Full Tilt 6-Man Turbo SNGs

Blog by : quad2408

I started playing the 6-man turbos back when Durrrr famously said he started out playing at $6 stakes on FTP. I took a break for while by going back to Pokerstars and playing the Double or Nothings but coming back I am just on a hot hot streak.

I'm actually kind of worried because doing the math it doesn't seem realistic to be maintaining such a high ROI (~70% at the $5-10 level over 150+ games). Then again maybe the 6-man players are just softer? Because I definitely do not get the same results playing 9 handed.

I'll probably be making this my game of choice, except that whenever I multitable on Full Tilt the tables will freeze for no reason. I emailed tech support twice and their response was to reinstall the software. Not to rant but Poker Tracker reports I've paid thousands of dollars in rake to them; you would think they would make some stable software.

Reached Shark Status!

Blog by : quad2408

Just got back from APPT Macau, played 4 $500US satellites but didn't get a seat. Oh well. I realized that live poker tournament variance is just too high to be spending that much per entry.

Good news though, is that my username obsoleet2408 is listed as a shark on Sharkscope! I've accomplished this by 6 tabling $20 DoN and $12 MTTs while playing my favorite MMORPG, EVE Online.

I definitely feel that I've been playing phenomenal poker; yesterday while playing 100NL I called down 3 barrels all-in on the river with bottom pair against my opponents Ace high.

Time to make my graph even better!

Going on a nice run in $10 DoN

Blog by : quad2408

Played 4 sessions of 12 table Double or Nothing for admittedly low stakes of $10, and did surprisingly well. Sharkscope is showing my ROI at 18%. Surprisingly, 12 tables of $10 is even higher than playing 2 tables of $50 SNG, which is not bad.

Truth is, I'm just trying to crush these low limit SNGs so I can build myself a nice Sharkscope graph, haha.

I've also been 12 tabling 100NL on FT to make Ironman (I view poker as long term so I plan to get Ironman every month and reap the benefits). Surprisingly you only need to play 1 hour to hit the 200 FTP required, so I play my one hour, double on one table and leave.

Crappy thing is, yesterday I lost 3 buyins, wiping out 3 days of work when my nut straight was cracked by a runner runner full house, flopped set cracked by a flush, and when I 3bet a player on the turn on a rag board with pocket sixs when I was absolutely sure he had nothing, he calls and hits an ace and wins the pot with A6.

Going Forward - Full Tilt or PokerStars?

Blog by : quad2408

I've been thinking about how and where I want to spend my time playing poker.

I had originally thought about setting my sights on Supernova Elite by playing 8 hours a day 5 days a week starting January 2010. Although I have bankroll and discipline to put myself through a year of grueling work, in the end I figure the risk/reward and opportunity cost are simply too high.

Although I enjoy poker, I really can't stand playing for more than 1-2 hours at a time - online at least. It just begins to feel mundane, yet stressful (since I'm constantly playing 8-12 tables).

So I decided on whether or not I wanted to play at Full Tilt or Pokerstars. Both sites are basically the same, except that Stars uses a VIP program while Full Tilt uses Rackback + Ironman program.

On Stars, one must reach 100,000VPPs to hit Supernova, which is roughly equivalent to FT's rakeback. However, to get that much VPP, one must play quite a bit (every Supernova has made PS $20,000usd in rake since $1=5VPP)

On the other hand, Full Tilt offers 27% rakeback no matter what, plus you get the Ironman program which gives you additional bonuses. Getting 200FTP a day for Ironman status is quick and painless... and if you kept it up after one year you would be getting about $1000usd a year in bonuses, playing only one hour per day!

That's not bad at all considering that it could take months to hit Supernova and that once you did it would reset at the end of the year.

I can only dedicate about 1-2 hours per day playing poker, so Full Tilt is my obvious choice. I've moved all my PS money (except my winnings) to Full Tilt, and from now on I'm going to use my PokerStars account only to play small stakes SNGs to have a nice Sharkscope graph to show off.

Playing Sets While 12 Tabling

Blog by : quad2408

While multi-tabling, I when I have a set, my strategy is simple: get as much money into the pot as possible. But after having set over set happen twice, and and a turned straight beat my set, I am wondering if it is possible to fold a sets while multi-tabling and still be +EV?

Here's one hand: I have a set of 4s on a board of A94. On the turn it's a blank and I face an all-in bet. I seriously thought about him having a set of Aces or 9s, because I thought AK was pretty aggressive there since there were no draws to be worried about. Nevertheless I called and he had a set 9s.

Should I just say "It's poker" and move on?

Back to Cash

Blog by : quad2408

Well, I went on an interesting run in Tournaments. Overall I'm not enjoying how Tourneys are so volatile (in an MTT you may bust 5 times before you cash big). I've got a positive ROI and that's all I need to prove that I'm a winning player.

These past couple days I've been 12 tabling 50NL, which surprisingly is equal to a $3/6 live game. I've averaging quite a nice sum an hour and so I think I'll just be sticking to cash for now.

I have to say though, learning tournament strategy has really taught me about ranges and overall preflop strategy.

Weird Hand

Did I play this hand correctly? This was kind of a weird hand. Even though the pot was small I figured I was beat and folded.

Follow me on Sharkscope!

Some people think its not a good idea to show others your ROI data, but although I'm not (yet) proud of my graph, I think it will continue to climb higher and so I'm going to post my screen names for both PokerStars and Full Tilt which are obsoleet2408 and quad2408 respectively.

This gives me more of an incentive to try harder and play good poker since I know people will be watching. Not to mention that I had a pretty good run today on some MTTs, final tabled all 4 and placed first in 1.

Playing Better on Tilt

Blog by : quad2408

So today I actually went on tilt and 8 tabled 6-man SNGs for one session... once down to the bubble I just went on hyper-aggressive mode and started shoving at 15-20BBs and actually placed second in 4 of the 8. I should have gotten 1st on 2 of those but maybe I'm on to something...

Some guy even called me a donk (I was shoving with suited connectors on the button on the bubble and got called by Kings), promptly before he got knocked out by me a few hands later.

98% Win Chance? More Like Zero!

Blog by : quad2408

Today I had the worst beat of all... I had A7 on an A747 board against 44, all in on the turn. Villain rivers a 4 for quads. Doesn't surprise me too much, in fact I kind of just laughed.

It figures you know... since lets do the math -

Set vs Straight Draw all in on the flop - Chance to win = 0%
AA vs KK all in preflop - Chance to win = 0%
Sevens Full of Aces vs Sevens Full of Fours all in on the turn - Chance to win = 0%

Then some terrible hands -
QQ, called by 67, flop comes 589
AK, board comes Axx, called by AA

Then while playing a big tournament -
First hand all-in QQ vs 99, I busted out as well

Like Barry Greenstein said on HSP, "Math is Idiotic"
