August!

So August has been great thus, though I would like to forget about today. I just ran horrible, then felt depressed, then probably dumped $100+ more than I should have feeling sorry for myself. I quit probably an hour after I should have. :/

As you can see I ran pretty well at 50 nl and played great, and then ran volatile at 100 nl and tilted some. I really like 6 tabling Rush, and I think it works best for me. The problem is that it forces me to play two different limits at one time, assuming I stick with FR for consistency. Anyway, this can obviously be very frustrating/tilt-inducing when you run horrible at the higher limit.. I might just throw in some regular FR 50 nl tables to eliminate this issue, and just completely forget about 100nl for the time being... idk.

I think this could be a great month for me... potentially a 5k month. This would be huge as I rebuilding my roll over the next several months. The biggest issues for me moving forward will be putting in as many hours of TILTLESS poker as reasonably possible. The "tiltless" part will certainly be the most difficult. Nonetheless, the more solidified my results at each respective limit get, the more confidence I gain, and the less tilt-prone I think I am. Here's to a great next couple of days!

New Month, New Possibilities

Blog by : llGotPhshll

So July is wrapping up, thank god. I'm anxious for August and the opportunity to mentally reset. I failed miserably at sticking to my previous guidelines, and quickly jumped back in to other games. I guess in trying to rebuild a roll I've taken more interest in rush poker, especially considering some of the results that others have posted. I see people, with significant work obv, grinding out 100 buyins in a month. This is something I would never be able to accomplish playing 6max, especially considering I rarely more than 4-tables and enjoy closely monitoring game flow/etc. So anyway, after dabbling a little here and there, I'm going to start August off multi-tabling 50$ Rush, mostly full ring, and see how this manages. I would like to stick to this for at least two weeks. Hopefully I can use this as an opportunity to slowly rebuild a bankroll and then maybe move back up in stakes, or switch over to games I enjoy playing more (short handed, etc). I hope to have some good results and thoughts to post in the coming weeks.

ITT We share our RUSH WEEK plunders!

RUSH Week NL:

RUSH Week PLO:

Indeed it has been a delightful week of RUSH poker on tha FTP!! Ship that $250 ASAP!

While it's obvious I suck at RUSH, I decided to give it a go for a week and scoop up the free promotion moneys. Obviously it didn't work out to well. I also chose to venture into PLO with very, very limited experience, and the variance just laid me out. I actually feel decent about my PLO game now (feel I've improved a lot), but I'm gonna have to set those aspirations aside for the moment because I just don't have the roll for it. For now, its back to the no limit 6maxsss.

Nonetheless, I have a few thoughts on RUSH poker that I'd like to share:

1) It's a very innovative approach to the game, that I think has the greatest strength in full ring implementation (where game flow/etc have little/no impact on play). I think it could change online tournaments significantly, and for the better, as it can greatly speed things up.

2) In the current FR state, there seems to be 3 general classes of players: Fish, Super nits, and smart, aggro position "specialists" (if you will). The games mostly consist of the second and third groups, w/ an emphasis on the nits who likely play for rakeback.

3) The majority of potential profits come from exploitation of these "super nits" who, in many instances, play like 7% vpip. Extensive note taking is crucial, mostly recognizing who is easily pushed around (3bet, etc) and who is 4bet bluff capable (typically cutoff vs button in my experience).

4) Position is the biggest element. I rarely, if ever, use the "quick fold" option in late position, and will almost always open and scoop if it's folded around to me. Surprisingly, raising from the SB can be quite profitable as well, as many many super nits don't defend or 3bet in BVB (blind vs blind) sitiuations as they should.

I think these points generally summarize my thoughts. As I am clearly crushing RUSH poker, I'd suggest you write them down (lmao).

I think I'm now going to try refocusing my attention on 100NL 6max for the next week, and try to game select decent and put in ~ 40hrs. I'll try to outline myself some short term goals here, as maybe that'll help keep me on track. I'll start a bit tonight probably.

Week Goals (7/19 - 7/25):

1) Play 40+ hrs of 6max 100NL (max).
2) Play 4 tables max.
3) Focus on game selection and tilt control.

That's really it for me.

It's been a LONG time ..

Blog by : llGotPhshll

This is my first entry after an extensive "blogging hiatus". I'm a recent college graduate (Purdue) who's played off/on for several years, but just recently on a more full-time schedule. By any extent of the imagination, I've been a true degen over the years, and have gone from a small fortune to broke more times than it's worth mentioning. My regular game has always been 6-max NL, ranging in stakes from 100-400 NL depending on my means. You can get a glimps of my roller coaster career below, though, as you might imagine, PTR is missing a TON of hands...

http://www.pokertableratings.com/fulltilt-player-search/llgotphshll

In the past I've played mainly for side cash during college. Poker payed for Heineken, sports betting, road trips, spring break, etc, and covered my limited bills. Naturally, going broke was never a significant issue, as I had few responsibilities and could thus take inflated risks regularly. These inflated risks included drunk heads up sessions at 25/50 NL. I recall one night winning like 13k or something. I think my roll was like 3 or 4k at the time! Naturally, this habit didn't end well :/

Moving forward, after graduation I went out to Vegas for over a month and played mostly live. After realizing how fucking lame/boring that was, I decided to focus w/ online play. Soon after (bout 2 weeks ago) I came out to west LA to room w/ another player w/ a similar mindset and focus.

I'm glad to be off the strip and I'm loving the weather out here, as well as the experience. Two months ago when I set out for Vegas I had two real goals in mind. I wanted to really focus on my game, put in the hours, and move up the ladder asap, and I also wanted to travel around a bit and meet various people. While I've thus failed miserably w/ financial results, I've had the opportunity to room w/ several poker players and live a very open-ended lifestyle, doing things when and as I please. I've never been a big buff for the traditional 9 to 5, and I love scheduling my own hours, sleeping when I please, waking when I please, etc, etc.

Anyway, I hope to use this blog to post my thoughts and results concerning poker and my lifestyle. I think it'll be mainly a benefit to me, as it'll give me a chance to get my thoughts out in the open and possibly set some personal goals, etc (yay, motivation!!). I promise, nonetheless, future posts will be much more intriguing than my life story/"who the fuck am I" post!
