holdem bad *roar*, omaha good *roarrrr*

Blog by : david_s

My holidays from work have come to an end, its now Friday 8:34pm and I just finished a session of PLO.

This entire week has been one of the worst since i started playing on stars again, every holdem session turns into a blood bath, I dont feel like im playing my A game, I know I am definately not catching any cards and when I do I just cant seem to connect them.

I had holdem session before where i won $50 but then made a stupid move and stacked someone with AA whilst I had top pair and a gutshot, I don't know why I did it but for some reason I felt he had total air...guess I was wrong.

I'm generally fairly good at putting players on ranges and have had a few people comment on consistant good calls and big folds that I make in holdem, thats probably the only good thing happening in holdem this month for me.

I'm just playing bad...maybe its because im playing omaha and stud alot lately and because those games are so action packed and loose im not adjusting well when going back to holdem?

Another funny thing I have noticed of late is this; (you will need to picture the environment)

When I play poker I am generally sitting at the edge of the bed (the side) and have the laptop sitting on a unit with a box under it so its at a decent level and im not totally looking down all the time......when I have taken the laptop somewhere with a table and chair and am sitting playing there, I tend to have a really good session, I took the laptop into the kitchen and played on the table and what do you know, decent holdem session until I made the spew and ran into pocket aces as mentioned above.....perhaps I need to ensure I am in a comfortable position when playing, something for some of you to think about I would imagine.

My bankroll is back into a comfortable position at the moment due to the PLO and Stud games, had I not played them I would be in serious hot water.....the stud and plo games are so soft its unbelievable, how long they last this soft is anyones guess which is why I am learning the games, its probably my first week of playing them seriously, multi tabling etc.... 25NL - 100NL. I noticed all the pro's are starting to drift away from holdem and onto 8 game etc..

I havent seem Joe Hachem play Holdem for agessss online now, his still a legend though :)

Anyway, I will post a graph when I sort myself out with holdem so you guys can see the amazing trainwreck and then see the amazing upswing that IS going to happen it WILL happen damn it.

GL to all at the tables,

Dave

SOS

God I hate this limit so bad, annoys the shiet out of me.

After my shitty session yesterday, I managed to win my buyins back that I lost and now I am back to where I left off yesterday.

I lose a buyin set over set 6's vs 8's
I lost another buyin with hit top pair on the flop and two pair on the turn to get busted on the river by a donk who chases his gutshot with the worst possible odds.

Then after that I get KQ, I raise pre and get called by the donk short stack of a small blind who called with 45s who spikes two pair on flop vs my TP.

All that in the last 20 minutes of my 1 hour session just now.

I was doing so well today too and in 20 mins bang back to where I left off, the day isn't over yet so hopefully my session tonight I will run better.

I am down $30 and as usual by $EV, I am up 30 cents. This limit is really frustrating the hell out of me.

Since I started playing again in October on Pokerstars I am running ok but someone seriously needs to help me run over this limit, I am going to go insane if I am not beating it by the end of the year.

I have 1 week and 3 days left until I am back at work so I am trying to put in as much poker as possible, maybe I should invest in a coach although I cant afford it right now.

If anyone is willing to throw in a few free sessions please let me know, if i can get this role up a bit more I can get a coach the right way.

The steadiness towards the end of the graph is the last 2 days which has been driving me crazy, around hand 7205.

One thing really confusing is the time's in holdem manager, I am in Australia and the hand histories must be capturing the U.S time or something because 3/4 through the day it shows up as a new day in HEM, anyone know how to fix this?

god damn it, AA vs KK and of course he hits trips on the turn, it had to happen eventually, then this donk calls with 22 on a 669 board when i lead out, wtf~!~! just lost 3 buyins to bullshit!

25nl and 50nl I swear I run into the worst fuc*ing luck; overall I am running above EV but its due to hitting those lucky rivers and stuff not bad play, the line i took with the AA vs KK mentioned above i practically turned my hand face up because we were re-raising pre like animals and everytime I went to showdown I had next to the nuts, all big hands, not one donk move so he had to put me on AA.

small sample I know but over such a small sample its driving me insane that I run into such bad luck when I have been playing and running so well, I always build my role up then take a hit like this.

Annual Leave time

Blog by : david_s
0

Well I have 2 weeks holidays from work, I will be going back on the 7th December, this is Day 2 of my leave and all I have been doing is playing poker and spending time with my fiancee which is exactly what I wanted to go, oh and playing xbox 360, if any of you guys have one, add me on xbox live, my nick is saliba1982. (i think hehe) or leave your tag and I will add you on.

I watched one of the freakiest movies I have ever seen the other night, "Paranormal Activity" I wont spoil it for you guys but I recommend getting this movie if your into the whole paranormal side of things.

Anyway, I have been doing a few $16 18 man sng's and always coming close to winning but I have only managed to cash in one, I am playing tight early and opening up later on once the bb gets to about 100-150, it gets me to the final table but I've ran into some bad luck as usual, I think I need to work on my mid to end parts of my sng / mtt's, early on I feel im playing pretty solid. I've also been taking few shots at 100nl, I have been doing alright, up 5 buyins on that limit this month, im running above expectation, I was on a straight and flush draw vs top two pair and turned the flush for a buyin so I was happy that worked out for me, I had to withdraw a couple hundred the other day and have now managed to get back up to my initial deposit which I am happy about.
I am running below expectation on 50NL which sucks, for some reason I'm stuck on 25nl and just cannot seem to get up on this damn limit, maybe I am not giving them enough credit.
I feel I am destroying 10NL although I have only done a few thousand hands I'm very confident when playing and generally come out on top, I'm a steady eddy on 10NL as they say on PTR.

As always, below is the current graph;

EDIT : - I have updated my graph to reflect the next 2 sessions I did after writing this was 25nl x6 tables which I finished ahead, funny shit, although I ran into AA with KK in an all in pot, typical for me on 25nl but I table selected well which I think I wasnt doing properly, maybe my table selecting sucks although on 25nl I imagine you wouldn't have to?

opposites attract

Blog by : david_s

I took a bit of a break playing, I was swinging a lot, I would win a buyin or two then lose it then win a buyin then lose it, everything I lost I would win back and everything I won I would lose, it was driving me insane.

I was doing a mix of 25nl and 50nl; I would love to know how those players just have constant rising graphs with no swings at all.

Swing Central

I been doing heads up for the last 2 days and have been doing alright, I've copped a few sick beats , top two pair gets busted by ace on river, although its standard its annoying that villAIN calls down ace high while I lead each street. Here is my graph since october, check out the red line hehe.

opposites attract

I have taken a break from my 10NL grind, its on a pause at the moment.

This years goals are ;

1. Build my role to be able to play 100NL
2. Win a nice donkament for few grand.
3. 5 buyins per day on 10NL
4. Reduce the swings I consistantly have

If anyone wants to help feel free to add me on msn ozpokerkid@gmail.com

10nl Grind - Day 3

Blog by : david_s
0

Back to work tomorrow unfortunetly but I have Tuesday off because of Melbourne Cup so it will be interesting to see how the games are during week days since I rarely get to play during business hours.

I been running well on 10NL but am shit outta luck in the 18 and 45 man sng's the last 2 nights, the last few I have done where I have been close to the money I have got it in good but keep getting bad beats.
I am thinking of getting a coach for the sng's since I always seem to get close but just cant do better then break even or slightly under break even.

I also want to start putting in some volume in the heads up sng games and possibly some omaha and stud games.

The question of how much can someone earn each month grinding 10NL is constantly in my mind, im on day 3 of my little challenge and so far am up 5 buyins on 10NL.

I am playing a very laggy style, 26/17 over the 1100 hands I have put in these last 2 days, today being day 3. I am hoping i hit 10 buyins profit by the end of this weekend.

I will post my graph at the end of the day summarizing how my weekend went, the graph below includes 25nl, the drop at the beginning is when I had JJ got it in on the flop on a 9 high board with no draws against a villain with AK and of course the river is the King.

exclusion has finally ended

Blog by : david_s

I excluded myself on pokerstars after running horrible months ago, the exclusion was the max they offered.
Since then I have been hanging to get back on stars since the games are way better then on any other site, more/better tourneys etc...

I was running good on ftp until i made a bad mistake and jumped on a higher limit and then it all turned bad.
I have noticed that I run well and then when I move up, to far up where my role cant support the variance I run bad and spew money.

What I am doing now is limiting myself to 10NL until i reach 1k and then I will move up to 25NL.

I am going to be doing mtt's and sng's as well but will be buying in for no more then 1% of my role.

I am playing between 4 and 8 tables of 10NL for the last 3 days, so far I am up 2.5 buyins, graph is below;

it had to happen eventually

Blog by : david_s

The last 3 days have been pretty sucky with poker, i'm on a bit of a down swing and don't feel like i'm playing my best.
I think my confidence has taken a hit because of the last 3 days of playing, its probably more so that i'm feeling like i cant focus as well as not making any hands and when i do someone plays back at me and i cant continue and need to muck it for various reasons.

Here is my graph showing the chaos this week on full tilt;

I running close to my expected $EV but my goal at the moment is to not start tilting and jumping onto higher stakes spewing my role, this is probably my biggest downfall and the reason I have not profited online.
Take out the stupid sessions spewing money on 200 and 400nl and 2/4 3/6 limit and i would be up but that's just excuses being made, my goal this year is to come out on top and be rolled for 100 nl, still along way to go.

The big drop on my graph at around hand 2913 is when I made a stupid mistake and hopped on 3/6 limit, I am profiting over a very micro sample size on limit, I knew I should not have played 3/6 but it was one of those days where I was not in the best of moods and should of just left the laptop turned off, the bad run started there.

I will be moving over to stars at the end of the month and will probably be focusing a fair bit more on the MTT's.

I had a short session on Cake Poker just before and came out $193 up, i won a monster pot with pocket 6 vs 2 villains, the flop came 8-8-6 and we were all in after a few 3 bet's between the 3 of us, I had raised it up making it look like a feeler bet and one guy potted it and the other shoved, we both call and one villain is on a straight draw and the other a flush draw. Only sucky thing is I cant seem to get the session imported into holdem manager.

If anyone knows how to leave a comment, I cant find the hand histories either although the option to save was ticked in Cake.

Hopefully my luck has turned and this lousy swing corrects itself.

EDIT:

My bad, I just checked in holdem manager and the hands were importing, I didnt bother checking since last time I was playing they weren't.

Anyway here is the full house hand I mentioned, for some reason the hand history converter isn't recognizing the formatting of the hand, this has been happening a bit lately :

how quickly things can change

Blog by : david_s

Last night as I mentioned I copped a horrible beat on the river, it seems as though that wasn't the last I had seen.

This morning more of the same happened, I felt I was playing well just could not win a hand for the life of me.
I made a few bad calls thinking people had absolute air as there lines didn't really make sense but kept running into big hands, I took an hour break from playing grabbed a bite to eat and started back up again.

I made a really good fold with TPTK which I was pretty happy about;
I wanted to keep the pot small and with two others in the hand and being out of position I was expecting one to bet and someone to raise, if they did I was confident im against a set or a bigger pair. If the raise didnt happen I would probably call but could put up an argument to fold the river if they both start getting aggro.

http://www.cardrunners.com/members/display_hand.php?session=s%3A6%3A%22109154%22%3B&hand=s%3A7%3A%226363187%22%3B

I dropped about 3-4 buyins on 25nl since last night, I was getting very unlucky with my hands but managed to pull through and get back up.

Here is a graph of this weekend; including EV and showdown non showdown winnings.
