Quick update.

Well we headed over to the Venetian to try and satellite into the $550 deep stack game there. CK sat down first at a $130 buyin single table satellite paying 2 spots. I waited for like only 10 min before they started up another table. It did take about 15 min to fill up. No breakfast yet so I ordered a mocha and proceeded to watch a poorly played AQ by the guy next to the dealer. He basically got it all in with only top pair on a drawy board. He lost to a flopped 2 pair. I had a pretty bad run of cards to see my stack dwindle a little as the blinds quickly increased. Finally look down at a playable hand with QJdd and think great I can play finally. Then the middle position guy bets and gets reraised by the guy next to him. In to the muck goes the QJ. Then nothing playable for a little while longer. We are down to 6 handed and I haven't played a single hand when I see CK walk over cuz he obviously busted out. I look down to see AT in the BB. UTG+1 who has been fairly tight raising raises to 3BB which is just about half of my whole stack. I think for a few min before I decide that since he will never fold to my raise that I should wait for a better spot. Next hand I get KJhh and the same guy limps. I think ok now he can fold his limped hand since it is probably weaker. I shove when it gets to me and he calls. He flips over A8hh and i think shit now i can't even win with a flush draw. Ace and jack on the flop. I lose the hand and am out of satty.

We head back to Caesers and CK and 2 other buddies from Calgary play the $330 mega stack. Mike has won the FTP sunday million for over 200k once and Will is a pretty solid player. I proceed to watch a bit then decide to finally play some cash.

I get sat down at a table with a really drunk girl. At first I think great easy money. Only to play for about 1.5 hours and have her be annoying but play almost no hands. So i manage to book a 100 dollar win with only one difficult fold of QQ on an A high flop 4 way.

Just woke up for a nap then gonna go play more cash.

Vegas Day 1

Blog by : NoMercyEh
0

Started off the day playing in the $340 deep stack event at Caesars at noon. Not much in the way of cards the first 2 levels. Level 3 saw me chip up a bit with a few Continuation bets on the flop that took the pot down. Right at the end of level 4 I am dealt AJ suited on the CutOff (CO). I raise it up over a limper. The button calls me as does the BB. Flop comes AQ2. BB checks I lead about half pot. Button hardly thhinks then Shoves. The BB thinks for a little while and decides to fold. I think for quite a while on what this person could do this with. My only options were AQ and 22 and maybe AK but flatting AK pre is a little weak IMO. I finally make the right decision and fold while we take another break.

When play resumes I find myself with 10k in chips and blinds are 200/400 with 50 ante. I look down at my cards Under the Gun +1 and see 88. The 2 tight 1aggressive players at my table are in late position. I decide raising to 3bb is best here over limping cuz they don't call many raises but will raise more hands. Given me a chance to scoop the pot with no action. Well it doesn't quite go that way. The person on my left calls. Then the person in the Cutoff calls. Then the person in the Button calls. Then the BB calls. We see a flop 5 ways which is generally not good for my hand.

I watch everyone at the table and see no indication anyone hit this flop hard so I look at it and what do I see?
2c 6s 8h giving me top set and the effective nuts. Well the BB checks to me and I decide to let someone in late position bluff at it hoping to Check raise them all in. Well after I check it goes Check then All In by the cutoff for about 2x the pot. followed by the button asking how much is it. Followed by the button saying he's all in with a little more than the other guy. (bets being about 11k and 12.5k respectively which is both more than I have behind.) I'm trying not to jump out of my seat screaming I WIN I WIN I WIN since there is one more person to act before me. Well the BB guy looks at all the money in the pot and looks at his stack which is about 70k or so left. He says I got the odds to call I think and takes a few min but decides to call. At this point I know he's on a draw probably open ended straight draw. As soon as he says call I say I call I'm all in. The person on my left wisely elects to fold.

We flip over the cards.... The CO had AJ the Button had JJ the BB had 57 for open ender and I had top set.
This gave the chances of winning as CO=0% Button=4% BB=27% and me with 69% chance to win.
I was very happen to get my money in so good with a chance to 4x up. But alas the turn brought a 9d giving the BB 75% to win and me 25%. The river didn't pair the board leaving 3 of out of the tourney with a huge stack even bigger.

I took a break from poker for a bit watched TV, read a book then had a shower and prepared for dinner. Met up with CK for dinner and then headed back to the poker room. I sat down at a $1/3$ cash game played for 2.5 hours or so and finished up $201 which was nice. It should been up about 340 bucks but I made a bad turn call for 140 then folded the river when I kinda new I was beat on the turn. Saved myself about 100 bucks though since if I called the river I was losing another 100.

Cash games are easy as that was the only difficult spot I found myself in.

Poker Study Group.

Blog by : NoMercyEh
0

I read a blog from allred26 who indicated he was looking for a low stakes poker study group. Not sure if his group is coming together as I haven't heard anything from him. I decided I best make the effort to put my own group together.
If you are interested pm me through CR and I'll exchange skype contact info with you.

I currently play 50nl with a bit of 100nl mixed in. Recently my play time has decreased dramatically but am looking to increase it in the future.

I am probably looking at some late night sessions of around 9pm MST or later.

My coach CizizenWind.

Blog by : NoMercyEh
0

Well I found out about Alvin "Citizenwind" Lau's interview on www.mediocrepokerradio.com/podcasts/ on Dec 7/08
When he was coaching me it was helping me a ton. I knew he was a good coach and stopped the coaching solely because my poker bankroll could not support it. Since I've made more money and built my bankroll back up I've thought about getting more coaching but can't find that much time. I have been watching his video's on Cardrunners and love the quality of his thinking and how he makes you think!

I'm currently still playing 50NL and hope to move up to 100NL pretty soon. I have 3 new videos I need to watch from CitizenWind and will probably start playing 100NL in the next month.

p.s.
Don't have rakeback? Sign up I've made $300 in the past 2 months at 50NL over 10k hands. www.rakeupdate.com/signup/NoMerciersRake

Cleared UB bonus finally.

Blog by : NoMercyEh
0

Well do to not having a regular job in December I was able to play a fair bit of poker. I've been playing 50NL($0.25/$0.50 for you non poker players) and doing only mediocre. I was down to about 1bb/100 hands not including rakeback or bonuses. Then I decided to not be so lazy and reviewed some old video's like Crushing the micros from Verneer. This helped a ton. I also started watching my old coaches vids.(Citizenwind). They are really good and really helped reinforce things he taught me that I haven't payed much attention to recently.

Now I'm running up around 4bb/100 which is much better. I wouldn't say I'm crushing it but I feel much better. Running at 4bb/100 has brought my roll up enough that I started 6 tabling and doing really well. This pushed my total roll over 3k finally. I've been playing on UB trying to clear my bonus and have made a decent chunk of it. Down to about 80 bucks left to clear. Plus I used my UB pts to get $50 cash. I hear using the pts for tournies is better if you are a decent tourny player but I can't seem to find enough time to commit to tourney's.

My buddy scored a 2k cash and after we went through his HH for it we started talking about hitting vegas again during wsop so we can play a bunch of deep stack games at other casinos. We'll see as I haven't been working and we also want to do a family vacation this year. Maybe San Diego or something with lots of zoos for my 4 year old.

If you have a place in San Diego to rent or know of a good one that is close to the beach we are looking at taking a week to spend in the area.

Please post any comments you might have. Sorry for the lack of hand formatting but the UB exported hands from holdem manager just don't seem to be converting in the CR HH tools.

First one is standard. With nothing to draw to I'm not willing to get into a big pot with AK

This one I see a good opportunity to 3bet. Unfortunately get called by the aggressive guy again.
This time I do a standard CB and he calls me. Now he could be floating me with AQ or 78 or 77 or a wide range as he's fairly loose. When the turn doesn't improve my hand I give up. I lose enough money with 1 pair nevermind losing more with no pairs.

Now here I get dealt AA for a change instead of AK which has been no good to me. I raise it up and get 2 callers.
They both check but the board is pretty drawy so I decide to bet out and see where I stand.

*** TURN *** [7h 6d 4h] [Qs]
BIRDMAN4022 - All-In $19.85
The insta shove the queen though leads me to believe he improved with the Q. His range didn't include (%wise cuz he's only about 25%vpip) Q6 and shit and if he had QQ He wouldn't have limped pre. So I figure maybe AQ or KQ and he thinks he's good

Another AK hand that didn't go well. I didn't have the option of raise here or I might have hoping that Frisbro had AQ and I'd win a nice side pot. But cuz the shove all in was not big enough we only were allowed to call.

A little poker and a ton of oracle.

Well played a bit of poker the last few days on Parbet.com">http://vip.parbet.com/click.php?rid=DI04055723&bid=5%E2%8C%A9=en&ref=">Parbet.com and it has been a swingy ride. Up $20 then down $20 then slowly down another $10 then win a few big hands and back up. One thing is for sure. The poker players on Parbet are extremely weak. I originally signed up there as part of a rake race where a guy deposited $100 into my account and we had to generate as many frequent player points as possible to win. I came like 4th out of 10 but was 2nd in total $won. I had ran that $100 up to $400 in one month. Then the race organizer removed his $100 and I took out $200 to use in Vegas. Anyway I've been playing more there lately trying to grind that $100 I had left up to a bigger number. Currently sitting close to $200.

We've been working a ton on a piece of software that does searchs on about 35,000 rows. But the tough part is these 35k rows have alternate names which make the total rows we are search about 400k and since we are doing where upper(name) like '%SEARCHWORD%' searchs its not indexable. We've tried numerous things so far without great success getting it to under 5 seconds. More details when we actually solve the problem to come.

Started playing home games again.

Blog by : NoMercyEh

It's been a really long time since I played a home game. I finally got the change to play with my old friend Russ Coulombe. Him and his friends have a league where you get points for placing in each game. 1 point for first knocked out, 1 + 2 for 2nd knocked out, 1 + 2 + 3 for 3rd knocked out etc. Well there was 12 of us for the 1st night of the season. Everyone was playing pretty tight. So when I got short stacked there were many others even shorter than me. Because the points matter in the league I decided to play a bit tighter than normal when short. I finally shoved my JJ and was called by A8. Dealer starts to deal, A is first card and I'm like damn, 8 is 2nd card and I'm like double damn. Then the 3rd card on flop is J and I'm like sweet justice!. The turn and the river held up and I doubled. From there on I played pretty standard until we got down to like 8 people and combined the tables. I opened up a bit and started stealing the blinds. Managed to get in all in good against another guy with more chips than me a couple times in a row to end up with a nice large stack. By the time we got heads up I had a pretty nice lead but lost a hand right away with my TJ to his 6 4 . Oh well. Then lost another little pot before I shoved again with a pocket pair only to find out he had an over pair. Oh well 2nd place in my first game in a while is good.

I haven't played much online in a while. Maybe 2 sessions. 1 on Parbet where I managed to stack a few donks and pick up $25 usd in no time at all. Then a 3:30am session on Ultimate bet where I couldn't sleep after my boy woke up and needed someome to put him back to sleep. I started off terrible losing a stack with 2 pair against his set. Then proceeded to hit top set at another table and have the guy acting in front bet out, I flatted only to have the 3rd guy shove all in. Then the other guy shoved all in behind. I was like well I definitely have the best hand here I just have to sweat the flush draw. The turn paired the board and gave me a full house so the river didn't matter. I won a nice 300BB pot.

This poker all happened on the weekend where I spent most of my daylight hours out in the yard. I had ordered a 100 yards of bark mulch to put in my yard. It was quite the mountain sitting out front on the street and after shovelly with a wheel barrow for a couple hours and not seeing a dent in the pile I was getting worried. Well Friday night comes and my neighbor hops in his skid steer and starts helping. I raked as fast as I could to spread the piles he was dropping for me but I couldn't keep up at first because of the trees and birms. He helped a bit then hopped back in his skid steer. We started on a different area after that was wide open and I was pretty much able to keep up. I had to stop at about 9pm cuz it was getting majorly dark and I was having troubles telling what was dirt, shadows, mulch. Thank god rained Friday night and was kinda muddy out there saturday morning so I had a chance to rest. By lunch it dried out enough so Back to work we went. Had Teri's help this time with raking and it was much easier to keep up to the skid steer. More of the yard was covered by end of day saturday. On sunday we were back at it before lunch and managed to have it almost all done in a couple hours. Then we helped our neighbor as he dropped some buckets in his yard so we raked around his shrubs. We still have probably 10 or so yards left over with only about a yard needed to fill in some missed spots. I guess we'll have to clean that up tonight.

My boy started preschool last week and was late for his first 2 days. My wife had wrote down that school started at 1245pm and finished at 2:30. Well she found out on friday after wondering each day where the other parents were. (dropping kids off early and late to pick them up she thought). Turns out school is from 1230pm till 2:45. He still likes it so thats great as he can be a bit of a home boy.

Well I've got a ton of work to do today so I better get my day started.

Rakeback, coaching, and Squaring a octagonal deck!

Blog by : NoMercyEh

First off I wanted a quick note to the people who know me that play a wee bit of poker but don't know about rakeback. Rake is the money that a poker site takes for every hand/tourney played on their site. When you play small stakes rake is as high as 10%. So if you have $50 deposited and you play cash games and have won and lost over time but have wagered over $1000 that means the site probably made $100 bucks off you as you moved up and down and won and lost pots. With Rakeback you can get as much as 29% or so of that back. That's an additional $29 you could have in your poker account.

I've been using rakeupdate as my rakeback provider for a while now. They cover most major sites and provide easy cashout to those sites with daily updates of your rakeback balance. If you don't have rakeback and are planning to signup/deposit to a new site please follow this link. www.rakeupdate.com/signup/NoMercysRake

I hired a poker coach a little while ago and have really felt it has been a valuable use of my time and money. I'm learning a lot about poker that I didn't realize I didn't know! I hope some day to make enough money playing that I can use my poker money to head to vegas for a few weeks during the WSOP.

If you have any idea about construction and have a basic understanding of what it takes to square up a wall or deck so that when you put sheeting or decking on it lines up evenly then you'll know it's a fairly simple thing to do. You first make sure that all sides are the same length. Then you measure 2 diagonals from corner to corner of your deck. If one is long than the other then you need to square up the deck. Well take that square and multiply the sides times 2 to get your octogon. Seems like that problem would be still simple. Take any 4 corners that are opposite and square them up the same as when you had just a square. Well I've been trying to do that but everytime I move one part and get 1 set of 4 corners square the others still seem to be off. Oh well my dad will be here tonight to help and he made his living doing construction for many years.
