Getting over the hump

Have you ever felt like you get to a certain bankroll and just get stuck. It's like your feet are in concrete and you just can't take anymore steps. I've felt like that so many times in the past year. Everytime I would break free, not long after I would be pulled back to the exact same spot I started. You just have to stand your ground and keep trying to inch forward. Eventually you will break free from what is holding you back. A couple of months ago, I was talking to one of my friends about this topic. I just c{mosimage}{mosimage}ouldn't get past a four-figure bankroll online. I am happy to say, I finally broke free and have been vaulted forward.

My stats aren't perfect and I don't win at 6BB/100 like some of the good players, but I grind out a profit each month. I have a day job, but the extra $$ are nice to have in PS and FT savings accounts. The more I win, the harder it is to drive to work each day knowing that just by grinding along I can make more sitting at home, but I have a family and need the security of a steady income to know that a bad month at the tables will not take anything away from them.

I know I am not very good at updating this blog, but I am vowing to update it at least three times per week. I think by reviewing my big hands in my blog, it will force me to find the mistakes I am making. Novemeber has been my most profitable month since playing poker 2 years ago. I am adequately rolled to play 5-10NL with the occasional shot at 10-20NL ( if the the right opportunity presents itself, i.e. fish).

I'm always reviewing the top losers and winners each day in pokertracker from datamining and wonder how some people can win at the rates they do, but after a couple of session the past few days I understand.

Monthly graph and stats will be posted tomorrow morning.

Big day at 5/10

I had a bad day at work yesterday, so I took a half day and went home to play poker. Generally, I mix my play between 2/4NL and 5/10NL. I ended up playing really well and consistenly chipped up throughout the day. It was my biggest cash game day ever with winning just under 9K over 2259 hands. I think my tight play was the right way to go yesterday. There are plenty of people willing to donate their money to you when you have the best of it.

I ran at 18.11 / 10.67 / 1.27. I need to bring my aggression factor up quite a bit and I think that will help my PF raise percentage.

A struggle to get ahead

Has anyone ever noticed how you get to a certain bankroll and it seems that you cannot surpass it? This is the devil that I have been fighting for the past month. I am playing as much as I can: while working a full-time job and having 2 kids to take care of (2 month old boy and 5 year old girl). It seems like evertyime I am going to have a breakthrough, everything comes crashing down and I am back at that certain bankroll amount.

My sessions have been pretty swingy the last few days. It sucks knowing you have to climb out of a whole to start a session. I consider myself a TAG, but tend to be too passive postflop. I have trouble determining when to raise and when to check/call. I know I am ahead, but seem to be scared to make the move. It is a big roadblock in my pursuit of increasing my BB/100. I know I am missing opportunities to make more money.

I finally gave up on PokerOffice a couple of weeks ago. It never seemed to be working and support was starting to decline. So, I bought PokerTracker and PAHUD. It took quite a while to switch my database over. I had 8 files from Stars with about 60K hands each. I had to split the files and manually upload each one. Ugggh, what a pain, but it is done and I am enjoying the dataming capabilities for FT. I am constantly datamining 16 tables of 2/4 - 5/10NL.
