Motivation to grind and study

Blog by : fisherman112

Lately I have been lacking both motivation to study and play poker. I´m trying to get my studies done to get a bachelor degree in computer science. I only lack a few courses and it´s taken me too long time to get it done.

So the other day I started to study about how to get things done in general. The thing is I have a lot of dreams and stuff I want to do and I would really like to be an person with a lot of courage that just gets things done or goals reached whatever you want to call it. So I stumbled over a book called how to get things done fast. The writer talks quite a bit about the business world that people in the old days 50s 60s just moved around stuff in work and didn't need to plan much but nowadays people really need to be able to manage themselves. Anyway this dude recommends that you review whatever small goals you have on a weekly basis it´s not an easy habit to get into. He basically says that if you have things idling in your brain its taking up brainpower and you need to get it written down to note taking system and get it done. This is easier said than done but I feel like a poker player / student it´s so easy to get disconnected from the real world and not be living "right now".

It has really been bothering me quite a time that I have not finished of my studies yet so my goals is now to get all these smaller things done and then I can start to pick on my bigger goals in life. I have written down some short term and long term goals. I really hope this weekly review is going to help me to stay focused and on track with my goals. One of my goals is also to start to play 2/4 by end of this year. I'm such a badddd grinder I only get in like 15k hands a month or so and I need at least 30k hands. So I'm going to write down how much I have grinded each day to help me keep track of this.

There is a saying: If you don´t plan your time somebody else is going to do it for you. I think there is a lot of truth in that and I want to be the one that is in charge of my own time and goal planning so I better step up my actions.

Studied some poker Math

Blog by : fisherman112

So I have studied some poker math and played some more HU and 6-max.

I feel like my 6-max game is a bit of at the momment but ive running been farly bad also but its def a combination. Todays hu playng was a real rollercoaster I were down about 4-5 bi or something close to that and then ended up 2 bi I think. I dont really look exactly in PT mabye i should know the exact amount...

I really feel like if you want to become a world class poker player you have to know your math inside out and live inside pokerstove more less. IF you are creative enough and capable of putting your opponents on specific hand range and act according to how the board changes on later streets you have alot to work on.

I think there is alot to be said about turn aggression also. On alot of boards you will probably be Ev+ just C/R or shoving 10 outs hands+ against the correct villains and in the correct situation. But just calculating what is ev+ and then applaying it to your game would take years of work and then you will just cover a few situations and only "theoretical" situations.

Comming week i have alot of study bs so will not have much time to play poker :-( wish i could play more poker. Its strange even if im trying to recover from a huge downswing of half my roll i cant wait to play poker every morning i wake up no matter if i won or lost the day before. I cant get enough of playing poker. Kinda strange but thats how it goes.

All for now.

Still Running like crap but what can you do..... Well ive not maybe played my best either but its sick how bad u can run in poker and how sick variance can be. This has really to stop. I really love much to play poker and almost never have taken breaks. But now I am going to take a break for at least a weak.

The biggest mistake i did were when i took a stab at 2/4 NL with 15k which is fair but lost 8bi in one session.... and after that i have a sick downswing playing 1/2 for about 20bi or so..... If i would have stopped @ 5bi stab which was my plan i would have "saved" 6bi for NL200 play... Whatever you do when you move up be sure to move down in time i would recommend only 5bi stab at time... Things can get alot more ugglier than you would think if you happen to get in a unlucky situation.

Im gonna review my hands now and study the game harder than ever without playing, just analysing hands and pokerstoving and ev calculating. The games are getting harder and harder and you really need to be on top of your game in every single aspect.... I have tried to start to workout but ive never really succeded in tha department only for a few days... But that is gonna change too....

I think working out regulary will have a huge inpact on any players game + its healty too. Look at the top players in the world. PA, SB, Benyamine, Hansen Doyle etc. They have all been into sports or working out hard. PA was a tennis player and also Hansen i think. Benyamine was a top snooker player in France before poker. Doyle played basketball in early age. Yeah you have to be good at poker to do big success but i think alot of their success has to do with that they actually have been "working out" in one or other way in regular basis in some points of their carrier or still.

not much poker goin on

Blog by : fisherman112

Not much going on pokerwise for me I have a lot studies to do. I hope to graduate in computer science this summer so I have to write my thesis and I suspect that's gonna take most my time this half year to come. Anyway I still try to put in some hands in 1/2 NLHU grinding.

I don't know if I am good at tilting ppl or if they are just that bad or they do get frustrated with aggression. The last days ive had one guy shove over my 4bet with AK for like 130bb with K2of LOL. And one other guy shoved 100bb over my 4bet with AKs. Since I Have DS I lost both hands but I am still up a bit over the past days. And as long as you play EV+ things will be fine. That's all

So im playing but still not running well in NL HU i think im About break even or so for the last few days... But thats how it goes when you are on a downswing...

But I think I'm turning into a low stakes TexasLimitKing!! Ty Schneids for all the excellent limit videos without them I would not have a clue how to play limit decently.

Anyway im sick about this hand. I call here like 99% of the time but u all know what downswing does for u I fit and fold even if im easilly prised in here...

But even the best in the world does misstakes sometimes :-) LOL well im not maybe the best but.... yeah what ever :)

I am the worst @ updating my blog!

Blog by : fisherman112

I had a good first December so I decided to move up to 2/4 in end of December. I went directly on a 8bi downswing at 2/4 and then about 8 buyin downswing at 1 / 2 nl hu and 6 buyin downswing at 1 / 2 PLO. So all in all I lost almost half of my 15k roll. So no fun end of 2007 and start of 2008.

Anyway I think I getting decent at playing heads up so 2008 I going to focus on playing NL HU and PLO HU. I am not the type of grinder that plays sick amount of hands a day. So I think HU suits me much better.

Today I could book some winning session after 4-5 days of losses I made about 1bi in PLO 0.5/1 hu and 3bi in 1 / 2 NL HU.

I could have played a bit more but I just wanted to book a win. Anyway 2008 I want to start from a clean slide and I want to focus on my HU game and getting my studies done. In end of 2008 beginning of 2009 I hope to take my first stabs at 5/10. Let's see if I can success. I believe in my NL HU game and I think I mostly play very well. The only downside right now is that I don't play enough hands I just don't feel like playing 2 hours in a row but I try to put in a few shorter session during the day.

That's all for now sorry for no updates if anyone reads my blogg anywayJ

Cheers

Not been feeling like blogging in a while

Blog by : fisherman112

I Rarely play donkaments but the other day I Played a 150K Tourney on Mansion and I ended up 21st out of 750 entrants so that's quite nice. It´s very rare that I play donkaments but 1/4 of my br is coming out of donkament winnings! I don't really know what to think about that.

I got quite unfortunate in one key hand that took about 70% of my stack. With about 25 left One guy shoved mid poss I had KK in BB obv snapp call he got A9s and on turn he completed the flush. After that I had just to push almost any hand I had just 4-5 blinds left and I could not double up so I busted with my 109of against AKof.

Anyway I feel like my 6-max game is really getting better and better and that feels good.

Don't know what to do

I told myself a few weeks ago when I make my next 2k I will buy a fat ass tv and Xbox360. With the donkament win and some nl200 grinding I reached 2k the other day. So now I should go shopping but I don't really feel like that. If I can pickup 2K more or so I am ready to take a shot at 2/4nl and that would be awesome. So I think im going still to stick to my old tiny tv and no Xbox.

thats all this time.

Poor Play still winning

Blog by : fisherman112

This first dude I played Hu was very aggro and did C/R me on 3flops in a row. So I made a very very thin C/R AI. Quite bad play to c/r that flop could have hit him very hard and he does not have much FE left after having half stack in already. After a while he quit me when I got some back from him.

www.pokerihanska.com/?h=850229021

Same here this guy did C/R me a ton of flops and to me it looked like he wanted to bluf that board cuz it's a good board to bluff but he actually had a hand. But it's a coin flip so my situation could have been much worse.

www.pokerihanska.com/?h=547700471

I did consider quitting after these two brutal plays but I did continue.

So after a while I got QQ and He 4bet me. To me this was a no brainer AI considering my bad image.

www.pokerihanska.com/?h=097877931

And I was right...

Some PLO.

www.pokerihanska.com/?h=333365661

Quite short session interesting hand he stacks of with.

So all in all I ended up 30$ in HU and 1BI in PLO. Not bad considering how I played HU.

That's all for now

Some nice sessions

Blog by : fisherman112

I had a very nice session today. 1.5 Bi+ in PLO and 4BI+ in NLhu

This NL hu match was really fun and super aggro. The very first hand.

www.pokerihanska.com/?h=358931731

So standard 3bet with 1010 I get 4bet and I am thinking for a while and get it in. I find that quite alot of players tries to take control of the hu match directly so i figured my 1010 could be good most of the time. So now i had him tilted right from the very first hand. Awsome!

www.pokerihanska.com/?h=473561981">http://www.pokerihanska.com/?h=473561981">www.pokerihanska.com/?h=473561981

So time for next AI preflop lol. Very very aggro player so AI with AK is a no brainer. I run guut

www.pokerihanska.com/?h=821356271

Im running like god. This is quite a intresting hand. I Really wanted it to look like I am on a big time bluff and it worked out splendid. I figured quite fast that I were up against a thinking player and Alot of players like to C/r bluff flushes on flop so i figured he would not fold. And on this board it could likely be that he hit a straight draw or something like that. So I Pot turn so it looks like im still bluffing and finally shove river. Very very lite call by him though.

this is all for now

Edit:

I´ve had one more nice session today.

www.pokerihanska.com/?h=348995171

What can I say! Donators are always welcome. I really tried hard to not scare the fish away he was very very loose about vpip50. So some unconventional play but It worked out.

www.pokerihanska.com/?h=035464441

This Hand is a bit more tricky. Ive only played a few hands on this table he seemed a bit loose but he also could only had a good run of cards. Anyway standard to river. I were feeling that i always certanly have the best hand but if i value raise im only going to get called by better hand. So im in middle of no mans land. Anyway I ended up just calling and he had KQof. So in end it was a nice result.

www.pokerihanska.com/?h=790769241

Not much to say here a cooler for him. The money is getting in here no matter what. What a great turn card! I were just praying he would have a flush on river and so he did.

This Month has started out very very good Im up almost 1K last 24h and thats mainly from nl100 hu and PLO100 and 400$ from 1/2 NL

Im shoothing for 4K this month hope I can achieve that.

All for now.

some crazy action

Blog by : fisherman112

So I guess I am going to start to blog too. My name Is Matts and I usually play 1 / 2 NL 6-max and 0.5 / 1 NL Hu and 0.5/1 PLO.

I have had some real rough session lately against some super fish vpip 50-60 type of guys. When you are on DS it's really frustrating to play against those guys I've been minraised a lot on flops.

Some of the crazy hands I've played recent days.

www.pokerhand.org/?1539940

This guy has been playing very very loose about vpip 60. He has 3bet me about 5 times and showed down some very weak hands so now i was feeling that i had to go to war. Amazing call by him.

www.pokerhand.org/?1539958

This is just beyond sick..... super super loose play by this same guy. I should have prolly folded river but hard to do it against suck super donk.

I have had really troubles adjusting to these super loose players. But ive not been really catching any hands either. Im on quite some bad streach in 1/2 NL now for 58k hands and its really fushtrating. Well ive not really been playing my best all the time either but I have to run huge below expectation too.

But Anyway I have started to play some hu this month and there im doing well. just played a few K hands yet though.
