bye for now?

Since my membership expires tomorrow I though I should do one last blog on CR. I started this blog on October 2, 2007 when I "went pro" - WOW time flies when you are having fun. I would happily keep it going but as a non-paying member I don't think I will have access to the blogging function Cry

With the Coaching forums removed and little to no new MSNL and HSNL content I can't justify the cost of CR membership. I hope this will change sometime down the road.

I want to thank Cardrunners for all the learning, oppurtunity to coach, and of course the community. While I will not be a paying memeber I still plan on being active in the forums.

I plan on bloggin more on KILLFATMIKE about poker, fitness, results of coaching with Sorel. And you can follow my twitter @killfatmike.

thanks for reading and good luck on the felt

I stil got it!

Blog by : ken aces

The past few months I have been playing less live poker. I have been staying close to home as we are in the process of selling our house and moving. This has given me the chance to do a bit more coaching and play some more online poker. I have been working on my online game a ton and I feel like I am back to where I was before Black Friday. Below are my results for the past few months. About half of these hands are full ring and the other half are 6-max.

I will be blogging more about poker, health, and mentoring from Sorel at KILLFATMIKE

Online Poker Gods still like me

Blog by : ken aces

I have been a bit burnt out after all the poker travel I have done post Black Friday. So, this past month I have been getting my online game back in order. I spent a ton of time learning how to get the most out of new software like HM2 and NCA. I feel like I am playing pretty well but I am still a little rusty playing a bunch of tables. It is also kind of funny how my graph shows me getting my chops back in the first 3K hands.

6-bet bluff in live poker?

Blog by : ken aces
0

I wanted to write about these hands because they were both non-standard and had lines I almost never take. I was playing 2/5 NLH at the Rio during the WSOP. There was an UTG straddle to $10 and we were 6 handed. Villain has 1K and I cover. He was new to the table. So the only read I had was he was young MTT guy as he had many 1K chips and tournament lammers.

I iso-raise the straddle to $45 holding AQo and get one caller. The Villian 3B squeezes to $135 from the button and it folds to me. I don't like calling 3Bs out of position without reads on deep stacks. I have also found that because I am over 40 the young guns who don't know me read my 4B range as KK+ which gives my tons of fold equity. I 4B to $300 and he snap 5Bs to $500 putting half his stack in the middle.

My plan had been to 4B/fold but after how quick he bet and a few other tells I was so sure he was bluffing. Now I should say that 95% of my live poker game is just about solid fundamental play. But from time to time I find a spot were I just trust my gut. So I 6B shove my AQo and he snap folds getting better than 2-1! I told my friend Billy about this hand and he said it was a 6-bet for value because villian should have no folding range. This is of course is true but on the felt I was so sure he was folding I am going with 6-bet bluff :)

I normaly don't show cards but I thought the tilt and image value was big enough so I tabled the AQ. The villian said nothing but moved to the seat on my immediate left and proceeded to raise 80% of hands for the next hour. I don't think I played one hand as I was card dead and of course out of position - until...

Villain straddles $10 UTG and gets five callers and I overlimp the field with KK in the BB because I was so sure the villain would raise. Villian raises to $60 and gets 2 callers and I limp re-raise from the BB. The Villain 4Bs and I 5B shove and he calls it off and mucks the river after I table my KK.

So in one session I did two things I have never done before in live poker - 6B bluff and L/RR from the big blind.

I think I made the final table in the Sorel Mizzi health challenge. I have been busy blogging about it here - KILLFATMIKE
