Y2008

Fresh off a solid $600 win in 2 days at 1/2NL at the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, I've decided 2008 is the year I finally get my act together with poker. Those 2 days at the taj boosted my confidence like you wouldnt believe and I followed it up with a 6 buyin streak at 25nl on stars the next week. I'm going to start posting my blog and keeping a journal throughout the year and hopefully turn my $500~ roll on stars into something robusto by playing within my roll.

Some hands for discussion/review:

pretty standard, I think. Called preflop purely for set purposes and I got lucky. Kind of wished I made a larger bet like $13 on turn looking back because the Ace could have hit a lot hands and I should have been trying to maximize value out of the low limit passive calling stations I'm likely to be up against.

not sure why I called this flop bet. Pretty obvious looking back I was drawing dead or to at best a chop. Come on, man. He has you if he's 3betting preflop! I need to learn to get out of situations like this before they start and I'm on my way to busto town.

TheD83 guy was 77/6 over 150 hands and was up about a buyin in a half on me from cracking my AA and catching a better flush. He was a weak passive maniac that would bet the most retarded shit and somehow make it on the end. I didnt mind drawing to the gutter here because I knew if I hit he was coming along the whole way. This hand brings up a good point about trying to squeeze money out of someone. I feel like if I raised to something more like $20 he would have called.

There was a hand last year at the Aussie Millions between Gus Hansen and gobboboy once they were headsup where Gobbo had Gus covered. Gus turned top pair after gobbo flopped what was top pair, Gus pushed, and gobbo apparently beat gus into the pot thinking the tournament was his at that point and Gus ended up doubling and eventually winning. I could see how gobbo would get a little anxious against Gus, who was obviously more experienced. Great play and recognition of a spot to double by Gus using gobbo's "greed" against him if you understand what I mean.
