Happy new year Cardrunners. Including pics from Brighton and India.

Blog by : Skjervoy

Some of my goals for 2012 are taking more pictures and blogging more. Those are easily combined as I will show soon. Other goals are related to business and what I hope for playing the game I love. Maybe something between 2010 and 2011? I'm satisfied with 2011 and just hope FTP get back up, and I can't complain about the year at all even if I ran horrible at noosebleeds. Even breaking even there would make me up 3m ish this year. Losing 1m in a single day, twice this year made matching 2010 impossible, but that's how it goes playing 200/400 and 300/600 deep.

Very impressed on how much PLO is actually running these days, even if I have to say the bumhunters do their best to destroy it like NLHE. You know who you are, and please think a bit more before ruining it all. Esp. weaksauce to not start 6m games when they are crushing. Rather leech on others hard work. /end rant.

One business project I'm involved in is a Norwegian online poker magazine. It's in Norwegian, but will link the beta version anyway for those who read scandi languages.

More news to come about english projects soon.

Gonna start with posting pictures from first day in India and end it with a pic from our xmas dinner in Brighton.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE !!!

Life is fun

Blog by : Skjervoy

Had some awesome 2 weeks with friends/family visiting and the last bit of Brighton summer/ indian autumn as the local newspaper call it. Was 28c here for like 6 days just a week ago and thats nothing Im used to in October from Norway, (understatement).

Had like 6 mates ,from school not poker, visiting from Norway plus CR own Gakn29 joining for 4 days. Did the standard norwegian party for like 4 days but also did paintballing, volleyballing, orbing plus the Tottenham-Arsenal game. So had action packed weekend.

Moved into new flat just a week before they arrived and had parents over for the first weekend in it, my friends the next, then move in party the third (with my gfs sister visiting us) so gonna relax for a bit and get in some hands and other poker work, including some CR video the next week or so. Been really fun with tons of visiting and party but cant have vacation for too long either..

Im also on midle 6 figures downswing after the last blog/graph post, but Im satisfied with my play and the decision to play in those games so just have to file it under variance (it was 200 400 and 100 200 deep) since its not actually that many BBs.

Doing some other poker writing so hopefully it lead somewhere in the future but its not a short term project, but think there is still way to little written litterature on PLO. So lets see what happens in the future..

How I relate to the The Mental Game of Poker (semi review)

Blog by : Skjervoy
0

Been keeping up a very steady grinding pace since February after relocating to England from early January. Spending the first month getting settled and similar. Had some small laptop sessions mainly vs Gus if I remember correctly then, but hard to grind from a hotel. My real volume happened after getting back to a workdesk.

This leads me to the book I recently read trough the same day I got it. Jared Tendlers excellent The Mental Game of Poker. I wish I read it 8 years ago for the first time, because he hit home with me on this one. I def recommend it and have to say the obvs, if I had read it 8 years ago it would def not be the last time I opened it. I think I enjoyed the motivation chapter the most, but have to reread it and let it sink more before I decide.

Going back to my grinding from the first paragraph, as you can see from the graphs I posted in earlier blogs I had some nasty and v sudden 7 figure drop on my results mid March. By experience I know that I deal with downswings best by grinding trough them but I really found alot stuff to think about from the book esp on the chapter I already mentioned.

Im a believer that writters that just get you to think about the right stuff, is worth the money on that ground alone, even if their writing stinks. The beauty of The Mental Game of poker is its doing booth. Putting the right thought process/ ideas to think about into your mind, while it have excellent content to expand on that.

I might seem very positive here but for 50$ its an easy investment for any serious poker player.

Mission complete

Blog by : Skjervoy

Finally back in black on this computer so Im very likely to just buy a new since this one is meh. Just some silly goal I set myself, not changing the computer before I was up. But it worked at least!

Wrote a long post about how EV and complaining about it often is misleading, and how running good at higher stakes trump everything.

Pretty obvs that Im running bad higher when I win so many buyinns but almost 'non' dollars in this period, unless my edge is a lot smaller/non existing vs mostly the same players on 4-6x the stakes. This is somewhat offset by last year so its def not black and white.

But Ill pass on rambling more and rather give you the 2 graphs:

In BB

In $

Enjoy my swings!

Ps probarly not gonna post more EV in graphs, whatever way I run, cause its so misleading.

Twitter

Edit: its tons more 50 100 and 100 200 mixed in compared to the other graph. Mostly because its been running tons more post WSOP.

One graph, two stories

Blog by : Skjervoy

All hands in BB

All hands in $

All hands on my new rigged computer since mid March. Looks like I run hot or not?

Big drop is mostly 3/600a with some 2/400 mixed in. Grinding it back on 90% 25 50 with a bit of 50 100 and 100 200 when its running.

Im still up for the year so cant really complain, just grind it out. Just wanted to share how misleading graphs can be.

Obvs running the other way around would be pretty sick though.

Good luck

Andreas

Blog by : Skjervoy

Taking some vacation, so flying out tomorrow to Aruba with Anette. Direct flights ftw (coming from Norway, thats a rare luxury for foreign trips).

Planned it a long time ago but the timing is good after being on my biggest downswing ever (1m plus a lot of change). Running bad, but thats PLO.

Gonna grind out a ton 25 50 when Im back is the plan, hopefully mixing in some higher if its running at my working hours. Gotta get the tablestarter karma working again :)

Back in 2 weeks!

Sleeping in parks

Blog by : Skjervoy

Ive never slept in a park but I wanted to randomly call my blog something related to the last week.

Besided black friday happing I was back home in Norway for some days. Meet some old friends and family and had a good time.

On wedensday Gavz arrived and we have just being doing anything besides playing. Since Wazz was running a Marathon today I guess we had to balance by being generally less healty people. Galen/Gakn29 (check out his plo vids btw) actually joined us for last night as well and he also seemed like a guy enjoying a good party.

Being meeting a loot of great people in Brighton thats mostly poker players from western Europe liking how UK treat poker. And probarly wanting to experience living in a diff country. They are good at doing stuff together so was kind of lucky bumping into them.

So me and Gavz basically hang with them for his stay. Highlight was paintballing hangover with the other poker players and some friends of them. Even though Gavin owned me badly in one of the matches.

Or actually maybe the drinking was better. Great time anyway. Also have to give Galen kudos for coming down from London for just one day.

--

Im not the right person commenting much on the FBI situation. But games seems to have been been much less affected then worst case scenarios. Obvs long term is really hard to guess.

--

So basically Ive not been playing much poker lately. But will get back on the grind soon.

--

Want to round up by shouting at PLO regs. If we dont want to hurt our winnings/hourly rate we have to keep up starting tables with the US people (temporarly) away. Just look at how redic its for 6m NLHE and NLHE in general, and its easy to understand that we have to keep on getting games running. Even you have to play a reg for more then 2 hands HU once in a while.

Hei

Blog by : Skjervoy

Been a while since I made a blog here.

Excuses are easy to make up so I rather do some updates.

First Im well settled in Brighton and it feels good to have everything set up besided my workstation with real internet.

So Im currently grinding away at my laptop without HEM (Ill install it today) and actually stable but slow mobile broadband. Been doing well this year running good vs mostly Gus at 5-1k cap but also some fun 1-2 and 2-4 hu matches. Fun equals no cap, cause I still find cap stupid/flipflop-/and def not 4 street -poker, even I think Ive edge playing it. Having fun at the tables is part of my motivation, otherwise its damn hard to put in the volume Im trying to have. Also dabbled a tad in the 1-200 6m games when they are running, to stay sharp in a lot (very) though lineups.

That said my volume the last 3 months suck, since Ive been to busy with moving and taking some time off. So I hope I can get back on the real grind (and dont be a slacker).

Been very lucky that I already have made myself leverage with winnings this year so I can keep up playing all games that are worth it. Ill try to stay away from boring games unless my edge is big or Ive no other action, and stay away from games that are to high for me vs aggro villians.

I feel bankroll management are so different vs the lag'tards'. And it would make no sense to sell action for good games then play the games noone want action for solo, with half winnings from the games that are a bit easier.

Also Galfonds mantra/blog about protecting your roll seems very smart. Important to be in action at the fun stakes instead of having to grind it up and potensial loose great action/games.

--

I also did a small eurotrip visiting Paris and Copenhagen with gf + playing 3 mtts in February. 1 minicash was the result and it sometimes feels such a grind with live NLHE. Esp for Copenhagen where they decided to run the whole day 1 as 10handed.

Not saying Im not gonna dabble more in them, but its at least not top5 on my priority list atm. And kudos for those with the patience/stamina to kill live. Go team Terken!

Ill finish with an observation that online PLO still seems to go very strong with a lot action even in weird hours. If there is anyone still considering jumping in to learn the game, Im pretty positive its not too late at all.

Good luck at the tables

Last month in Tromso

Blog by : Skjervoy
0

Im currently busy with packing since me and my gf are moving from Tromso. Its kinda painless but takes some time and we are out of our apartment in a week. Been grinding as well since the games have been good, and Ive to ride my run :)

I'm very happy with the results and looking back at the year as a whole I think grinding so steadily really helps me. Inspired by Doorbreads blog, Im gonna do some picks today, Tromso:

We are moving into Brighton, 50 min south of London by train. Put a lot work in choosing the place and have visited it once to check it out. We always wanted to live abroad again and its perfect opportunity for me to work on my English :p She is gonna study the first semester and we are looking forward to new adventures in a warmer place.

This would also put me closer to Casinos, so I actually get a reasonable chance to play live without spending a day getting there. Ill even mix in some donkaments next year, so it really help my working situation since I got more opportunities to play poker.

Brighton:

Next up Im gonna visit the Gran Canaries with my family for Xmas. Thats my family's first time abroad for Xmas and I'm mostly just tagging along, since Xmas preparation is not my department. I think every opportunity to escape the winter is nice so I'm looking forward to it.

If anyone have
recomadations for Brighton I would love to get 'em. Restaurants, nightlife, must do stuff etc.

Thanks, and good luck on the tables
