The BEST...

0

So yesterday, I took Goodfella to see his jewelry guy. He was going to pick up "the ring". We walked into the guy's place and the ring was sitting right up front on display. I don't know much about engagement rings but this thing was straight BLING! We both just looked at each other like this..Surprised! In his head, he was probably thinking Money mouth! Anway, the ring is siiiiick.

I've known Goodfella for like 7 or 8 years and he's been a robot for much of it. He never really shows much emotion and is actually unhuman like (I don't mean that in a bad way..its what makes him a great poker player). In 8 years of living together, a business partnership, and a brother like friendship, I don't think we've ever had a heart to heart talk. Mainly because I bottle up all of my emotions and because I don't know if he actually has any. LOL. Yesterday for the hour or so after he saw the ring, I witnessed something that I never thought I would ever see. Goodfella was actually human for a bit. He was so excited and nervous at the same time. We talked about when, where, and how he was going to ask her. We talked about whether he was going to get down on one knee.. all that stuff. I was super excited for him. Apart from our close friendship, his girlfriend I consider a sister! I love her a ton. I adore her...she's the absolute best! On the way back from picking up the ring, we had a 1 minute conversation that will probably be our first and only heart to heart for the rest of our lives. I told him how he hit the jackpot of life and that he should never forget how amazing she is. It was quick. It was awkward. But most of all, it was necessary! He nodded with a smile.

Two hours after I dropped him off at home, they called me on Skype and broke the news officially! Also, they told me that I would be the best man. So there's a bit of a story behind that. About a year ago, I randomly had a thought one day. I knew that marriage time would be coming soon for them and I wondered if I would be best man. His brother Rob chose to have Goodfella and his younger brother Adam as ushers while his best friend was the best man. So..I figured I had a ton of outs to make best man. Also, I've been there for most of their adult relationship and when I really started thinking about it...I deserved it! LOL. So when they came to visit last year, on the way back from a tournament, I explained that I thought the job should be mine. For the last year, that mutherfukker has been keeping me in limbo about the whole thing. He kept saying he had a lot of stuff to consider and that I wasn't a shoe in. Honestly, I actually started believing it! I've basically lobbied for the last couple of months and have explained to his family and friends why the job should be mine. They all agreed. So, we're on the way back from picking up the ring, we're having a heart to heart, we're talking about ushers and brides mates. I'm just waiting for him to tell me I'm the best man. Not a ga'damn word! I guess you can't ask someone to be the best man until she says "yes".

Anyway, I'm super excited about being the best man at their wedding. I've been researching best man stuff for a while now and already have a general idea of how my speech will go. I have a year to plan. They've chosen to do a destination wedding towards August of 2011. Its gonna be amazing and I can't wait. Until then, I'll be doing my thing and planning one hell of a Bachelor party! Ship it..I'm gonna be the best "Best Man" ever...

Congrats to both of you.. not only do I love you, I like you to death!

Here are some picks of me and the future bride and groom...
