indeed...

i haven't felt like playing the past couple of days despite decent results lately, so i've been concentrating on studying and watching videos and whatnot. i think it's healthy to do this every once in a while.

i watched the latest leak finder video and saw some good stuff that eric liu talked about. pretty interesting. it's definitely a good watch, imo.

we had "ladies night" last night. that's where my gf and les' wife play while we sweat them. les' wife moved up to 25nl (brag) and she broke about even. she would have been up a ton if the over aggro donk hadn't have left the table. i think they were getting tired of the way we were playing back at them and ran off to better pastures. brandi ended up about half a bi. she's been doing really well for herself and continues to amaze me with the amount of learning she's done in such a short time.

joshua's gotten the itch back, and that's awesome. it's been fun railing him every once in a while and i still learn something everytime i do. good times.

i think i'll put some hands in tonight or definitely tomorrow. i'm getting the itch again, myself.

june over, july here!

Blog by : ocyras

june was a really good month for me! i managed to meet all of my goals that i set out for myself in june, so that's a good thing. with july here, i have to set some more goals for myself:

  1. reach an ironman level on FT (2 months in a row so far, and it's so much easier at 50nl)
  2. keep improving my post-flop play (i think it's showed huge improvements in june, and i've been reaping the benefits)
  3. help brandi grind some more 10nl

brandi's doing pretty well at 10nl. her ptbb/100 is a little low, but for never playing a hand before the end of may, it's in the positive which is great. she has amazing self-control which many new players don't. i bought some more stuff on poker for her and i'm going to try and get her to go over some stuff with me.

that's about it as far as poker goes. as far as life goes, we should be having a baby this month. i'll post some pictures when this happens. life is an amazing thing right now.

short session, longer blog

Blog by : ocyras

i played for about an hour this morning because i wasn't going to be able to play tonight and i got a little over 300 hands in. i ended up a buy-in. nothing too spectactuclar, just standard ABC poker. i've been running really tight since i moved up to 50nl, but i think it was just the cards i've been getting. i'll definitely be reviewing my stats to see if it's not.

i purchased holdem manager yesterday and i like it so far. i just think the HUD probems with PT3 are ridiculous and i couldn't take it anymore. it was nice being able to have my HUD stats up on the table for a change!

i'm gonna try and put in a good session tomorrow, but we'll see. i need to in order to attain the silver ironman status on FTP and get a bigger bonus next month.

we did a group session last night where we watched les, alex and chad play. it was all pretty standard stuff. chad moved back up to 50nl so it's another guy i'll have to look out for. i spoke with piperinga83 over skype and we reviewed some of his play at 50nl and i hope i was able to help him out. it was interesting to hear the kinds of thoughts he had in his play and hope to trade some sweat sessions with him in the future. i also sweated james (2DUMB2FOLD) along with jeff (L3NGTHY). we watched james get coolered to hell for about 2 hours. he's been running horribly for the past 10k hands or so, but i'm sure he'll be able to turn it around.

50nl... finally

Blog by : ocyras

so i made the move up to 50nl last week and i haven't really been able to put too many hands in, but i'm a small winner so far... i lost 3-bi yesterday, but most of it was very standard and i'm still quite happy with the way i'm playing. i'll get those back in the future, no problem.

i did win one hand where i should have folded on the flop but i jammed over a raise and caught him bluffing. after talking to the guys, i see that it was definitely a mistake to do this and i won't be doing it again. i just happened to get lucky.

my gf's still playing 10nl, and that's going ok. she's gotten into some weird spots and she's definitely not running very well. the great thing is she's really taking it all in stride and fixing any mistakes she's making. it's awesome to see progress both on and off the felt because she's not tilting and stops when she's not in the right mindset. amazing really for a brand new player.

we have another "girl's night" session tonight where she'll be playing with les' wife while we watch and help out. we all really enjoy it and they seem to learn something new everytime.

later,

thoughts out to some people...

Blog by : ocyras

i'm sure many people have seen the stuff that's happening in iowa and it's pretty sad to see. i guess this tragedy hits a little closer to home because a couple of guys from our study group actually live there and are going through it. it puts everything in perspective and really shows what's important in this world and our lives.

i'm not much of a praying guy, but my thoughts definitely go out to everyone there. gl and keep safe.

so far, so good...

june's been pretty good to me so far and i'm on my way to reaching all of my goals for the month. my 50nl shot-taking should happen sooner than expected and i'm really psyched about it. i've started dissecting my stats and figuring out some areas i need to improve on, one leak at a time.

my gf hasn't played much because she hasn't had the time, but she's always talking about how she wants to fire up some tables, so the enthusiasm is there and that's great! she's only logged about 1.5k hands in her poker career, but she's coming along pretty quickly and it's pretty exciting to see the growth.

in other news, my son graduates pre-school tomorrow. should be a good time. i'm gonna get him wasted on kool-aid and take him out for pizza or somethin. whatever he wants to do!

poker...

i've been in a bit of a slump recently. it's not really a slump, just a 5 buy-in drop which in the grand scheme of things is nothing. moslty coolers and i just haven't had the hands to make up for them, which happens.

i played a session earlier and was up 2 BI, so that was a nice change of pace. i feel like i'm playing the same "A" game, so hopefully results will follow.

tonight my gf (i keep refering to her as my gf, she does have a name), les, les' wife (she has a name, too) and myself will be doing a sweat session together. they're calling it "girl's night", which is fine by me since i guess almost every other night is "guy's night". it should be fun and interesting and hopefully we can all learn something.

brandi, my gf, has been doing really well at the tables when she actually plays. she's been a winner so far and she's picking things up rather quickly, which is something i foresaw.

i'll post some stuff from the session tonight on here tomorrow.

congrats joshua... lol_lucksack be thy name...

so we played "the big game" last night... joshua took it down FTW, but i thought i played real well. joshua's gf sat in for a total of 5 that were involved in the prop bet. there was always another person reaping the benefit of our over-aggressiveness. it was kind of weird to see how my stats on each table changed based on who was sitting to my left.

les is a nit, and last night proved that. i don't think he ran higher than a 16% VPIP on any table and his nittiness helped him achieve a net loss on the session of 0. i lost a buy-in but i feel i played pretty well. i tried to stay within my game and it worked out pretty well, imo. being down a buy-in when i was sitting at a table with my coach and mentor, his protege, the coach's gf who i'm sure gets tons of advice and another person from our study group is definitely not an easy task.

i'm sure we'll do the game again and i'm gunning for top honors as i want my $25 back!

"the big game"

Blog by : ocyras

tonight is the big game... a few of us from the study group are gonna sit down at some 10nl tables and grind it out for about an hour. the overall winner gets $25 from each of us, pretty good incentive to play well. should be a good time.

in poker, i've played about 3k this month and i'm down almost 2 BI... not bad. i'm definitely not running well, but i think i'm playing well so the results will come, i'm hoping.

short entry today, i'm gonna go pray to the god of monster draws to help a brother out.

funnest 10nl session ever!!!

Blog by : ocyras

last night, alvin, les, one of alvin's students and myself sat down at a 10nl table for some fun. it was probably the best time i've had playing 10nl ever and poker in general in a while. the game was playing very aggresive, of course, and there was some "level-tastic" plays happening.

i ended up a decent winner, but it was mostly luck, imo. i made a re-squeeze play that worked out which i'm kind of proud of. the line-up was definitely -EV and if i saw those three guys sitting at one table i definitely wouldn't be wanting to sit in. there wasn't really a good seat to be had at the table, but i think a good time was had by all.

our study group is now talking about 4-tabling 10nl for an hour and paying the overall winner $25. should be a good time!

in other happenings, les talked his wife into doing a sweat session with les, myself and my gf. this should be a good learning experience for everyone. hopefully we can set something up to do it this week.

loldonkaments...
