I've been a member since 2008 and now it is time to move on and leave poker and this community for good. I've funded the things I wanted to fund with poker and I am now studying at my last semester at Uni. I am grateful for the knowledge and contacts made here and I wish everyone the best of luck in the future!

Thank you for all the contribution.

Sincerely yours,

Martin

I'm not gonna call it poker anymore.

Poker definetely belongs on the CV. I know two persons with IQ measured over 130 who gave it a seroius go and doesn't beat it. Im not saying all poker players have IQ over 130, im just saying that some people with IQ 130 doesnt have the patience or emotional control to handle the brutality of poker.

To bet it long term a combined set of skills and hard work has to be required. However, poker has a bad reputation and needs to be rebdranded. A lot of people does not respect poker players, because they've read in the news that poker players are degenerate gamblers. Since they only know the shalllow surface of what it means, they have no idea how much it takes.

This is kind of silly, because if you beat the game for five years and in some cases even combine it with a university education, girl friends and a social life you should've proven for good that you're far from a degen.

I might send out an CV and state that I made my living as an Equity Range Estimator during my education. After all, it is essentially the same.

Cheers.

Anyone with experience from working as a management consultant?

Blog by : NitramLetsGo

I'm very interested in it. I would like the challenge. Anyone with any input? Pros and/or cons based on your own experience will be highly appreciated.

Time for the evening run. Running at 11pm after a long day in front of the books has turned into a pleasure of mine. Funny how preferences change over time.

I think I will order The Will to Lead by Marwin Bower, founder of McKinsey.

Cheers,
Martin

They're so clueless.

Blog by : NitramLetsGo

Hi,

it surprises me how clueless many poker companies seem. They're out of touch from customer needs in a million ways and seem to think that some sites has bigger traffic than others due to some random factor.

Take William Hill for example. I decided to try out the site but the client was so full of "easy to fix" bugs that I decided to withdraw. They seem unfamiliar with the idea of a lobby customized to individual costumer needs and/or wants (like choosing fonts and colors). The client keeps "forgetting" things like "Do not show this message again" and the betting windows freezes regulary because of some silly promotion informing you that you lifted 3 euro from some promotion. This information always pops up on your primary monitor as well, which makes it even less optimal since I like to play on my bigger secondary monitor. Loosing 200 euro because of timing out due to a frozen betting window is not OK. They also seem to have forgotten to install a time bank which is frustrating.

It also surprised me how hard it was to set up with Holdem Manager compared to other sites. Holdem Manager is probably the most important poker complement on the market and failing to "cooperate" with them code wise could probably prove to be a costly move considering how easy it is to set up on the sites more in touch with reality.

The cash out is really slow as well, which just reinforces the negative experience. I cashed out on Saturday and still haven't received anything.

Sorry about all the negativity, but I wanted to highlight this phenomena.

What that we learned from poker might give us an edge in the business world?

Blog by : NitramLetsGo

Poker players usually have a bad image as a result of myths fueled by many negative stories in the media portraying aliented young boys and degenerated fathers. Anyway, the modern professional poker player is often a young ambitious man with great diciplines and high emotional maturity.

As a result of the emotional roller coaster and the individual tough learning school many poker players goes through we should gain an edge and experience in some areas that could benefit us later on. What could those be?

So i just filed an important application.

I just filed an important application that hopefully will result in four interviews with interesting companies. This brings a few things into my mind:

* I see the end of my life as a student coming closer.
* I see the end of my life as making my living from playing poker coming closer (I will quit the very same day I start a normal job). Not because I don't like the game, but because I won't have time to play it. As it is now I study on 150% pace and barely have time to play at all and once I start at "a real job" I want to be able to focus on that to 110%.

All in all I am obviously very grateful for the opportunities poker has provided me with and hopefully I will make it to Harvard this summer. That would be a great final gift from this game to me. :)

Case distrubution tomorrow, presentation at Friday. I will aim to get two hours of poker in on Friday afternoon. "School is very important" (quiz:Which movie does the last sentence come from")

Cheers

Situations that play themselves....

....tends to be allowed to subtract to much energy from many players. Who cares if you're on a downswing due to set ups with unavoidable outcomes. Those situations are a zero-sum game anyway and will what really matters is what happens inbetween.

Moving to a new flat in 36 hours. Ship!

Poker player attributes and leadership attributes has something in common.

Blog by : NitramLetsGo

Yukl (2002) points to the following prerequisties when determing leadership effectiveness (Jackson and Parry 2008).

Effective leaders has a high internal locus of control, which means that the person beleives that results/events are determined by their own action.

- So does winning poker players, whereas loosing players blame bad luck, doomswitches, stupid fishes making wrong plays and what not!

Effective leaders require a high degree of emotional maturiry and stability, the leader can monitor his emotional state and will be aware of its strengths and weaknesses.

- So does winning players, whereas loosing players tilt their winnings away.

Leaders has a high socialized motivation which means that they derive fulfillment and enjoyment from influencing people and events for the benefit of others and not just themselves.

-So does many winning poker players. Many times I've been asked why people share their knowledge "for free" when it improves other. Ofc there is a egoistic aspect to it but still.

I will get something special 100 times this year.

Assuming I play 500k 6-handed hands this year I will be dealt KK vs AA around 100 times. I might just as well accept it and stop whining about it when it happens.
