online recovery & mega live donkament heater

Blog by : oscaracosta
0

It's pretty obvious what happened in the 5 months since the last blog, when part of the title is 'first bad session for July'. I went on what was for me a monster downswing of 20 buyins, and decided to drop down to .5/1 to grind back up as I wasn't happy playing off a 30 BI roll.

Any PLO reg (Mig? lol) would laugh at a 20 BI downer, and I guess the tilt was the most pressing problem at the time. From HEM, about half of the swing was running bad in all ins, so half was running bad pre and tilt spew - way too much tilt spew. I don't want to revisit any old hands now, so I'll just post some month end graphs and move on.
July:

August continued to suck, even though it should be pretty tough to have a losing month at .5/1 due to both fish and regs being more passive.

September just depressing.

October finally managed to book a small win and hopefully turn things around.

I haven't played at all in November, as I made a big move to a new city for a new job and have been running around nonstop while not at work. Hopefully I can get something going next month.

To make up for the online grind, I have been crushing live donkaments like a machine made of lag and suckouts. I played two afternoon tourneys at the International (ex the Gutshot) while I was between jobs for old times sake, nailing the first (in particular the final table with 3 bets) for the win, and lucksacking the second obscenely to chop it HU.

Now that I'm in Dublin, I hit up BigCityBanker on 2+2 for a tip on cardrooms and he pointed me to the Fitzwilliam. I actually played the Friday night a‚¬60 + a‚¬50 (a‚¬10 scalps) the night I had my interview, so I knew it was a good spot. I busted that time early, but have been unstoppable since. I played the first weekend and took third. A guy and a woman at that final table were so green they lifted their cards up to their chests to peek... of course that guy owned my soul, lol... first hand of FT, I 3x UTG w KK, he flat calls for half of his stack (doh). I could even maybe have check folded the flop as it was Q high, but cmon. He had AA obv and held up.

Later on I just won a big pot to bust someone and take over the chip lead, I'm still stacking chips UTG and look down at QQ. 3x, and the same guy flat calls for a third of his stack (doh). This time the flop is T98, so whatever, I have QQ and 6 outs so I ship. I get noobrolled by his AA which holds up again. Anyway, he busts and we get down to 3 handed with a competent chip leader and a bad short stack. CL limps on my BB, I 3x w AQs, and he shoves. I snap it off and he crushes a K on the flop with his K7o. I was kind of annoyed, but I actually quite like the play. It seems more natural to pull that move with Ax(s), but my calling range has lots of big aces and hardly any big kings, so he'll be in better shape when called.

This Friday was a festival weekend so they doubled the buy in, and I won this one for just over a‚¬3K :) I deserved to come fourth after making a huge mistake and sucking out, and then played a hand horribly HU and got lucky there too. They hadn't bothered to chip up further than 1K ones, so at four handed everyone had huge stacks (about 600K total on the table). So, to go all in everyone was just tossing their scalp chip (you got one for busting someone, they were worth a‚¬20) into the middle.

I had QJo in the small blind, everyone with less than 10BB, so I ship it. Then, look up to see the ultra nitty CO player had already tossed in his scalp chip. Nothing to be done except suck out against his AKo, AQx flop, J, blank, boom. Soon after the tight middle aged guy sucked out against the other competent dude and we were heads up. It was a dream spot, as he was your typical play your cards older guy who will always get murdered by anyone who can adjust to HU. So I started wearing him down until we got to 200K vs my 400K, and then I checked out my brain.

So, he limps the SB, I look down at 92o and decide to raise, as these guys love to put money in on a street and then fold. I raise 30K to 50 total, he instacalls. I'm still trying to figure out if I have any kind of plan when the flop comes down T98cc. So OK middle pair, 1.5x pot left, I guess I'm all in, instacall, oops.
Luckily, he manages to show down 75o and misses, so, uh, gg.
I might have a go with half of the 3K at the PLO game there, although BCB said it's not often a great spot. But we'll see.

June PLO graph, first bad session for July

Blog by : oscaracosta
0

June was nice and steady, which is always great for PLO. I basically ground out the rest of the VPPs for Supernova so I could grab a new 26' monitor via the concierge ASAP. Unfortunately it's been appropriated to replace our TV (lol), but we don't really have anywhere to set up a desktop anyway. When we look at moving to a bigger flat I'll grab a desktop. Concierge is really solid value at $500 = 31K FPPs.

June09

July got off to a gross start though with a -$1200 session. I stacked off to LolDnkaments (SkillGambler on 2+2) twice and got hot, plus another couple, which lead to my tilt leaks coming straight out.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4448566">www.pokerhand.org/ meh, not like he's folding AA here, dunno. 40/60, sometimes I'm crushed.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4448561">www.pokerhand.org/ I can't ever see folding top trips A kicker with 3 live kickers, got to get it in on the flop. 40/60 again
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4448568">www.pokerhand.org/ seems weird this is 50/50
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4448555">www.pokerhand.org/ LolDnkaments again, this one set me off. Pretty standard by him, maybe a little call happy by me, but he is very aggressive.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4448557">www.pokerhand.org/ just horrible spew, embarrassing.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4448559">www.pokerhand.org/ this is much worse though. At least spewing helps you get paid off later, this is just a huge -ev 'get even' call with absolutely no upside.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4448571">www.pokerhand.org/ yuck. Got snapped off, this would be a great line with 45 though.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4448576">www.pokerhand.org/ managed to stem the bleeding here and quit soon after. I do hate quitting that far down and have to force myself not to play 'just one more round'...

So after i cooled off I got back on the bike, and tried to just put in a normal session. But I'm still a bit steamed and making the mistakes that compound and lead to getting a stack in bad.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4448682">www.pokerhand.org/ Calling 3 bets with pairs just seems to be a leak, no matter how pretty they are. Once at the flop I think I need to just peel here, getting it in is never good for me.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4448692">www.pokerhand.org/ luckily there are always players playing worse than my C game :)
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4448701">www.pokerhand.org/ ty sir
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4448695">www.pokerhand.org/ always happy to see RoundTower playing, he's probably the worst (most predictable anyway)reg. I'm slightly ahead on this flip.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4448705">www.pokerhand.org/ can't not try to abuse that turn bet, especially at nitty FR.

So I think as long as I switch tables if an aggressive reg is on my left, and avoid the spew and the stationy crap, I just can't not kill these games. This came into play in yesterday's session, where I took slightly the worst of it for stacks in a few spots, without having to get involved. I just need to show a bit more discipline overall when things aren't going my way. Will try for 10K hands in July and update with cool sessions.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4448759">www.pokerhand.org/ I have $6 invested here, and 0 fold equity obviously. Just pure gambling. With 89 instead of 8T as backup it would be fine.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4448770">www.pokerhand.org/ This is much worse though, as my KK has no added value. Should be a super easy fold.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4448775">www.pokerhand.org/ Lol, so awful. I need to be good 33% to call here, it's more likely < 1%. What is he doing, turning a T high flush into a straight flush blocker bluff? I remember regressing into hold'em mode here, I bet the turn, went away to another table, then came back to see the pot bet, and went hmmm don't have the nuts can't raise, instantly clicked call.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4448781">www.pokerhand.org/ please don't tease me on the turn if you're not following through.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4448787">www.pokerhand.org/ this was the highlight of the session. I don't usually stick with heads up for long, but he was a weak player with > 100 BBs. I do feel sorry for him this hand though. The positional advantage in PLO is just too brutal sometimes.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4448788">www.pokerhand.org/ Not a great stackoff by villain. I think you need to play this one weak OOP and try to get a cheap showdown.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4448794">www.pokerhand.org/ gambooooool :)
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4448797">www.pokerhand.org/ one change I've made to my game is 3 betting to 18 or 20 instead of full pot. I've come around to thinking that a third of effective stack isn't enough to get in pre to stack off with AA on any flop, especially when villain can play perfectly against you. It would be an interesting problem to work through, my gut says 40% is certainly enough. Here villain can only make it 55 pre allowing me to call with a junky hand and grab his stack on a great flop.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4448802">www.pokerhand.org/ this one is totally fine, esp against a half stack. They never understand dominated draws either, so turns out to be better than expected.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4448806">www.pokerhand.org/ lucky to get a big stack in who doesn't understand them either.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4448807">www.pokerhand.org/ half stacks are pure profit, never met one who was even halfway competent.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4451308">www.pokerhand.org/ This has to be my favourite bluff in PLO, or any game I think. I have tried it 3 or 4 times and it goes the same every time, they tank, type something about getting so unlucky, then fold. I think it would have 100% against anyone with any discipline at all, but you wouldn't want to try it against a complete drooler. I would also be suspicious if a reg tried it out, as it's a terrible donkey 'I haz AA so tricky lol' line.

So managed to grind back a couple of buyins, and confident I can crush the rest of the month. The test will be the next bad session and whether I can quit before I do more damage to my roll.

May (sick heater); vs tay, schneids & isaac

Blog by : oscaracosta
0

So May was interesting. I was planning on grinding out the Stars reload then heading back to FT, until Stars dropped the UK (and rest of world as it turned out) bombshell of free VPPs for UK players only. It made sense for me to stretch to put in Platinum volume for the month for an extra 80K VPPs, which means now I'm only 3K short of Supernova. It also meant some sweet rungood:

The majority of this (at least early) was the sickest run I can imagine with AA, to the point I started feeling sorry for my opponents.
www.pokerhand.org/
www.pokerhand.org/
www.pokerhand.org/
www.pokerhand.org/
www.pokerhand.org/
www.pokerhand.org/ the hard way
www.pokerhand.org/ not sure about this one
www.pokerhand.org/
www.pokerhand.org/ fullring_lol
www.pokerhand.org/ wintermag_lol
www.pokerhand.org/ lost one, surprised at villain's play that deep

Other interesting hands...
www.pokerhand.org/ people play bad... really bad
www.pokerhand.org/ oops. The only note you need at full ring is whether or not you can run them over.
www.pokerhand.org/ fullring_lol
www.pokerhand.org/ on the flop, I don't mind raising or flatting here, but flatting may be slightly better to bring in worse draws. The turn is pretty clear and might fold out the other big stack if he has a bare J9, which would be great. Even with FH outs gone I'm even money with the AJ hand.
www.pokerhand.org/ limpreraise_lol

I also managed to play the CR $50 NL event on FT. I got home on the saturday night about 20m late and checked out my table - two sitouts on my left (sbrugby & a random); Schneids, Isaac Baron and Taylor on my right. LOL. So it was obviously a fun table, and I got to semi own with my sweet position. Only sore spot was Taylor calling for a J when I was all in against Isaac w KK v JJ, so my disdain level for him actually rose from none to little. So fun times until the table broke, I went to a new table with a healthy stack but couldn't win a pot.

With all the cash play I did neglect any WSOP satellites, so I'll try the mega on Stars tonight and the $500 on FT. Shouldn't expect much the way I ran the last two years, but still feel like I should put up to $2K towards a soft field and a decent holiday. GL for other CR members still trying to pick one up.

Murder burger (pics, obv)

Blog by : oscaracosta

Ok, I had an interesting session and will post some hands, but first - finally dug out the Murder Burger pics from my trip back home to New Zealand.

[x] Double Beef and Wild Boar Bacon Burger w homemade bbq and cheese sauces

Kumara chups (sweet potato chips...)

YES

Let me get that for you...

Om nom nom

Ok, hands... Tilt gave me a $300 bonus, so I'm back there after grinding out my $250 on Stars with $750 profit. So far, down a bit but I think I can beat 1/2 at a good clip if I start running ok on EV and situationally.

These two against the same guy are standard
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4120154">www.pokerhand.org/
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4120164">www.pokerhand.org/

But managed to put him massively on tilt, or we've played before and he gives me zero credit. I love barrelling a scary board then magically rivering a boat :) although I was ahead every street...
I guess he has to call the full pot river as I always have complete air/flush draw/unlikely monster such as 789T. But the turn call seems pretty bad.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4120166">www.pokerhand.org/

That started a period of getting a truly ridiculous amount of aces. I couldn't see how to sort a session by preflop hand strength on PTO, but maybe once I get HEM Omaha I can do it. It seemed like about 10 hands out of thirty.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4120189">www.pokerhand.org/
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4120174">www.pokerhand.org/
I got a nice quote from villain in the last one - 'aces are so overplayed' lol. Not this time, but I have definitely been guilty in the past. I'd like to see an 'aces' leakfinder PLO video with a ton of different AA hands (hero & villain), going through some maths and discussing various flop equity.

This was a tough one with no read. Maybe too nitty, not sure.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4120172">www.pokerhand.org/

Definitely nitty, lol. Had a feeling...
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4120179">www.pokerhand.org/

Thanks guys! Good work on the flop before any nasty scarecards come. Nice sweat on the turn too.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4120184">www.pokerhand.org/

This one is pretty interesting. I would put his range to checkraise as KT, TT, AK, KQJ. I think calling may be OK as long as I could be disciplined enough to fold Broadway or a flush to a turn barrel. I would really hate to see KT here as that would very likely have an A or Q alongside. As it happens I run into dry TT and have all 11 outs as a small underdog. Getting it in looks to be a small mistake but would be a very tough fold.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?4120213">www.pokerhand.org/
This one would be very interesting against someone known to make good laydowns if deeper - imagine turning Broadway + TTTK into a semi bluff on the turn :) That's why this is the greatest game of all!

£200 PLO (London Masters)

Blog by : oscaracosta
0

I find NL pretty boring live these days, so I was stoked to see the International/Gutshot hold a £200 PLO tourney on Friday night for their London Masters series. There was a nice field of 99 on the night, and I managed to identify Wazz from the bottom half of his face and the discussion with his mate over dinner about variance. He bustoed early (maybe playing like his last video, lol) and went to play cash, so we never got a chance to have a decent chat, nice guy though and took an interest in how I was doing.

I was average to short all the way through, with not too many interesting spots. I hit three flops all night and doubled with sets on two of those, and otherwise had to steal and resteal to keep up. I did run into a few problems when down to about 10 BBs, and not too sure how best to adjust.

First time about 40 left, I forget the blinds but opened to 3.5 with about 9 or 10 BBs on the button with KJ97ds, the BB was solid and decent and commented that he couldn't give me much credit as I'd been raising so many unopposed, before calling. Flop came down A84r, he checks and I want to pull the trigger but chicken out. Turn 9, he checks and now I convince myself to check behind with showdown value. River blank, check check and he shows JJ for the win. Nicely played by him, not sure what best to do in this spot at all. Maybe raise smaller pre so to leave enough to bet fold that flop?

Anyway, I ran hot on PF all ins (prob 5/7 where I was overall flipping or a small dog) and made the final table but fairly short. The jump from 9th to 8th to 7th was only about £100 so it was important to try to double up for a shot at the top three. So of course, it happens again...

Folded to me in the CO, I have 57K and KKJ4r, and pot to 21K. The SB calls with only 80K to start so he has a hand but is looking to hit before putting it in. Flop is AxQsJs, checked to me and again I can't do it... Turn is 8x and he puts me in so I fold leaving me with 36K. After that, nothing playable for an orbit so I'm down to 27K, again in the CO and see aces after EP pots it, so I ship and lose to QJJ9. 8th paid £832 so will be OK for greasy 20 quid notes for a while. Haven't seen Watchmen yet, it's getting really love/hate reviews so quite apprehensive about it ruining the comic for me. Alan Moore has an excellent interview about this and other cool stuff at Wired - www.wired.com/entertainment/hollywood/magazine/17-03/ff_moore_qa">http://www.wired.com/entertainment/hollywood/magazine/17-03/ff_moore_qa">www.wired.com/entertainment/hollywood/magazine/17-03/ff_moore_qa

Watchmen & PLO

Blog by : oscaracosta
0

With Watchmen out this week, it looks like Alan Moore will finally get a decent adaption from one of his graphic novels. I was a little worried by Rosharch's Batman voice from the trailer (he doesn't need a gravel voice to be one of the greatest characters of all time), but it looks as though it will follow the book fairly closely - still set in 1985 rather than updating it to the present, although the theme certainly has a lot of resonance today.

I still think it should have been a 12 part miniseries on HBO, but I suppose that's an even tougher sell than the movie for execs. If you haven't read it yet, grab it before you see the movie, but remember the rule - you can only read one chapter a day! I scoffed at this when someone gave it to me to read but it really made a huge difference.

I picked up some new comics last week so will give a rundown of those later on. For poker, I had 45 minutes spare on Friday before heading out at work, so played a few PLO tables without a HUD. It felt like coming home.. obviously I ran super hot and got paid off by stations, but it's so much fun compared to grinding NL full ring. I made 3 1/2 buyins in 45 minutes, all standard except for this fun one against a reg.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?3928394">www.pokerhand.org/
Flop action: BB checks, UTG+2 checks, MP1 checks, CO checks, Hero bets $26, BB folds, UTG+2 folds, MP1 raises to $107.45, CO folds, Hero says "gl", Hero says "got 2 sets ", Hero raises to $337.05 all in, Hero says "lol JJ?", MP1 says "really?", Hero says "JJ no good", MP1 calls $105.85 all in

So, I guess I'll hit the PLO for a while and go back to PTO. I wouldn't mind dropping down to $100 if I run bad, but I hope I can avoid the bigger swings by sticking to full ring as much as possible.

Graphic novels are fantastic. Especially if you stay away from superhero stuff, it feels manageable - like you can stay on top of all the good talent out there. Of course, the talent does tend to filter up via superhero comics, where a promising writer gets a spot on a major character in order to prove themself.

Brian Azzarello - I got the latest Loveless, which is great but difficult to like. It's the same with his other major series 100 Bullets, chewy dialogue and ultra violence. I think the only reason I can follow the plot is that it's a Western, which limits the amount of characters. I gave up on that with 100 Bullets, which is fantastic apart from the global conspiracy bit which is really tedious these days without a good angle. Which brings us to

Garth Ennis - Author of the awesome Preacher, which had a new and hilarious spin on the overused global conspiracy. His new series, The Boys, is a very timely take on superheroes and very funny and filthy. There's an extended scene in the new vol 3 that had me laughing out loud.

Brian K Vaughan - Y the Last Man, which I've let slide, and Ex Machina which is very different and extremely likable. I'm actually interested in the 'sweep' of this series, plotwise and thematically, which is unusual for me.

Robert Kirkman - The Walking Dead, the final (ongoing) word in survival horror. Makes all zombie movies look like the fluff they are.

Next time I'll look back to some of my past favourites - Alan Moore to star of course.

Back from paradise (AKA NZ)

Blog by : oscaracosta
0

We got back to London a couple of weeks ago after 3 weeks back home in Auckland, NZ. It was an awesome, busy time with lots of family stuff (mine and P's), scorchio weather, my first ever rainbow trout caught in the river, and murder burger (murderburger.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/murder-burger-menu_inside.gif)

Now, it obviously sucked to come back to work and freezing sleet, and we could see ourselves moving back home sometime in the future (unlike last time, when I was keen to get back). But then I took a look at last week, and there's a lot to say for London.
Monday - snowed in on my birthday, about 6 inches of gently falling powder overnight and through the day.
Wed - Andy from work can't use his tickets to Sound of Music, we get two for free, and they're upgraded to centre stalls ten rows back when we get there. OK not my kind of show, but still a fun night.
Thurs - lots of Guinness (according to Patton Oswalt, a cupcake and handjob smoothie) around the pubs in Soho.
Sat - Birthday dinner (put off from Monday) at Corrigan's - modern Irish food, world class, could have eaten everything on the menu
That's a pretty cool week, and none of it travels well!

Anyway, Full Tilt was timing out on my folks crappy wireless so I went back to Stars to try and grind up the 2.5K I left there. I way prefer the software, the speed, and the customisation - double click in the slider box to raise to 3x pre and so on. I think it might be slightly fishier, maybe with a few more complete half stacking idiots, but hard to be sure. I definitely find it easier keeping track of players with the unique pics. I pulled out some interesting hands and won a bit but couldn't even get the hours in while on holiday.. ah well.

One of my resolutions was to play better in 3 bet pots.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?3831706">www.pokerhand.org/

I guess I was against QQ, JJ or KQ here. The turn is not great as makes it tough for him to call again, and I'm not afraid of anything so can afford to give him the river free.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?3831694">www.pokerhand.org/

This one is standard I guess, but just a reminder for me to keep on barrelling for value, and not worry about towning myself against passive players.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?3831724">www.pokerhand.org/

Another reminder, not to spew horribly with little or no fold equity. I seem to do one of these every session - either right at the beginning (no image, now give me credit for a monster) or at the end (OMG haven't outplayed anyone this session). If I can cut this out and save half a buyin every session... ???... profit
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?3831743">www.pokerhand.org/

Villain is a multitabling reg I guess. He puts me in a tough spot pre and on the flop. I knew when I bet the flop I would get punished a lot of the time, because I have to call if I bet. But, I don't think he risks a free card with JJ or QQ, so he's on AA, KK , 99, or overs + FD, or spazzing with just overs. So, a thin bet/call. I don't like his play pre though as I can flat monsters, and he'll have to stack off on a dry K or Q high board.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?3831752">www.pokerhand.org/

Looks like not a great turn card, but luckily we can always assume half stackers are terrible
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?3831758">www.pokerhand.org/

^ QFT
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?3831763">www.pokerhand.org/

& again.. snapped this one off.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?3831789">www.pokerhand.org/

Also some full stacks.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?3831797">www.pokerhand.org/

Ok, so I said no spew... but this one was good! The 9 is such a good card to raise for him, and I may get spite called by 67, T7, TJ. I wouldn't have expected many made hands to raise/call that were worse than trips. This guy though, pulls off the nice reversal of turning a made hand into a bluff and then a bluff catcher on the same street!
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?3831772">www.pokerhand.org/

Butchered by everybody. I should really be good enough to fold the turn.
www.pokerhand.org/">http://www.pokerhand.org/?3831777">www.pokerhand.org/

The other weird thing is the ultra passives. You can usually bet that they're calling 3 barrels if they called 2, even if it's pretty shocking what they turn up with.

I finally got my boomswitch taken down this morning: I decided to start getting up at 6ish to grind 8 tables for an hour and a half on weekdays, when it's 1am ET and the full ring players are ready to gamble. I finished up 150 on Slansky Bucks but down almost 800 in cash mobneys, and my EV line finally overtook winnings which feels more normal. I was quite busy with 8 tables so didn't post hands, but they were pretty standard, 1 set v overpair, 1 overpair v top top, 1 overpair v pair + open ender, and KK v AA.

I also managed to tilt off a stack against an obvious AK by checkraising the KQJ flop and barrelling the A turn and blank river. It was 120 to call on the river for him but he snapcalled. Not a terrible bluff, but I have to remember to bluff into weak hands, it's just never worth trying to get people to lay down a decent piece.
Anyway, here are some hands from the last few sessions:

Floating... the turn raise is too big, I'm committing anyway and a smaller raise looks stronger. He should be checkraising the turn pretty much always rather than leading.

I think this is about 50/50 on the river, so I always like to look people up.

This is the kind of fish play I'm trying to cut out of my game. Not sure what line would be best here.

I love sucking out on shortstacks...

wtf...

Good laydown? I think it's a chop at best, so OK with it.

People just love to coldcall 3 bets for some weird reason. I guess it's still just +ev to set mine, but seems weird when the action is nowhere near closed. Or you could do it with Axs. I really like my flop bet, not sure about the turn.
www.pokerhand.org/

If I'm barrelling the turn, I need to bet the river small as well. His range is exactly KQ and draws, so I can fold out the chop (Asxs) and prevent the bluff from a busted straight draw. It wouldn't have worked this time but it's the best play.
www.pokerhand.org/

I used to give up on this kind of flop against multiple opponents, but it makes sense to barrel sometimes as it does look stronger than if heads up.
www.pokerhand.org/

I'm always very cautious in full ring with AJ and KQ, as I seem to run into AQ a lot and value town myself. Players will almost always flat with it rather than 3 bet, and then play passively when they hit top pair.
www.pokerhand.org/

Maybe a check raise on the turn, but firing is probably best against the normal passives. It didn't make sense for him to have a boat (some chance of 75) and he'll pay off an overbet with any flush. Shame he had the wrong one.
www.pokerhand.org/

I played this one very strangely for me. I can't really cold 4 bet pre, but calling is fine for a 3 handed pot. It's a good flop, so I decided to check call all streets to get full value from AK and air.
www.pokerhand.org/

Gin flop, getting it in in good shape, abused by the SB afterwards.
www.pokerhand.org/

Really horrible.. he can bluff me knowing I can't call. I think it was 5s full here though.

wtf pt. 2...

Now I'm just looking forward to getting in my 10 hours a week, and the results should follow. Cheers FT, no doomswitch please.

I also tried to get some cash onto Betfair to put a bet on Demidov and Eastgate, but couldn't get the withdrawal through in time.

HE manager, final table

I gave Holdem Manager a download and love it so far, it's just far more user friendly / complete package than PT. They don't have an Omaha version yet but I'm staying away from PLO while I grind out some profit, so no loss.

The only problem so far is posting hands when reviewing a session, as there's no popup HH to copy paste. I'm up nicely, just the same problem of getting the hands in. I'll check out Daut's multitabling video soon for anything I'm missing, but can't complain at $120 an hour (no jinx!).

We've got a cool lineup of gigs this month, saw Russell Howard on Friday and Okkervil River coming up on Tuesday which I'm more excited about than anything. Their new album is on form as usual, incredibly solid with a few huge songs to add in to the rotation of past hits live. I saw them about six months ago in a small bar when they took over from Interpol as my favourite live rock band, so just hoping they can fill out the Shepherd's Bush Empire as well.

I also tried to get some cash onto Betfair to put a bet on Demidov and Eastgate, but couldn't get the withdrawal through in time. I don't think I'll be able to avoid finding out before I get a chance to see the ESPN footage as most of our sites have a poker news feed, but looking forward to it anyway. I'm especially keen to see whether Phillips can get away from his live donk moves that we've seen so far, with the underbetting and heavy sighs when he has the nuts. I think he'll do OK but then get carved up when they get to shorthanded, unless he can catch some serious cards at that stage.
