running bad, playing bad, up a lot!

Blog by : obstante

So this week i played badly...ran horribly bad on live games ( will write abt the hands later), but manage to make two final tables, backed my friend who took down a tourney, and with bonuses and my rakeback provider mistakes, i am up roughly 3k online this week. I think i dropped a lot on NLH, but i dont think i want to give up...i will just find my leaks...my acct went from 3700 to close to 6k after rb...so technically i shoudl take a shot on 1-2 nl, BUT...since the $ didnt come from NLH i am not sure i am ready for that yet.

I will write abt the live game hands...it was insanely sick....but i am on a HU right now...so TTYL guys.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Blog by : obstante
0

If some $ mysteriously appeared on your acct, what would you do?

A: tell the website abt the glitch and return it

B: leave it there for a while to see what happens.

C: Immediately cash it out and hope it hits your e-wallet

Well, i logged on my rakeback provider and found 600$ bucks in it. It can't be mine since i haven't played any FTP at all, and that is the only rb i get from that site. It might look really bad on me, but i opted to pick letter C. If it does hit my acct, i want to use that $ to partially pay for a new laptop. I dont think i am a bad person..maybe it is a gift from poker God for all the bad beats i took lately.

Pokerwise, i bounced back and won back pretty much all i lost. I am actually up 1 buy in for the week not to count RB. I figured that playing 100 max is easier than i thought, u just can't push it. Just value bet. No need to make moves. Today i decided to make ONE single move, i raised PF, barreled flop, barreled turn, and went for a pot size river barrel. Board shows str8, flushes and he was capable to call me with 3rd pair. WOW. Needless to say that 45 min later, when i actually had a hand, i stacked him? Well, he had me covered, so i just doubled up...but my point is, go for VALUE TOWN and leave the tricky plays for the higher stakes.

It is good to be up 1 buy in after being down 12 buy ins on a 2 day span. If i keep doing good like this, u guys can expect me on 1-2 before end of October. Lets hope i can do it ;)

Cheers,

Pat

DROPPED 10 BI!!

Blog by : obstante

Hello,

I like to move it move it, but so far, things are not going my way. This is actually good...it makes me reflect even more and now that i am not playing and just reviewing...i can see how spewy and out of control i was. I dropped about 1k but after i finished 3rd on the 25r...giving me 600...so down only 4 BI....add another 150 in RB i am down only 250 ;) But well...i think i will take slower on my next session...i will start out tight and try to get a feel on every player before i start making moves...in other words...let the cards speak by itself...dont force the action.

I have this goal to move it to 1-2 by the end of november....and boy, do i want that to happen. If anyone have any suggestion or similar spots pls let me know.

I LIKE TO MOVE IT MOVE IT!

Blog by : obstante
0

Hello all,

I haven't written or updated my blog in AGES.....i have decided that i want to continuously write and update it. It will help me to reflect about my game.

Let me locate where i stand right now. I am currently playing 100 max. I prop for this one site (rather not disclose the name here) where i get paid over 100% in rakeback. That gives me from 1k-1.5k in income a weeek, which is nice. I mostly cash that out. What is left is my BR.

As of late, i have decided to move it move it. Inspired on BT's videos, i want to do the same. At the moment i have a BR of 35+ buy ins. I feel that this is a reasonable amount, and i will never move down. If i ever go broke, i will just put more $ in. I think 100 max is the minimum i will play. When to move up? I will move up when i get to 60 buy ins, then i will give a 5 buy in shot at the 1-2 games.

I will be very happy if i can move up to the next level, but hat wont be easy. On the 1-2 level, u could easily have a 1k variance session, and that is a lot for me, but if i dont leanr how to control my fears, i dont think i wil ever improve.

Things to remember during this mission:

Dont play too tricky....at the 100 level, you need to bet for value, and not splash around. Sure feels good to show a bluff, but believe me, that wont be +EV on the long run.

STAY AWAY from PLO. PERIOD. Not even to relax....I often relax 50 here, 100 there.....it eats my BR little by little.

Playing fixed limit omaha hl is ok, bc my edge on these players are so great, that it is ok. I am allowed to play up to 5-10 while on this level.

I will put 2k BR for live games. If i lose that, then i will have to take a brk.

Just now i played a small session, +2 buy ins. Probably up another 1+ buy-in in rakeback. Good start ;)

NO MORE CAH!!!!

Blog by : obstante

It is funny, because i have been playing cash for the past 2 years....however...in the past month, i must have dropped around 5k in cash playing low to medium limits. On the other side of the spectrum, i have had some good tournament results. Took down a few tournaments, including two 3 figure scores and a few final tables. The only problem with tournaments is that u have to commit yourself a lot of time..including when u r not playing. I find that i play the best when i prepare myself prior my journeys. I do have the desire to take a big one soon, and that is just a matter of time.

Until then....NO MORE CASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, feels like shit...what can i say? Whatever i play, it wont come my way...and honestly, i am probably playing badly now....Probably time to stop and relax, and come back tonite and play tournaments....since i have had a great deal of success in them in the past....

I lost my previous prop bet as well....didnt update bc i was ashamed to admit i wasn't losing any weight...:S

I am off to spa now, sauna...massage then chill and hopefully come back with lots of energy.

BTW, i did have a few good results in tournaments including one 4 figure score and a few smallish final tables...with me the best guys.

PROP BET and more poker

Blog by : obstante

Hello all,

Ever since we closed down the restaurant, i have spent more time playing poker. However, i managed to quickly gain 4-5 kilos....i have this bad habit of gaining and losing weight at incredibly fast pace. Therefore, i made a prop bet with my roommate. I need to lose 5k in the next month and keep it for 1 week, or else i Lobster dinner is on me. Ever since bet started, i managed to lose 1-2 kg, but without eating, which is never a good way to do it. Today i went back to normal (ate tons) and am scared to go look at the scale...but i will post updates so you guys can follow where i am....

I know, not a pretty exciting prop bet, but it is definately a challenge.

Pokerwise not much excitement. I took a shot 4 tablig 5/10 LHE and lost a bunch, but that doesnt make me sad as i think i really can beat the game. I have been palying poorly and the results are just due to my bad play. I lowered today a little and went to play some 2/4 with mixed results...but rakeback is definally a plus...i was up abt 500 total in PLO yesterday and down abt 1400 in LHE....but made abt 500 in rakebacks...so really nothing to be too worried abt...just gonna keep up the good work and see what happens.

Thanks for reading.

FIRST BLOG

Blog by : obstante

Hello everybody,

I am not a good writer at all, but i intend to use this blog to share my poker thoughts as well as life experiences. First things first. I have been grinding on 3/6 limit on classic poker. Games are usually tougher in these smaller sites, however after 100% (or close to it) rakeback, that holds no longer true. Even then, you do find your occasional regular donks. This following hand is a prime example of what i mean: Check out the turn action...

Dealt to obstante [Jd Ks]
obstante: raises $6
Homka: raises $9
Keatyboy: folds
Kate55: folds
Daidp1712: calls $7.50
Darkevil: folds
obstante: calls $3
----- FLOP ----- [2c Js Kd]
Daidp1712: checks
obstante: checks
Homka: bets $3
Daidp1712: calls $3
obstante: raises $6

----- RIVER ----- [2c Js Kd Kh][Ts]
----- SHOW DOWN -----
obstante: shows [Jd Ks] (A Full House, Kings full of Jacks)
Homka: shows [Jh Jc] (A Full House, Jacks full of Kings)
obstante collected $305 from Main pot

For a whooping 51 big bets...SHIIIIP IT!!!!

As for life, i have finally sold my restaurant. I am glad to be back to poker... At least i can say i tried running something "meaningful"...but yeah...for those who think poker is stressfull....try running a restaurant, and u will understand why i am back to poker.

In future blogs, i will start discussing some poker thoughts and strategies, which i think may be helpful to everyone.

For now, i will keep enjoying my grinding on limits tables.

Peace

Patrick
