. He eventually chopped the sunday million from his Bellagio hotel room and later that year won a wsop bracelet. He was also the best junior bowler in our area and I considered myself to be 2nd. He is 2 years older then me and went adult at 19 where as I am still a junior at 21. The difference is I win scholarship money and adults win cash.

Just like in bowling I always wanted to beat him. Don't get me wrong I love the guy. He is a good friend still but him and I were rivals and I wanted his lifestyle. I think I have set the settign enough for the shot. In 4 weeks I lost 20k on UB. In fact it was all my money I had on their site. I had to withdrawal all my money from other sites to get it some back on there. It was lost from 5/10 to 25/50. I dont think I slept very much those months and my gf never knew why I was so on edge in that time period. It was a bad time of my life. I never told anybody because so many people would have loved to keep on grinding and making as much as I did but I...blew it. It took me a long time to get over it. I talked to my school counselor and he put it into perspective. Teh money is gone and I wont get it back. only way is to get back on the saddle. My parents didnt know but I dropped out of school then too. Nothing was goign right. I had to loan out a few g's to people who needed it and pay for my summer expenses in advance and once again I was down to nearly nothing.

The ups and downs of my little career

Blog by : rags2rich
0

There is a good chance this will bore you but I felt like writing out my history for once. This started in 2003.

I used to be a daily to weekly blogger over the last 3 years but recently haven't blogged hardly at all. It all started when I was 16. I saw Chris "Jesus" Ferguson win the WSOP Main Event. That was my first experience with poker and from there I started to play online as did my father. We started off with play chips on Ultimate Bet and finally my dad made his first deposit. He would play the $1 MTT's daily and I would watch along with playing freerolls and play chip games. When I was at school one day my dad won the $1 MTT finally and from there he gradually took off to building a roll. My first time seeing how much potential there was in this game was when I was 17 and he got 2nd in a $20 mtt on party poker for 4500. That was when I got my mom to deposit $50 into my account and I of course gave her $50 I earned working at the local bowling center. I lost it slowly but surely playing $5 sit and go tournaments.

It wasnt til I was 18 that I made my first deposit on my own. I was old enough to deposit myself and I got a credit card too. I deposited $600 on to pacific and party poker. It was the maximum my credit card would allow me to put on. I tried grinding .25/.5 limit cash games but slowly it got down to about $95 when I won my first MTT. It was a $5 limit mtt and I wanted to quit because I only had 1k at the break when you start with 3k. Somehow I went hot and won it for $675. That was the most exciting day of my poker career at that point. I remember telling my friends at school the next day and they thought it was play money or I was lying. I kept on grinding the cash games and of course my roll got down to $200 again. My dad is still doing very well online and his roll is prob around 10-20k. One day I entered a $10 mtt no limit mtt and got 2nd for 1100 which brought my roll over 1k for the first time. At this point I was a freshman in college and still working at the local bowling center.

One day at work in November I got into an argument at work and quit my job in hopes of relying on poker. I quickly got down to $600. I won a $20 mtt for $2800 that month and for some reason in December with a roll around $3500 I entered a $109 mtt on party and got 2nd for $8200. I had about 50 of my friends railing the final table and I remember waking my dad up to tell him my huge score. I took about 4k off for a trip to vegas for a junior bowling tournament and for some new toys. Over the next 6 months I kept staying profitable but for the first time I had money and thus traveled to every national junior bowlign event because it was fun. As you know traveling was expensive and after a while my bad bankroll management caught up to me and I was down to $400 and about $500 in bills every month. I had a huge phone bill, direct tv in my room, every poker training site subscription, and other random monthly subscriptions. I needed to turn things around and fast.
