What I've been up to

Damn, updating this blog frequently is much more work than I expected. That's probably because of all the exams and random errands I had to do. The good news is that it's all over until March 3rd!

With some extra time in my hands, I plan on getting an In-Dash navigation system for my 2008 Nissan Altima. I'm trying to look for one of the best navigation system out there (that hopefully comes with a rear-view camera & an IPod Integrator that goes into my Glove box . My threshold on how much I'm going to spend on the equipment is going to be ~$1500 unless I absolutely love what 'm getting. However, I haven't done my research on this and suggestions on what to get would be great. I'm also planning on getting a new cell phone and suggestions for that would be great too. Requirement for my cell phone is that it has to look very cool and have a qwerty. An added bonus for the cell phone would be if it has a touch screen.

Poker: Below is the results I had since Saturday.

The action has been crazy good for me. I know I was running super hot, and that I had to cool down at some point. It happened when I faced a villain who bought in for 100bb and built up a stack to 690bb. However, I didn't quit him since he wasn't a good player at all and of course after grinding 600 hands against him, I took back all my money + $60 of his. (Rake took $40 off the table!). There wasn't any super interesting hands during our session. He built up his stack through hitting pairs all day all night, and many times I decided to try to bluff anyways.

However that doesn't mean that I'm not going to leave you guys without hands!

The river by all means was a value-bet. This was early on in the match, but villain showed many fish like tendency for me to justify that a shove was +EV since his line signifies many weaker hands than mine. Hands that I was looking to be called on was any diamond and also sometimes Ax. However, that is to not say my bet was good. In retrospect, I prefer betting half pot and folding to any further action. With this action, villain is much MORE likely to call me down and might even call with a pair of 7s or some worse junk. Unfortunately, it didn't go well.

This was the 2nd time villain l/minraise me out of 5 to 6 times I raised it up oop. When I got this board, I decided to go for a c/r since villains range does not consists of many 7s. When he called me, I still felt comfortable that he still didn't have a 7 and put his range as any pair, flush draws, and maybe even gutshots or overs. By shoving, I am forcing so many of these hands to fold that I felt the shove is +EV as villain would be scared that I am going to have a 7 with the way I played it.

Well that is it, hopefully I can update more frequently with what's been happening.

Getting a BLOG Started

Blog by : idcimallin

My name is Kenny, and I am 19 years old. I go to one of the colleges on the Fenway, MCPHS. I am a 2nd year trying to become a pharmacist.

But who cares about that until you know about my poker skills right? I'll start off by saying that I play on FTP under the name aopoki. I play HU regularly at .5/1 and as of right now I'm avoiding people who I think are good. I moved up 2 weeks ago after grinding & basically pwning everyone at 25c/50c of HU for 2 months.

During this stretch I had at so many upswings, along with downswings. I had as big as a 23 buy in downswing (-$1200!). That was not mentally pleasing. So thankful that I had a huge upswing after that or else I would have probably permanately switch back to 6max (what I have been doing before HU). Which is not fun as it takes a lot of time to game select, while when playing HU, I feel like I have an edge against most opponents.

The main reasons why I am creating a blog is to make myself a better player overall & to keep me mentally check. I can do this by giving daily results about what I think of my play. This will help with me with not going on super tilt, as I have a big history of that. Maybe I'll talk about this if I find nothing to talk about, but basically I have a history of playing way over my head (one time I played one hand of $100/$200 with a short stack of ~$5K!). Although that hasn't happen since summer time, I would still like to keep me mentally check for the stakes I play at so I would have less chance of having a big downswing.

These might be selfish reasons of creating a blog, but I'm sure many people are like me. That's not to say I'm selfish as i think I am a very reasonable person & many times a generous person.

Well that should be a decent introduction. Hopefully this blog would be a fun & interesting read. I will be posting updates about my recent plays & also when I have time, I will be making a post about how I got to where I am today as I find it interesting & hopefully inspiring. I'll end by posting up a hand I played yesterday. It was the biggest pot I ever won in term of big blinds.

Things to note about that hand. It was a 753BB POT! I played it horribly. I should start by betting the flop, as we are super deep enough to stand a raise. I like my turn over bet, but when he c/doubled my over bet, I should've 3b him to $156 or something to give him room to shove hands like JJ,QQ & other junk as he was the type of player to do so.

Messed Up Day

Blog by : idcimallin

I had 5 hours of sleep today, and I felt like shit. I slept through my first class (Intro to Politics, lol). Stats was next, and I found out I got a 73 on an exam I took. I looked through my errors and found out that I made the most careless errors ever that cost like 17 points! An example would be that I solved and got an equation correct (Let's say 1.5 < x < 7). All I have to do now is to write down the given numbers for this problem that are between these numbers and what do I do? I write down all the numbers between those and also numbers like 16 & 19! It was definitely because of my lack of sleep that night. I only had ~2 hrs. Pretty wack. At least I got one of the highest scores in my orgo exam (105). The cool thing about this score is that it is better than my tutor who got a hundred. Pretty kick ass brag imo.

While finding all of this out, I was in a crappy and emo mood. It's weird since nothing in life went wrong yesterday, and I won $500! I'm pretty sure it was the lack of sleep. I was very down on myself and reevaluating life in a very negative way. The sad thing about my thoughts is that most of it is true (Don't want to reveal this incase my friends find out about this blog). This mood I was in hasn't happen for a long time as I've been somewhat happy recently. At least now it's gone, and I've caught up on a lot of school work!

Poker: Another great day in poker. +4 buyins. Things started off very slow as I slowly lost 2 buyins. However, somehow cards came my way again, and I was value betting like crazy! It was a very poker day as I am really satisfied with my plays I've been making.

-First hand on a person that is tagged as a fish for some reason. I don't know much about this person, but since he was tagged as a fish, I'm going to bet/fold the turn as fishes no matter what kind loves to call if they aren't going to raise.

-This was a very fun opponent to play with. After playing him for ten minutes, I noticed that this person is playing very straight forward. Calling with his marginal holdings and raising up his made hands. However, he was calling a lot of my 3bs. So of course I 3b AQo and I get a good flop, so I cbet. Once called, I really hated the turn and was going to c/f, however, luckily he checked, which signal to me that his hand is only one pair. The 9 on the river completed some 2 pairs + 99, but I strongly felt I had to best hand, so I bet and get nicely paid off.

-This is probably a hand you guys think is standard, it is, but I thought it was funny. This is the same villian in the previous hand. We've been playing for quite a bit now, and it was me pretty much dominating him by raising 95% of my btns + cbetting all flops & even 2nd barrelling a ton since he stopped 3b + raising flops after I showed aggression back on the times he did raise me. He did however adjust by c/c with top pairs, so I was more selective with my 2nd barrels. On this hand, I hit the nuts and I fired my std cbet size. Note that I was one tabling and he hasn't raised my btn for quite a while, so when he c/r me, I accidently CiB, and he shipped it! I was cracking up since the only time he raised me, he walked right into the nuts!

-And finally, it's always nice to win coinflips :)
