October 09 Results

So was not a bad month for the amount i played. I think my biggest leak in poker is not putting in the hours. Its as simple as that. So my goal each week is to set a minimum of ten hours playing no matter what. I have one more coaching session left with schaffem and i will most likely continue coaching with him for at least a few more sessions. I started taking a few shots at 100nl and so far they have gone well. I am up a couple of buys in and i think theyre are plenty of big fish at this level that i can bumhunt while moving up. So here's my graph for Oct. I have more to write about but i have to go study for two tests. I am looking for a sweat partner for any 50nl -100nl players. PM me if you are interested.

Getting Some Coaching from Schaffem

Blog by : II-98-II
0

I had my first coaching session with Schaffem this past Thursday. I could see myself continuing coaching with him for quite a while after our coaching package is finished. Overall it went well and he was able to spot a few leaks which i know i have a lot of. Here are a few of them so far:

  • Table Selection - He told me a few ways to go about better table selecting. I am a firm believer that table selection and seat selection is one of the most important aspects of being a winning player. I just don't do it enough at 50nl because i felt that i was capable of beating alot of regs at this level, but the truth of the matter is there are more regs then i thought that have much more experience that i do.
  • 3Bet Sizing - I think that a HUGE leak was when i was OOP and 3betting i would increase my 3bet size to encourage the villain to fold. What Schaffem pointed out was that my sizing is not going to have a huge affect on the calling frequency of my opponent. So therefore I am building a larger pot OOP which is fine with premium hands, but as a bluff it can put you in some very sticky situations if called. it also leaves you less room to maneuver and play poker post flop.
  • Getting to showdown - He pointed out that i was over-betting my marginal hands when i should be trying to get to showdown. I understand what he was trying to get across, but i think i still need alot more work on determining where i should be trying to get to showdown and where i should be charging them to draw out on me.

Some bad news i just had my worst downswing at 7bi's which i know is nothing blah blah, and it really doesn't bother me that much, but it prevented me from playing as much because i was scared my downswing would just continue. The thing that upset me was that alot of it was just because i was playing AWFUL. Ya i had some of your everyday coolers, but i would let those get to me, and then i would just go monkey aggro on the table to try and dig myself out of the hole.

Good news is I just had a few winning sessions and hopefully get back to break even for the month.

Goals for this week:
  • I'm going to try and watch Schaffems new series and maybe some nutedawg videos that i missed.
  • Play 8K hands

Although i have more to blog about I'm done for now so...

Trying out a new system for goals

Blog by : II-98-II
0

So this summer was a complete bust with poker. I wanted to play like 25k hands a month at least. I think i played that much during the whole summer. During the summer someone always wants to do something and since poker has no set time i have to play i would just say ok i will go do whatever there was to do and play later. I'm pretty upset with myself, but there is nothing i can do but move on and work harder.

What i want to do is implement a new goal system that i can stay more on top of. I want to play at 30k hands a month, but i also want to watch 4 vids a week. I will post each week or every other week which vids i plan on watching and how many hands i have played for the month.

I'm still currently playing 50nl and feel like i have a good edge on this limit. I have about 40BI's for 100nl and shall take a few more shots sometime in the future. I think i might wait to get to 50BI's and then take a 5-7 BI shot and if it doesnt go well just drop back down.

Here's my vid list for the following week:

  • Btowsend I like to move it move it part 3
  • Vitalmyths new leakfinder
  • Kush's Leakfinder part one
  • Wooz suck my 3 bet

So hopefully since i am back to a schedule with school i will be to stick to my goals this time.

Getting Coaching Makes You Run AMAZING!!!!

Blog by : II-98-II

So i decided to jump on the band wagon and got BrendanK as a coach. He sweated me for my second session of 50nl. Overall the session went really well and I learned a great deal in only an hour. I thought that my preflop play was at least ok, turns out its not. Brendan made me realize how +EV it is to open my range from the CO and button. I was playing at about 19/15 now I am runnint about 23/20 ish. I felt like i knew enough about poker to beat these limits, but getting just that little bit of coaching really made things click and made some concepts make sense. Anyways i have only played a little over 10 sessions since our first coaching session last week and I've been running extremely hot (of course running a little over EV does help). Here is a graph. I know its a really small sample size but who cares

Anyways finally making some money instead of grinding out 10nl has given me alot more motivation to play and to study the game which is something I REALLY lacked a few weeks ago. Also Brendan does discounts for groups and what not so if anyone is thinking about getting a coach and plays 50nl let me know and we can set something up with him, or if you just want to do a sweat session hit me up.

Funny Link for this post is a Ref for a boxing match messing a boxer up enjoy

June Recap

Blog by : II-98-II
0

June ended up not being as great as expected. I didn't put in anywhere close to the hands i wanted to. I played 13k hands at 10nl and won about 20BI. I played 5k hands at 25nl and lost 3BI. I think overall I played alright at 25nl i tilted one night and lost a few buy ins. I think my biggest leak that i have realized so far is stacking off too light preflop, mostly with QQ or AK. I think most people at these levels do not 4bet with anything less than QQ and normally not AQ either with a full stack. So normally with these two hands i am at best a coin flip, but normally behind. Anyways here is my june graph: (I started playing 25nl at about 12500 hands)

I think i set my first month's goals too high and i did not even come close to reaching them. My June goals are:

  • Get a coach
  • Play 40k hands
  • Do more sweat sessions (pm if you are interested)
  • Watch at least 3vids a week
  • Get gold star status on PS
  • Play 10k PLO (also watch some PLO vids)
Here is my funny link for this post its kinda long but hilarious!!!

New Poker Group

Blog by : II-98-II
0

Hey Guys and Gals,

I just wanted to let everyone know that myself, pokerzenmaster, and alpallstar20 will be starting a new micro group starting June 1st. I do not know either of the other players very well just a little chat through pm's, but my understanding is, we will all be starting around 10nl -25nl and plan on crushing these stakes and moving up the ladder very fast. We have not set up anything official but most likely we will be doing sweats, hand history reviews, and i am hoping every week one member of the group will make a video of themselves playing and we can review it together.

I plan on dedicating my entire summer to poker and learning everything i possibly can. This last month while i was trying to study for finals all i could think about was poker and it was very distracting. I actually banned myself from pokerstars until my final exams are over which turned out to be a really good decision. Anyways i would like to invite any CR members that are interested in joining a group to PM me. Right now i believe we just have NLH 6max and HU, but all players of all games are welcome. So If you are a SSNL player i urge you to join if you are serious about moving up!

Everytime i post a blog I'm going to try and post something funny or inspirational so even if my blogs sucks you still get something out of it. So here is a youtube clip

www.youtube.com/watch

Edit: We now have a 50nl - 100nl player so its not just micros

New C/R name / Summertime

Blog by : II-98-II
0

So i just created a new name for cardrunners. Reason being i created the name i was using for my dad i ended up using the account. Anyhow i was not allowed to change my name and had to create a whole new account, so ended up paying about $120 to change my name. Owell

A little Intro about myself:

  • 21 years old
  • Live in Delaware
  • I obtained my poker name "98" from the live games i played in. A few people said i looked like i should be in 98 degrees and then the nickname kinda of just stuck.
  • Attend the university of Delaware and pursuing a degree in accounting/finance
  • Used to be a sit and go player
  • Love movies and video games
  • Part time poker dealer
  • Favorite CR videos are from Citizenwind so far. He is an awesome poet and poker player
I currently play 10nl/25nl, but i believe that i can beat the 50nl maybe even 100nl, but i am a huge Nit. I joined C/R about six months ago and it has revolutionized the way i view poker. I plan on playing full time this summer once classes aer out in two weeks and will hopefully be playing 100nl or higher by the end of the summer.

Goals for the summer:
  • Play 30+ hours a week
  • Play at least 20k hands at each level
  • Have a min of 50BI's before taking shots at the next level
  • I will be looking for a possible long term coach over the summer
  • Find someone to do multiple review sessions and sweat sessions a week (pm if your are interested)
  • Watch a CR video or review my sessions at least 5 times a week
  • Post in forums and blog about once a week
  • Have more views of my blog than Brian Townsend
The new Xmen movie kinda sucked but Daniel Negreanu had a cameo in it which i found hilarious. Its on youtube.

Good Luck All,

-Justin
