Women's Poker Radio and Update

Blog by : princessdonk
0

Hi guys!
I recently had the honor of doing an interview for Women's Poker Radio so here's the link.
I've been really busy lately grinding lots for the team PLB and individual PLB bets I signed up for. It's been a really good month as I've dropped a few of the high variance tournaments. I've definitely surpassed 100k in cashes alone this month and profit wise about 80.
The big scores I've had this month are:
2nd in the Turbo 50k for 17k
1st in the Stars Nightly Hundred Grand for 20k
1st in the UB 50k 6m for 20k
1st in the Stars 109 freezeout for 15k
2nd in the Stars NHG for 17
and 4th in the UB 75k for 8500
I've had other scores around 5k as well and other deep runs. I've been trying out many different things and really working hard on my game.
My next big live event is going to be WSOPE and EPT London. I'll be there September 21-Oct 4th so if any of you are going to be out there PM me :) I'm just trying to keep up the volume but have been stressed out lately with life as well. I had a health scare (but thankfully, I'm ok) because I just haven't been feeling well in the past month and with other personal issues.
I've been missing my family more and more lately even though I just saw them about a month ago. My mom is planning on moving back to Singapore to take care of my grandmother so this might be the last Thanksgiving/Christmas with my family for awhile. My lease ends in Vegas in a couple of months so I really need to decide where I want to live. Suggestions?!
Ok that's it for now, I hope all is well and everyone is running amazing. :)

WSOP recap and Looking Ahead

Blog by : princessdonk
0

Ok wow...where do I start? I feel bad I haven't updated but there's always so much going on.

First, I've been told by my friends that I haven't posted my Cardplayer links here. Or maybe I posted one, who knows? Anyway here goes:

http://www.cardplayer.com/cardplayer-magazines/65786-david-williams-23-11/articles/19305-generation-next-vanessa-peng

http://www.cardplayer.com/cardplayer-magazines/65789-liv-boeree-23-13/articles/19375-hand-2-hand-combat-vanessa-peng

So, WSOP was a bust for me...I definitely needed to figure out the differences in live and online. I kept busting 10 mins before day 1s were over soooo frustrating. The event I felt I played the most solid and even great in was the 5k 6m. I even got Benyamine to totally softplay me. It's pretty amazing to me how well that works to my advantage live. I also got to play a few hours with Ivey this summer. I sat there and tried hard not to gawk.

Couple of things, I played close to 20 events and would have played more but I kept getting sick! I don't know if its the Rio or what? I know part of it is I'm not used to playing live and being around all the germs but stilll! All the running around and having to go to parties finally caught up with me in a bad way. I was bed bound for almost two weeks with a fever, sore throat, cold and cough. I unregistered from the 10k hu the day of because my grandfather died late that night and I knew it would not be a good idea for me to play. I'm still really sad about that and I need to go back to Singapore asap to spend time with the best grandmother in the world.

I had to do a lot of networking this summer and yes, I even have an agent now.

One of the weirdest things that happened (not once but a few times!) were people asking me for autographs? The first time it happened in the hallway of the Rio, I nearly fell over in shock. My response was "Are you sure? WHY?" Strange, but really cute and flattering.

A little personal note, this summer has been one of closure for me. Some of the people I held closest to my heart that I always wondered what if...or what happened came back into my life (whether I wanted them to or not!) and provided me with a great sense of closure. I'm truly not bitter and I really wish all of them the best of luck in the future and life. Something I need to keep reminding myself of is to always be mindful and watchful of who is in my life. I am definitely more of a rainbows, butterflies and sunshine type of person at heart (I know I know, how am I a poker player?!) and there are people out there who do not look for my best interest. Don't get me wrong...all in all its been a more than amazing summer with lots of good friends and good times! I had soooo much fun at the CR party meeting you guys!! Shoutout to Kara Scott who I thought was just as absolutely lovely and charming in person as on TV.

I'm also really tired of Vegas. My lease ends soon. I'm tired of the superficiality in that city. I'm tired of the "deeg" lifestyle that people live. I'm tired of the value people place on material things. I've seen what the city has done and can do to people. I'm very fortunate in that I'm able to escape Vegas when I want and need to. So anyway...I've started brainstorming ideas on where to live next. I think I'd even like Vegas more if I lived with other poker *normal* players.

FTOPS/UBOC/WCOOP start soon and I can't wait to get my grind on. I'm part of a PLB competition again...check out p5s! After that, as long as I'm not - tons of $$$, I'll be hitting EPT London! Oh in the middle of UBOC and WCOOP there's a little $550 ladies event I'm going to be playing at the Golden Nugget. Hehehe soooo cute, I love ladies events! After that, I'll figure things out as far as living arrangements.

Little brag of the day, I just won 1st (well chopped hehe) in the FTP weekly Heads up $200 Turbo! Hope all is well :) also please follow me on twitter now that I finally use it. http://www.twitter.com/princessdonk

Cardplayer WSOP and Sunday Recap

Blog by : princessdonk
0

Hi guys!! Super busy time of year for me but I wanted to say my first cardplayer article is out this month :) page 30. Next month will be a two page article featuring two hands from my FTOPS hu semifinal match.

As far as WSOP, the big events I'm looking to play are the 5k 6m, the 10k hu and of course the 10k me. I'll be grinding all the 1ks, 1500s and venetian 2ks as well.

Also, Sunday was a pretty huge day online for me. I chopped the 500 6m ub and got 2nd in the ub 200k guarantee. I also final tabled and got 5th in the 200 superturbo on Stars and made a deep run for 7th in the ub monthly 1k hu. In total about a 40k or more day in profit.

Sorry about the lack of updates but I might make it to the first CR party and meet some of you and/or catch up with old friends if I busto early.

Hope all is well!

P5s ranked :) and Update on Scoop

Blog by : princessdonk
0

I made my debut on p5s at 85 although plb wise I'm ranked 71. Pretty excited to be ranked! Look for an p5s article on me in the next few days. I hope to be able to move up in rankings and continue to play really well.

I hit another big score on Saturday taking 2nd in the Stars $320 for 23 or 24k. However Sunday was a bust -10k and Monday was another awful day of about -7k. Yowch. Shouldn't have played the 1k rebuy turbo was pretty dumb on my part. Standard mtt variance tho.

[x] swongs

In other news, I booked my flight to Vegas (finally!) and am excited about heading back. My place has remained empty for the past 6 months luckily, my roommate is super cool. I'm spending 5 days before wsop going over lots of hands and analyzing past mtts with a friend. It should be really fun and honestly, a much needed break. I'm pretty worn out right now and can't wait for this week to be over.

I decided since I have about a week to play around as far as time goes before Vegas, I really want to take up horseback riding again. A few years back but it seems like almost a lifetime ago for me when I lived in Louisiana and dated a guy whose family owned a large rodeo company, I was around their horses a good bit. My favorite was a paint horse named Cowboy with beautiful blond hair. He was huge and really tall. Anyway, I was always a bit afraid of horses until one night I had to go to the barn by myself. I drove a Jeep Grand Cherokee at the time and was leaning inside the driver's side looking for something. Cowboy came right up behind me and stuck his entire head into the Jeep and started nuzzling me. I instantly fell in love hah. This horse was as friendly and as curious as a dog. Lately, I've been dying to be around horses again so I figured this would be a perfect time to do so.

Hope all is well!

Update/Ftops/Cardplayer etc

Blog by : princessdonk
0

Ok wow...so much to talk about! First, this new CR layout is going to take a lot of getting used to. Guess in some ways, I'm a creature of habit.

So I made a deep run in the FTOPS hu event where I got 3rd. I lost 77 aipf to A2o. Was disappointed but I think I played really well. At the same time, I made a deep run in the 100 cubed (1r+1a) 6m on FTP and won it for 21k. I really love that tournament because its 6m and you do have pretty deep stacks when you reach the final table. Honestly, I don't think I played that well in that tournament I was super focused on heads up and really really exhausted by the time I busted hu and it was 4 handed. I was actually having trouble keeping my eyes open so a big shoutout to my friends who kept me awake with jokes and encouragement!

I thought it was super awesome that I was on the front page of CR news. It was even more awesome that Cardplayer contacted me to do a feature article and hand to hand combat. Really really excited about that. I was a bit nervous about the phone interview but luckily Craig Tapscott is a really nice guy that made me feel very comfortable quickly. It was really such an honor and privilege to be asked to do this. I definitely don't think I'm anywhere close to the level of the other guys who have been in Cardplayer for the same thing.

Today was a huge day as far as buyins. I played both the 2ks the scoop high events but busted pretty quickly. The 2k 6m I ran KK into AA pretty early in a very standard cooler spot. I think if I had more chips like 25k I could have considered folding. The second 2k 2 day main event I pretty much busted the first hand. I flopped a set of 4s on a K 4 6r board in a 5 way flop. I ended up getting set over setted by KK. I'm wondering if I could have found a fold but again, I think I'm just being results oriented.

Onto good things for today! I'm still two tabling and pretty exhausted as is most of my Sundays but, I WON the 100 cubed turbo on Stars for 42k!! Really excited because I've been looking for a score over 30k for awhile so its more of a personal accomplishment.

So I should end this blog now and concentrate..it's going to be a sick couple of weeks. I'm going to try and play as many Scoop high events as I can that are good value. Meaning I don't see the point in playing the 10k as last year there were not many entrants. Think I'll skip the 2k cubed and the 1k rebuys as well. But, I will be playing the 500r 6m tomorrow. Ok enough rambling, hope everything is going well for you guys!

Friday Night Fight Win and Europe Update

Blog by : princessdonk
0

Well I guess I can no longer say FTP is rigged. I won the Friday Night Fight this past week. Ran like god to get there but who doesn't in an mtt they win?

Made a really big mistake when asked to chop hu. I was really sick all Friday having woken up with a sore throat and a 102 degree temperature. I really felt like playing as I get bored just sitting around so I played a really short session starting mtts for about an hour or two only. This was the biggest buyin which was nice. Anyway, by the time it got to heads up, my head was literally spinning I was so dizzy with fever chills. Big THANK YOU to all my friends who railed keeping my spirits up. I usually don't like chopping but this situation totally warranted it. ICM gave me 25k and I was actually going to ask for 26k but I was typing in a haste and accidentally hit 25. I figured I'd do the honorable thing and just go with 25 and not screw the guy over.

Saturday and Sunday were total busts I went deep a few times but nothing spectacular. I was also still really sick. I ate three cans of chicken noodle (not the actual chicken) in 3 days and guzzled OJ and nyquil (so attractive, yeah). Thankfully, I feel better today having woken up with a normal temp (yay! and not a moment too soon). I went shopping, did laundry and updated my iphone with tons of awesome music. Not sure what other chick's playlist includes Rage Against the Machine, Metallica, Disturbed and then Kesha and Lady Gaga hahaha.

Anyway, my friend Chris (a2steaksauce on some sites) is flying in tonight. We leave for Europe tomorrow and I still have heaps to do. Again, thankfully we have a direct flight from Charlotte to Germany. THANK YOU PRICELINE! We get into Munich at 8:30 am with an 8 hour layover...I'm so excited to have a real Bavarian breakfast and check things out. Then its onto Nice, France where we're contemplating getting a helicopter to San Remo. Its supposed to be the same price as a cab. I've never been in a helicopter before! In San Remo, I'm meeting up with lots of my friends...some I've never met before. It's funny how we can all forge friendships online after months and months of chatting but have never met. I can't wait to hang with the guys and play poker.

The days between EPT San Remo and EPT Monte Carlo are up for debate. There's been a lot of talk about heading to Amsterdam for a few days of actual vacation. Then its Monte Carlo hah! I'm a little annoyed at Pokerstars. I thought that if you won a package you would be staying at the same hotel that the event is held at...would make sense? But no....oh well, not really complaining the hotel seems nice (although not as nice as the other). I also signed up for a PLB competition today that runs April 23-May15th. Uhhh...not sure how I'm going to swing that with that first week me being gone but, we will see. (think I must be insane)

On the whole, life is really great. I think that I'm so fortunate to do what I do, Even on bad days, I can't imagine doing anything differently, but being a poker player. Hah guess, I'm going to leave you guys with an awesome song hah been listening to it nonstop. Hahaha so addicting.

EPTs and two Sunday Major FTs

Blog by : princessdonk
0

Hi guys! I'm not even going to try and apologize for my lack of updates, I've just not been feeling in the mood to blog at all. I'm going to attribute that to pure laziness.

Speaking of laziness, my volume has really dropped for the time being. I'm really enjoying life and having an actual social life. I still play the big mtts online but have been taking Tues/Thurs/Fri off. Onto fun things...I just booked my flight to the EPTs!! I'll be overseas next week and until SCOOP starts. My schedule is going to be crazy busy.

A highlight of everything is there is an 8 hour layover in Munich and I'm so excited to run around and check it out. Then, flying into Nice, France the Cote d'Azur airport before catching a train/cab to San Remo. After EPT San Remo, we have a few off days so we're all thinking about heading to Amsterdam for the few days before EPT Monte Carlo. I'm particularly excited about Monte Carlo as the hotel is supposed to be really sick. After Monte Carlo, we're staying a day in Nice to grind a can't miss scoop event and hopefully running around and exploring France for a day.

Really excited about trying out different types of food...which will be difficult actually since I've been vegetarian, leaning towards vegan for awhile now. One dish I'm dying to try is actual spaghetti pomodoro in Italy. Also incredibly excited to catch up with some mtt friends and just hang out. I'm going to make sure to take lots of pictures despite my lack of photography skills.

Poker in March was extremely profitable but very frustrating. I final tabled two Sunday Majors the first being the 2nd chance on stars where I placed 4th after losing a flip against a reg. The second being the Sunday Mulligan where I came in 6th after losing with KK to AK. Frustrating but I've learned quickly with tournaments not to allow things like that to bother me. There were other scores mixed in as well which provided for a really nice March despite my lack of volume which was a nice change from February.

Anyway, that's about it for now, hope everyone is well.

Ciao babes :)

New Year and LAPC

Blog by : princessdonk
0

Well, again sorry guys for my lack of updates. 2009 was a really interesting year. In some ways, I still can't believe I made the switch to mtts. I've been very fortunate to have several 40k winning days but have yet to get that elusive 6 figure score. I sense great things for 2010 so I just want to continue to be a better poker player and work even harder on my game.

Anyway so I decided to go to LAPC. My first big live event. Wish me luck! Also if any of you bebes are gonna be out there. Send me a PM or get in touch.

It's been a really long time!

Blog by : princessdonk
0

Hi guys,

I haven't blogged much recently because honestly, I just haven't had the desire to do so. I guess the first thing to talk about would be poker. November was my biggest month volume and cash wise. As a result, I was talking to my good friend Zimba and he wanted to interview me about that month. I told him a little about how I got involved in mtts and what resulted in a two part interview featuring my friend and mentor, Jason Koon (jakoon1985/novasky). Mine will be up next week! www.pokercurious.com/interviews/view/jason-novasky-koon-interview/

In November, I participated in a PLB team race where captains drafted team members and each person put in 1k to teams of 5. First and second place teams won part of the money and I'm happy to say my team came in second. It really motivated all of us to get our grind on during FTOPS.

December has been good so far despite the fact that I've been taking lots of time off (lots of time for me anyway!). I won first in the Stars daily 109 fo 40k for 14.4 and in the same day won the FTP daily 30k 6m for close to 9k. A few days later, I won the Stars 100q (2r1a) and then, just had my second biggest day ever on Wednesday. I got two second place finishes one in the UB 20k DS where I spewed hellaciously HU and in the UB 100c (1r1a) where it was all in three handed. The SS had JJ, big stack who covered me shoved into my bb with A9o and I made the call with 1010. He binked trip As by the river. Was sad because there was about a 5.8k jump between 2nd and 1st. I then took down the UB 80k sniper (well got 1st place prize money anyway!), the others wanted to discuss a deal 3 handed but I had about 65% of chips in play and refused to take less than 1st place prize money. They eventually chopped 2nd place money between 2nd and 3rd and gave me 1st for 22.2k and winning 34k for the day.

I feel as if, I'm finally getting into the swing of mtts. Months leading up to November since July have been all losing months. This downswing particularly hurt because WCOOP was in the midst of all this and I really dug myself in a hole. Overall, I'm extremely happy I made the switch to mtts. It's not for everyone, the grind can really wear a person down and I've learned how to deal with my tilt extremely well. Don't get me wrong, I still have a long ways to go but I used to get so upset over bad beats deep in tournaments and I realize now there will always be another tournament to win so why waste my time and energy over something I can't fix.

Life wise, I brought my little dog and me back to the South for a few months over the holidays. I'm really not interested in playing live until WSOP time so coming back here didn't conflict with anything. Gam has been extremely spoilt in meeting my family and loves it here.

Here he is checking out some Christmas decorations. This was the first year that I put up a Christmas tree in a really long time. My best friend's family has been selling Christmas trees and I couldn't resist buying one. I really love real Christmas trees.

I also made sure to take a couple of weekends off from playing mtts. The first weekend, my dad and I went to Clemson's last homegame against UVA and then the following weekend, my old roomie and sorority sister and I went to the Clemson/USC game which we unfortunately lost but still had an amazing time.

Finally, my best friends and I took a trip up to Lake Lure/Chimney Rock, NC. Lake Lure is where they filmed Dirty Dancing and we rented a mountain cabin near the lake. We had a blast even though it was literally Ghost Town, NC. One night we drove four different places looking for dinner. I later scared my best friend half to death by telling her ghost stories and looking up scary videos on youtube. Poor thing didn't sleep very well. Hah, I'm such a great friend. The next morning, the place was covered in a fog which was incredibly beautiful but spooky as well.

Ok, that's it for now. I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and an amazing 2010!

Sooo closeee.

Blog by : princessdonk
0

It was an interesting Sunday...min cashed in a ton of things mostly on stars and whiffed everything on UB surprisingly haha. This was actually the first weekend I played with a HUD (lol thanks Rodeoblue!). I think having a hud again really helps. Anyway my deep run was at the FTP 150 rebuy where I got 7th or 8th? 7th I think. Oh well, pretty big cooler when I was 2nd in chips I ran JJ into AA really doubt I could fold it. I used to get really upset at things like that but have been working tons on my poker attitude. So, I'm actually really excited that I went deep and final tabled the 150r which was the biggest mtt so far I've ft'd. At least all was not lost, a friend of mine pokerjamers won it! I think the next closest was when I ft'd the Sunday 2nd chance a couple of months ago but even that prize pool wasn't as big as this. My big thing now is I'm pretty much happy breaking even on Sunday since I invest so much. Cash games have been going amazingly well this month, it'd be a huge month for me if I didn't spend all my money in mtts. BLAH. I'll have to see about posting some HEM shots now that its actually working.

Anyway, so onto real life things, I have to get ready to move. I'm actually moving in with a girlfriend here. She also has a little puppup that terrorizes mine haha but fortunately mine is bigger and able to hold his own! I think having another dog around will really help him since I know he gets very lonely and still misses Ava (and I do too everyday :( ). Moving in with another girl will also be fun and good for me, someone wrote a CR blog this week about how lonesome mtt grinding can be. I think the same post applies in general to poker but definitely agree that mtts in general, can really make a person antisocial. I think it'll be good at the end of a long session to have human interaction!

Also, I booked my flight to Aruba! I am sososo excited. I want to go scuba diving or snorkeling down there. I was looking online and I can learn how to scuba dive here in Vegas, its like an intensive week long program. I don't know if I should just learn down there? Anyone who reads this blog that's been through this can comment hehe.

Lastly, hmm I think I should spend more time in the South when there's not major poker things going on. I just really really miss my best friends, the ones I've had since the beginning of high school. I also really miss my family. My brother just bought a new house and I'm so disappointed I can't be there to see it for myself and they are talking about adopting! Yay, I cannot wait to be an aunt! So I think I'm going to spend every couple of months here and every couple of months there. When I told my friends, they all pretty much told me not to tease them and to call them when I've actually booked a flight haha. I'm such a flake.

Until next time, xoxo and glgl babes!
