WPT $10k update

0

So I finished day 2 w/ 162k w/ avg being around 120k w/ 140 players left. There were about 440 entrants and 100 get paid. Wow talk about a flat pay out. 100th pays about $12k and change so it's a profit of about $2k. 1st is $900k from what I heard.

Day 1 was kinda tough in regards to chipping up and actual table. On my table were Randallin (kid won Festa Al Lago for $1mil few months ago), Chances Cards (some online mtt player), ADZ124, Eric Baldwin (reigning Cardplayer mtt player of the year, whatever that means), Freddie Deeb, and a couple of other competent players. Only one guy gave it away and he busted early so it was hard to win much after that. I managed to let my inner 6max game run rampant and 3bet relentlessly to keep my stack above starting chips all day, other than that I really never got involved in any noteworthy pots, nor did I win any medium or bigger pots and finished the day w/ 41k (we started w 40k..lol).

Day 2 was a softer starting table w/ Jeff Shulman, Steve Brecher, Brock Parker, and a few guys that didn't play all that well. Brock and another kid (forget his name) were the only really competent players and I managed to run my stack up to 65k or so before getting moved to an even softer table.

That table had Dan Shak and Dave "Bakes" Baker and the rest were avg. at best w/ a few guys w/o much clue. I tried to play every hand when I sat down and promtly got down to 25k after losing every hand. I played this funky hand in the midst of my downswing... old guy opl for 600 (been opl'ing a lot), I iso and make it 2100 w/ Kh9h, sb (some middle aged Euro guy that would not stop talking all day and really had zero clue..I found it amusing but some people were irked by him) calls, limper calls, flop Ad9s4d, chk chk I bet 2500, call call (I think crap I'm prob done w/ this hand even though both guys are bad), turn 8h, chk, limper donks 3k (lol), I plan on repping a big ace and turn my hand into a bluff and raise to 8k, both guys call (so scrap that plan I think...I put one guy on diamond draw for sure), riv Kd completing a flush and making me 2 pair, chk, chk, chk...euro guy says 2 pair and shows 94 (lol), old limping dude shows 76 of diamonds for the flush (nice 3k donk lead on turn), and I fold my 2 pair.

So I'm wallowing in my misery of losing every hand on such a soft table and sitting on a 25k stack. We play 400/800/?ante and Dan Shak opens to 2400, I shove w/ AK and he folds 99 faceup. Very next hand kind openraises ep and I shove again w/ AK and he shows 77 faceup...lol. So I almost double up w/o having to win a race. I lose a couple of small pots and am down to 25k again. Bad euro guy opl, mp limps, kid raises to 6k and I decide to shove 25k w/ 88 from sb. Euro guy tanks and rambles on about how he has a good hand and finally folds what he says is TT (he was telling truth), and kid and I race off w AK vs 88 and my 88 holds. Riv was an 8 so I wouldve tripled up if euro guy called as well, but if he opr like most, kid prob 3bets w/ AK and I have to fold 88 so I kinda lucked out there.

Now I'm up to 60k and diff. old guy w/ a very tight but agg postflop image opr in co, Bakes in sb calls, I call in bb w/ AcTc and flop comes Ts9c3c and it goes chk, chk, old guy bets 8k into 10k pot, Bakes folds, I chkr to 21k, old guy throws bunch of 5k chips out to signify raise and I shrug and shove not being sure if I'm ahead but know I have outs no matter what w/ the nut flush draw. I'm really expecting to see KT+ from old guy but he rolls over Q9...wtf?! I hold and double to 130k, above avg for 1st time all day. Was talking w/ a couple of buddies about that hand and one says it's the "old tight guy just going nutso late in a tournament syndrome"...lol...I guess.

We go on break and play the last level of the day at 800/1600/300 and same old guy openships 40k from co w/ 55 and I wake up w AA in sb and end his day. Nothing else eventful happens rest of the level and I finish the day at 162k.

Hopefully I'll have more posts detailing some of my hands in this tournament. For those of you that want a good sweat of me making a run in this thing, you can follow me on twitter (as mentioned in my previous post) Nicolakpoker.

For those of you that actually read this entire post, you get an eye treat... (sorry ladies)...

royal_flush_girls_400

These girls were introduced before the tournament yesterday. Kimberly Lansing (I think) is far left and is the WPT hostess while the other girls were tabbed the "Royal Flush Girls" (lol). They were walking around the tournament room all day yesterday and today and it made it tough to focus on poker sometimes, esp. when the middle one (in black dress) was in view. Lol at Mike Sexton trying to keep a straight face.
