Reader's Digest article - Government Waste"
You know it's bad when a mainstream media outlet like Reader's Digest is saying we waste about 1 trillion a year. It'd be nice if this article got some national attention, even if it did though, the public's response would be to make more agencies to oversee this instead of cut agencies completely out. I was listening to some interviews with libertarians and they were saying that even if we elected a libertarian president it wouldn't even matter, because the system is doomed to fail. The only way to sustain is to completely abolish government. This will likely never happen.

On the plus side, it seems religion is getting less and less extreme. I'm still undecided if I'd rather have an atheist world or not. Religious indoctrination seems to be a decent way to trick poor people into having decent morals. As long as they don't get extreme and decide that their religion must spread (Islam is currently the forerunner for idiotic religious ideas), I don't really have much of a problem with them.

Poker has been going pretty lame lately. I've been playing about 3000 hands a day this whole month and I'm up only like 10k. Poker really does seem like an endless grind and I'm not sure how people put up with it at low stakes.

Good to see someone else interested in politics etc at cardrunners. Seems like most people here like the majority of the population could care less. It's very sad to see that even the very intelligent and open minded poker players don't care for the most part...if young intelligent men don't care....then who does? You are on the right track but you I think need a few more pointers, the situation is way more serious then you probably think it is. For starters it's the same in Europe...they signed a new treaty which will be ratified until 2009 and essentially will abolish democracy and national sovereignty(google treaty of lisbon). The treaty also calls for higher "defense" budget and an even stronger link to the US(for more wars). You proably already heard about the plan for a NAU North American Union, while this is not yet definite like the EU it will probably come in the next few years. The goal is to end national sovereignty of the US which will mean the end of the constitution(or rather....of what's left of the contitution).

Another thing is to google the council on foreign relations (CFR) and the bilderberg group and the trilateral commission. the most important group for the US is the CFR. Those are the groups and people behind the official puppet government. And they make it even somewhat public.....you just have to look at a mainstream outlet like wikipedia and be able to read between the lines and connect the dots:

Read the quotations there about david rockefeller. you have to be blind to not realize whats going on. but most people could care less. after all what do they care if they will be enslaved, living in poverty, fear, a destroyed environment, losing their lives in unnecessary wars sent their by their politicians who would never ever go there themselves? yea right, who gives a fuck.

Regarding the readers digest article....yes the system is doomed to fail. The US has private, corporate, municipal, state and government debt more than 50trillion US$..plus I think 50trillion US$ more implied debt with unfunded pension and healthcare programs. sustainable? but people care less....hey let's finance another war after all who cares how much debt we have?! then they cry when the US collapses and martial law will be imposed......

Talking about money you might want to read up on the Federal Reserve Bank...first off it is not federal it is privately owned(but the government has some saying in it to make it look like it is federal) and makes probably hundreds of BILLIONS each year. and no you can't be a shareholder of them....the federal reserve club is by invitation only.

AWWWWW I feel so bad for you, a whole month and only up 10K. WHHAAAAAA I only make about twice the average americans salary during a bad month. IF YOU ARE SO UNHAPPY QUIT PLAYING!!!! You really sound like a douche making comments like that. Most of us would kill to make 10k a month doing something must of us love, like poker. Why don't you take your poker winnings and move to some ass backwards third world country so you can see what an actually shitty government is like. Hey! What's this bullshit about respect for his country!? Why the fuck do you think he brings up these topics? It's because he cares about his country the people in it and hates to see what goverment is doing with it.

First off, I think my complaining about making 10k probably came off wrong. To me it just seems like I've been playing more and more and more and making less and less and less. It's a frustrating realization. It's tough to go from winning at high stakes to marginally winning at medium stakes, and really fucks with your mind. The comment about people playing lower stakes was shortsighted at best.

As to my complaining about govt...yes I realize there are plenty of places worse than the US, but that doesn't mean I'm happy to see all my freedoms taken away. It doesn't mean I'm happy the govt wastes like there's no tomorrow. No matter what position you are, if you're in a first world country, you are fortunate. But that doesn't mean you'd like to see the government get into colossal debt funding wars that are not justified.

Ok, I'd like to apologize for my rant earlier. I wasn't so mad about the government discussion, because I do agree that lots of wasteful spending is going on by our government. My anger was more fueled by this comment:

"Poker has been going pretty lame lately. I've been playing about 3000 hands a day this whole month and I'm up only like 10k. Poker really does seem like an endless grind and I'm not sure how people put up with it at low stakes."

This comment is upsetting for a few reasons.
1) I understand that 3000 hands a day is a good amount of hands, I don't know how many tables or what type (HU, six-max, etc.) , so I don't know how many hours a day that equates to. But, just think about factory line workers, sweat shops, child labor, and other extreme situations and rediculous hours the unfortunate people of these Third world countries have to work just to feed their families. I understand that there is always room for improvement within our government and I too have complained about it, but in the grand scheme of things I feel extremely fortunate to live in this country. Especially in a country where I even have the means to play poker and take a shot at earning some extra income.

2) Its also upsetting to hear the complaint about only making 10K this month and you don't know how low stakes players put up with it. I saw your response to this statement and you clarified on it a bit, so I understand your point. But, it came off as a bit of a greedy comment. Personally I have been sucking at poker for about 3 years until I found cardrunners about 5 months ago. From this point I have worked my normal 7-4 job (9 hours a day) then came home and balanced, my girlfriend/personal like while watching about 250 videos (1-2 a day) and trying to get in about 1000 hands a day of 6 max NL. From all of my work I have managed to turn a 200.00 deposit into over 11k. I feel extremely excitied about what I have done and what I can do in the future and I owe it all to this site. But, it kind of sucks to hear a complaint about making 120K in a bad year. I would kill to be in your position and I would easily continue to work my job and come home and grind out hands to make what you make in a bad year (between the two I assume I would be spending more total hours working than you) You have a gift and have been born/grown up in an environment which has allowed you to become successful at poker. It is very disheartening to hear somebody who has what many of us are striving for, make complaints about poker. As for the government stuff I apologize for getting a bit out of line before. I understand our government needs improvement. But, as far as governments/countries go, it could be a whole lot worse.

Maybe he complains about the government because he realizes that the US will soon cease to be a first world country? Like I already pointed out the US has the biggest trade deficit in the whole world and the largest amount of debt. After reality will soon catch up it will be one of the poorest countries in the world.
