They money isn't what matters

I felt like I either was on a roll or was simply crushing 50NL, so I gave 100NL a shot today even though I haven't played nearly enough hands to know I'm beating 50NL. Using the spreadsheet from MasterLJs video I found that I was winning with 95% certainty, felt good enough for me.

Now, if I was doing this for the money I probably wouldn't have tried 100NL just yet, but that's kind of second to the kick I get from figuring out how to beat a new level. Over the past 4k5 hands I beat 50NL for about 40bb/100 (20ptBB/100), and hopefully I can stay close to that for 100NL, in which case I will be taking shots at 200NL fairly soon. I'm currently doing 2 tables of 50NL and 2 of 100NL, planning to switch up and down depending on how my "bankroll" changes.

100NL seems very similar to 50NL, except people bet more frequently. My very short journey showed that people weren't very much aware of premium draws such as double gutshots or straight+flush draws, and frequently bet too little, pricing these draws in fairly cheaply, which is how I made a lot of money today :)

Anyway, here's my graph for the last ~5k hands. It's quite apparent that I go to showdown far too much, and I need to practice on giving up on the pot. That will mean a decreased redline, but on the other hand the blue one, and hence the green one, will be much less swingy.

Styles of play

Like I wrote, I've been experimenting with different styles of play, and these are the results (small sample since I just took one session of each style).

As you can see, I've tried different amounts of vpip, pfr and 3-betting, as well as general aggression. I'm not sure which one I like the best, the one I've circled, or the 26/22 with 17%... The circled bb/100 is kind of misleading, since I lost 2 all-ins where I was a big favourite during that session (I had an EV of $185 for the session). I think that if I can just get a few more 3-bets in there in LP, it could be extremely profitable at 50NL.

What do you think?

Oh look, you can blog!

Well hello there!

I'm Rabies, aka totikern, who's been playing 10NL and 25NL on and off for the last couple of years. Mainly off, because I've been tossing my roll out the window during the 10% of the time I'm playing my Z game instead of my A or B game.

Anyway, I've been logging 10k hands at 25NL and just now decided I can move up to 50NL in order to try it out. I'm still trying to find my own style, and have been progressing through the semi-nitty TAG promoted in the CM series, into a fairly solid 24/21 game but with a 13% 3-bet, into the hyperaggressive range, and back down again to what I think is somewhat laggy, with a fairly high 3b%. I'm still experimenting with playing styles, and that's probably what the first few entries will be about.

Anyway, here are two hands illustrating the ups and downs of the last couple of days
