Hey guys,
Been another busy day today, but as I'm just sitting around waiting for something to fall into my lap to write about, I thought I would make a start on my blog chronicling my first three days in Las Vegas.
Job stuff first
I started my job the day I got here. My job (and this was the first time I really knew what it was going to be about) is to go around the World Series of Poker in the Rio casino, and seek out interesting, but light hearted, stories about the players and the games and tournaments.
I do a mixture of things, from just hanging around the games that the big players are playing in and listening out to prop bets they make, to going to starbucks each morning and scoping out what the players are eating and drinking, to interviewing players about who they're living with this summer, the insane bets they've made, the 400k they just lost and so on and so forth. I've probably met 15-20 of my biggest poker heros in the last 3 days including nanonoko, timex, stinger, luckychewy, vanessa selbst, Jason Mercier... tons more. I've still to speak to the big five: Victor Blom, Durrrrr, Patrik, Phil Ivey or Phil Galfond. Patrik showed his face for the first time today, but sat at cash all day with nearly one million in cash in front of him, and I dind't get a chance to speak to him. I see Ivey every day, but I've been warned to stay away from him as he hates media. He's actually the one person I've been told to avoid, and people have been so nice, like Olivier Busquet, Andrew Robl and Stinger.
First few days were tough enough however, as I was pretty jet lagged. Right now it's 1am and I'll probably be in another two hours trying to cobble stories together from the one tournament left running. It will be 11am in Ireland by the time I get to go home and sleep.
I'll add some cool bets that were going on around the place
1. Jason Mercier was taking 100k for action that he could learn to dunk a basketball in one month. We asked around the Rio to see if people thought he could do it, and posted a poll on pokernews which finished up 82% that he couldn't. Think I about agree with that
2. In the big cash game tonight, One player bet another 7-1 on 7 thousand that he couldn't throw a water bottle in a bin 25 feet about. Ben Lamb took half the action for the bet (so the thrower was risking 500$ to win 3.5k and ben lamb the same, if the thrower got the shot). The thrower hit the shot and him and ben Lamb won the bet. It got a big cheer from people on the rail.
Poker Stuff
I actually busted my withdraw limit on my Bank of Ireland account trying to pay for my house, so I was pretty out of cash the last few days trying to pay that. I borrowed some money today and playing cash in Planet Hollywood and dropped about 100. My boy BK was sitting accross from me and dropped about 3 Buy Ins, so I'm glad I didn't have access to extra funds as, when one CardRunner runs bad, every CardRunner runs bad. I didn't play well but I didn't play terrible either. I think it's difficult to play well when you aren't secure in your bankroll, and I obviously couldn't reload without asking bk for a few more hundred lend, so I just played pretty snug and tried to make my Buy in last. I had seven hours until work and didn't have a ride back to the house and back in, so I was stuck on the strip for seven hours either way.
My friend Gareth played an event today, but I didn't get a chance to sweat him at all as I was playing live and then he busted around 4. He's on the up and up though, I have a good feeling about both him and Bachelder this summer. And SkinnyBrown if he is coming out to play a bit, and I'm taking 10% of that if he does.
House Stuff
The guys in the house have been great. Obviously I'm never gonna say they're wankers as they're a huge favourite to be reading this, but they have been super nice so far, and have been happy to ferry me around on their own time. It sucks that I can return the favour, reminds me that I have to learn to drive sometimes or I'm just gonna be a life fish forever. I can return the favour by booking huge pieces of bk's cash action whenever he plays in the mirage. Limits to boring to book any of that, so I'll return the favour to deadmoney by not beating up on limit too often, and by complimenting his burger that he makes even when they aren't that good at all #GoodCheeseTho.
House is spacious and that, which is good cos Bachelder, Rail0 and Bachies friend Marco are gonna come up this tuesday to stay for a week. Bach is staying for June. Will be cool to have some extra boyos around the place and should lead to some good banter. We mostly just watch the american sports and drink canadian beers at night. Well there's other shit going down but I can't really blog about it, you can use your imagination.
Not really anything too ballr to discuss about the house. It has a nice bbq area and that out the back, which is gonna be key in July when I believe the weather cools right down to a sultry 52 degrees celcius. Also found out that there are dodgy fucking brown spiders that looking biting you and having you in hospicle for days - not interested in having that happen.
Results are out this tuesday and some more people arrive so I will write a blog after that and talk about whats going on here, my college stuff that's going on, and how many 10/10 asian girls have walked into me just lyke i were teh invisibel
Hope everyones running good in life, and at least running better than the swamp house at the pokers,
Crash
