HU Hypers Update

I don't know if anyone even read my first post, but I have been taking up HU Hypers. So far, things have been going ok. I've been putting a large amount of time away from the tables, so my volume hasn't been stellar but I am moving toward my goal of putting in 1,000 games at the .75 buy-in level to see where I am at.

So, here are my results up through a little over 200 games:

216 $0.72 4.9% $7.17

It's a tiny sample, I know, but I feel like I am playing well so far. There's a lot of spew at this level and I know that many of my opponents are unaware of proper ranges for shoving/calling and calling 3-bet shoves or 3-bet shoving themselves.

Also, especially at the first level where the blinds are 10/20 and stacks are 500 (25BB), a lot of people play poorly post-flop. I feel my background playing 6-max NL helps here somewhat, especially when understanding when to go for value, when to be deceptive, and when to keep pots the proper size.

It's tempting to move up in levels, especially because I am polled for a few levels higher, but I would rather get a solid sample in now to make sure I can at least beat the lowest of games because this is all very new to me.

Learning a new game - HU Hypers Turbos

Blog by : joeaugie22

Learning a new game is a challenge that I really enjoy. I don't have any dreams of turning pro, mainly because I enjoy the field that I work in and I don't see that ever changing. However, I do still look at poker as a fun, profitable hobby. I really enjoy taking a small investment, and trying to see what I can do over a period of time with some hard work and grinding, even if my hourly is worse than bagging groceries at the local supermarket.
Since poker options in the US are limited, and the traffic for our options that do exist is very poor in comparison to PokerStars (sigh), I have decided to jump into HU Hypers on Lock. At the stakes I am starting at (.72 + .03 .... shut up I am learning for a cheap ass price :) ), there are always games running. Although I only plan on 1 tabling for the first 1,000 games, that volume can be quickly achieved as each game only lasts like 3.5 minutes. So, 3,500 minutes, or 58 odd hours of play is my goal. I am not setting a time frame for this because I find that I should only play when my mind is right and not try to force volume. Also, because I am learning, there needs to be time for studying, reviewing play etc. So roughly 15 hours a week is not going to be all play. Probably more like 8 of play and 7 of review, on average.
There's something exciting about a new start in a game. Because it's such small stakes, I'm not in it for the money, but rather the challenge. I know 1,000 games is not a significant sample in these. Looking through some Sharkscope regs who clean up at 3% ROI I can tell that 1,000 games is a candidate for breakeven or losses. However, I just want to point to a sample of this size, show my results, and move forward with some hand histories that I can learn from. I plan on updating weekly regarding my progress.
If there are any other aspiring HU Hyper players around, I'd love to talk some strat and share some hand histories. Good luck at the tables!
