Take it easy, and pay attention

Blog by : firemanx

So I have really feeled like playing poker today, and thas basicly what i did. I was a little squeezed on time tonight, but got in a fairly solid session. Made about a buyin tonight in 210 hands. I only played 2 tables, and payed close attention to my PA HUD, and took careful notes. I did get to videos in today, and felt they were good for helping with hand selection, and somethign i was starting to get away from is the importance of position. The two were Andrew;s 50 NL video, and the Brymaster video with Peachey chiming in. Also something i always tell people is this is a game a variance, and tonight i saw it first hand with it not happening to me. 2 hands i wasnt involved in, but both on the same table, and both to the same guy. Once he ran KK into QQ and the dude hit a Q on the flop. About 10-15 hands later he got all in with the nut flush vs a set, and the river paired. Not really that interesting, but when u hit a horriablly bad variance downswing its nice to see it doesnt just happen to you. Anyways goodluck to everyone on the tables.

Now normally after tonight it would be an ok night, but after the huge downswing ive been on I am just happy to finish a session in the green. Won about a buyin tonight. Nothing soecial, but like i said nothing helps the psyche better then a winning session. Anyways congrats to the CR team for the new deal.

The Amazing game of poker

Blog by : firemanx
0

Today I suffered another devastating session. So I decided to look over my goals I set @ the begining of the year, both personal and poker related. So as i scanned over them i relized most of my goals are going really well besides my poker goals. I have been on a 12 buyin downswing, and honestly it feels like im never going to get out of this downswing. So after mulling over what to do i decided to scan my PT database with a fine toothed comb. I have been playing good solid poker, but not catching any breaks. Ive flopped sets 3 times over the last week, got it all in, and had quads hit aginst me on the turn. Thats poker, and i just havn't been on the right side of variance.

I guess this probly just sounds like a bunch of babbling, but i was talking about poker with a fiend, and he was telling me how his family was telling him his personality was changing like he was bipolar. When he was winning he was a great guy, and when he was losing he was misreble. So i made a couple suggestions, and what not. This got me thinking though. Even though my poker game hasnt been going great ive staye don a very even keel personality wise. I think a lot of this contributes to the personal goals i set at the begining of the yr.

One of my goals was to jog everyday, and run the Walt Disney World half marathon in Jan of next yr. I usually play poker when i get home from work, and then go for a jog with my dog once it cools off in the early evening. This almost always clears my head. Also i have devoted at least an hour a night to look over, and study my investment portfolio. This helps me look at things in a since of its not a sprint its a marathon. I dont trade daily, but look for long term solid growth investments. So a 12 buying downswing over 2-3 weeks doesnt seem that big of a deal when I can remind myself daily that its long term we are looking at not just a couple weeks. Also I have been discussing more global and national events with different people, and in the long run of thinsg it makes you relize poker isnt everything. Anyways enough rambling and good luck to all.

tough end to a week

Blog by : firemanx

So this week was going good, but then monday arrived. An old friend showed up named VARIANCE. He was not very favorable to me on monday. Basiclly found 2 dream tables. There were the same 2 players sitting @ both tables, and both were playing a crazy style. 75/10 Thats when my Variance showed up, and beat me like a redheaded step child. Uusally if i drop 2 buyins in a session I will stop playing for awhile. These 2 tables were so juicy that i couldnt just stand up leave. I then lost with the following:

AA v 77

KK v 68os

JJ V 99

AA v K2

AK v KJs

Now you may say that i was just over playing big hands thru out the hands, but these 5 hands were ALL IN preflop. Not one was i any worst then a 4-1. Now back in the old days I would hav been pissed, or spiked a labtop or done something stupid. Now I just relize these IDIOTS are great as over the long run I will make a lot more off them then they will suck off of me. Anyways enough babblling. The numbers look like this:

Saw this today, and its one of the most inspirational speeches I have ever heard. If we all cant learn something from this there must be something wrong with us. You may have seen this before, but its something that is worth watching again. It is a little long, but you wont be disappointed.

Tough breaks last 2 days.

Blog by : firemanx

Plain and simple my good hands have been getting ridiculously coolered. Sets just losing on over pairs two or three times. Set vs runner-runner flush. Basicly been getting it in good, and suffering from variance not favoring me. I have kept composed, and am still up a little less then 2 buyins. Which isnt great, but the beats have been pretty bad. This hand here is probly the cumulation of whats been happening recently. I could have gotten off this hand, but it didnt feel like a proper fold. Villian was a 19/14/3

Complete Clarity

Blog by : firemanx
0

So this is the end of week 7, and I have madea decision to make a change to my new years goals. I will not be trying to achieve 500 SNG's. I will occasionally play them, but I am going to try to focus completely on my cash game. I dont have a passion for SNG's that I have with cash games now. I lose interest quickly when I play them, and dont think they will be beneficial to continue to play.

Now onto the cash games. I feel like I have a really good grasp on the .10/.25 level right now. When I am playing it almost seems like I am not thinking anymore, and just playing. Picking up on reads, tells, and a complete coming together of play at this level. I have had my third straight week of winning at this level, and really had my best week of the year so far. Onto the Numbers

Besides poker I've been completely dominating a friend in Online Madden, and working alot. Had to put in alot of OT as we had a baseball tourney this weekend at the Park. Other then that it has been pretty boring on the home front. Anways GL to all.

Week 6 in the books

Blog by : firemanx
0

So week 6 is officially over, and went rather well making 4 buy ins @ .10/.25. Lost a couple really big hands that should of had me up around 8-10 buyins. Still a solid week. Still making adjustments, and grinding on. Week 6 numbers :

Week 6 I didnt get in as many SNG's as I would have liked to, but still played them extremely well this week. 3-5 with 2 first, and a second. Numbers look like:

Anyways been playing alot of poker, madden, and exercising. Madden online is officialy a joke. Some of these guys need to do something besides play madden. Some need to learn how to do something besides run only 2 plays. Havnt been doing alot of working out, but have been playing alot of softball, and now jogging 2 miles a day. Def need to get a good pair of running shoes. Anyone got any suggestions for solid running shoes?
