Been a long time....

Blog by : Schukie

Hello Cardrunners,

So I have not posted in a long time. I took a smallish break from poker over the summer, and did not take it as serious as in the past. This has changed the past 3 weeks or so.

I have had a real good last few weeks (Well for my standards).

I have been splitting time between 100nl and .25/.50 plo...I am overrolled for both, but I have a full time job, so not in a rush to get back up to 1/2.

But...As poker has been getting better I have been getting lazier. Usually happens like that, I grind more hours, eat in front of the computer and dont work out as much.

Granted I am training for a half-marathon so I run about 20 miles a week, but not weight training is killing me. So It is almost September 10th, which means I have exactly one month till October 10th.

Goals:

Within the next month I want to lose 12 pounds (I am at 202 right now)
Within the next month I want to play 20k hands of 100nl and 10k hands of .25/.50 plo.

I feel like both are attainable. So here is to a good 30 days.

Gl at the tables everyone.

Getting Serious (Long)

Blog by : Schukie

Hello CR Community,

Schukie back again. I have come to the realization that I have been wasting so much time in my life that it is crazy.

I teach from 8:00am to 3:00 pm, and most days the rest of my day consists of me watching tv/ surfing the internet/ playing poker. Granted I like each of these things, but it does me no good. Sure I can find out the news, watch sports which I love, and play poker which I love. But I sacrifice so much else to do these things.

I have said it a ton of times in the past, and hopefully this time follow through with it. As some of you may or may not know, on May 3rd I am running my first half marathon. I am going to start blogging a lot more about my preparation for this 1/2 marathon (13.1 miles for those that may not know.)

I currently weigh about 200 lbs...my ideal weight is about 160-165. I want to weight 175 pounds by the time the 1/2 marathon comes. so that is 25 pounds in 75 days. Almost 11 weeks, so I need to average just under 3 pounds a week. It is going to be hard, but well worth it.

I am also running this 1/2 marathon in support of Autism Awareness (I am a special education teacher) So what I am going to do is the following: If I lose at least 25 pounds I am going to donate $3/lb. if I lose less than 25 pounds I am going to donate $6/lb. The reason for more $/lb if I dont make my goal weight is to try and motivate me more.

At the same time I am going to attempt this One Hundred Push Up challenge. Currently completed the first day. It is a 6 week program that is supposed to prepare you to do 100 straight push-ups.

Sorry this is kind of long. If anyone has any advice or comments I would love to here it.

First is the worst, Second is the best

Hello Cardrunners,

So it has been a while since I have blogged. Mostly because I have been busy with work, and also somewhat cause I was on like a 15 buyin downswing at 100nl.

But last night I decided to stay in after I got home from Happy Hour. So I fire up the following tournaments:

Pokerstars:
$55 at 21:30
$11r at 22:00
$8.80 plo 4 max
$15 at 22:00

FTP
Fifty-fifty
some $2r
some $24 mtt think it was like 48k gurantee
and some randon $10 mtt

Anyways, I run pretty well and get a min cash in the $55 on stars, the $15 on stars, the $2r on ftp.

Then I end up winning the $8.80 plo 4 max, ship my first mtt win in a long time. Obv its the smallest tourney I play all night and I win about $189!!!!!

So after that im left with only the fifty-fifty on FTP, I was around the average when we made it to the money. I went on to play almost perfect poker (well perfect for me) and got to the final table as the chip leader. There was about 3 or 4 of us pretty close though. After a very long, at least it seemed like it, but it was like 4:00am so I was very tired, I got heads up but at a huge chip disadvantage. I never really get anything going and I take 2nd for like 7100!!! 2nd best night of poker ever.

Thats all, off to continue my half marathon training, about 4 months out. I will update that at a later time.

So a quick rerun of my session..played 1835 hands in 2.13 hours....won a little over 3 buyins. Has been a very good start to the new year's and can only hope that it continues.

Bankroll = $3334
Weight = No scale right now
VPP = 930

Profitable Start (Frustrating)

Blog by : Schukie

Hello,

So today I decided to start my 2009 poker. I fired up the $3r and $22 1r1a on Stars(only site I play on). I min cashed the $3r but started to get real deep in the $22 cubed. I ended up taking a disappointing 12th, but feel like I played pretty good the whole tourney. Just ran into AK on a resteal attempt with QJ with around 17bbs left, neither of us improved and I hit the rail. Took 12th for about a $330 profit...add that with my $15ish profit in the 3r(lol @ stars payouts) and I had a decent day of mtts.

I also played 1100 hands of 100nl and ran pretty good for a +$235 profit.

Bankroll = $3033
Weight = 196
VPP = 336

so a nice start but could have been a ton better...first was like $6500, 12th was $400 :/ I need to average way more vpp a day also. That will come when I play more ring...should play between 2 and 3 hours a day...which should net me around 350-450 vpp a day. So if I can average 400vpp a day that would make about 12k a month, which is decent until I move back to 200nl. Until tomorrow, good night

2009

Hello Everyone,

Happy New Years!! 2008 was a roller coaster for me in the world of poker. I did not play a whole lot from January till like May, because I was in the middle of a life transition from being a student to being a teacher. Teaching Adapted Phys Ed puts so much of life into perspective. Since beginning to teach I have realized that it does not really matter if I ship that 200bb pot or not because there is still so many things to be thankful for. Ever since this I feel like it brought my game back to being a decent winner.

Then in July I flew out to Vegas and obv ran terrible like every time i go there, but of course Vegas was a ton of fun.

In September I luck boxed my way to a 4th place finish in a $109 mtt, for like 4k and then ran pretty well at 100nl and 200nl. Making for a good September and October. I can not say November and December ran as smoothly. Dropped about 20 buyins at 100nl, but hoping for a much better 2009. Sometime last month I finally made it to Supernova for the first time ever. So now I need to try and maintain it. I hardly put in any volume in in December. Took a much needed rest. I withdrew a decent amount and left myself with enough money to comfortably play 100nl. So that is where I will begin in 2009.

Never really did New Year's Resolutions but this year I am going to because I need a lot of change in my life.

1. Train for and complete my first half marathon. On May 5th.
2. Lose 30 pounds in that span. I am around 195 pounds right now, my max was about 210 a year ago or so. In High School (8 years ago) I wrestled 145, so would like to get down around 155-160 eventually.
3. Move out of my parents house and into an apartment sometime in the next few months.
4. Pay for my apartment strictly with poker profits.
5. Blog more about poker and life in general.
6. Go on at least 2 nice trips this year.
7. Just enjoy 2009 as much as I can.

Thank you for reading and enjoy!!

So I havent posted here in a long time...been busy with teaching and stuff...I have been playing 100nl and 200nl and doing well....

Last night I decided not to go out to the bars and play poker...I ended up playing the $109 $50k gurantee on stars....Started off well doubling in first 20 minutes KK > 66.....too bad 6k would be the highest my stack would be for the next 2 hours...But I ended up short stacking ninjaing the tournament from 100 people down. I entered final table with 9bbs and in 8th place...Somehow I stuck around and...

TOOK 4TH FOR $4200!! This is my 2nd biggest score!! Now the bad part is I got sucked out on and would have had a decent shot of winning.

It continues..Advice appreciated

For people that dont know me that well..pretty much everyone on CR except 2 or 3 people....I have been playing on pokerstars since sometime in 2004...I have had some success at everything that I have played...but I feel like I just always get close to huge scores and let them slip away

In the past week I have taken 10th in a $55 6 max, $7th in some $5 plo rebuy $25 addon and most recently 19th in a $5 rebuy. but besides this recent stretch I checked my last 25 final tables or so and I won about 28k out of a possibly 82k (if i were to have taken 1st each time). This just got me down on my game lately...I know its just variance but its hard to take sometimes...if anyone has some pointers please feel free to let me know...I think in the past i wasnt aggressive enough near final table time..now I think im too aggressive...I need to find that middle point.

Ok rant over...MY goal for the rest of the year is to reach Supernova for the first time ever. I need 35,636 more vpp. This will be challenging because I start teaching again September 3rd...and my roll right now is borderline 100nl, but playing mostly 50nl

SO i will start a countdown at end of each blog with hands, profit and vpp needed

August:

25,809 hands

+$431 :/

35,636 vpp needed for Supernova
