October Review

Blog by : Liquid_Quik

Oh October. Thank you for being gone.

October was not a great month for me as far as limit poker went.

I was forced by the confines of my bankroll to make a move downwards from the 1/2 games to the .5/1 games.

at 1/2 this month i played 11287 hands and lost at a rate of .89BB/100
at .5/1 this month i played 1985 hands at a loss of 1.47BB/100

(total $ loss was 229.70)

my won money at showdown stat is telling for .5/1 as I won only 44% of hands that i went to showdown with. I ran super bad yesterday, for example, as peoples draws came in pretty consistently against me. oh well.

I have some goals for this month. I would like to play 10k hands and have my winrate be such that I can possibly move back to 1/2 at the end of the month.

I signed up for session reviews at 2p2, so i hope that can help, and I have now taken it upon me to post hands and to comment on other peoples hands to see what people say about me.

I made a post on a guys hand and i was first in and my comment was exactly the same as Oink's comment, who is a pro at DeucesCracked. I was happy that we shared the same opinion.

I really want to make this limit thing work for me.

I did cash the 100k freeroll this month for $40. I also played a homegame tournament where i crushed everyone at my table until my buddy, who ididnt want to get involved with because everyone else was so weak, and i got into a HUGE flip for like 120k in chips (starting stack was 30k) and then i took my last 13K in chips and got them in with 88 against K3 and didnt get there.

I also made like 9k in fpps, which is 100~ in value. so that makes up for some of the loss. My goal with fpps is to get enough to get the 1k gc for FutureShop and buy a nice tv. if i goldstar it for the next 5 months i should have that. and that would be AMAZING.

Goals for poker:
10k hands
Post 20 hands at 2p2
try posting a few hands here
win money this month. i dont even care what ammount, but i want a positive month (and i will not quit november 28th if i have like a $6 win for the month. i'll play it out)

Thats all

Sort of the opposite thing happened in my session today as from yesterday.

Yesterday i ran ungodly bad to start and ended up recovering to make the loss small.

Today I ran incredibly well to start and was up over 120 at one point. I started to run a little more towards expectation and thought that this would make a good time to stop. I was up about 95 at this point. I played out my blinds and lost another 30ish to finish +67.00 for th day.. I'm happy to be up that much for the day, but i had some bad things happen to me that sucked a bit, haha.

I played 526 hands today at 32/22/2.3 Not much to say about that, some of it was short handed, so that makes the stats a little higher.

I flirted with a 1k bankroll for a bit today, which was kinda cool. I plan to Not play more hands today, so I will be making a withdrawl and taking a couple days off to do family things.

I am also going to be getting my new 22 inch monitor today as my PS giftcard came in the mail today. ship it!

cooling off

I played 912 hands today and ran GOD AWFUL for the first 700ish hands being down almost 150 at one point. I just couldnt seem to win a pot.

I took a break for 40 minutes and grabbed some food and tried round two and ran exceptionally well and won back quite a bit and finished -46.50 for the day.

It was difficult for me to take that break, but it obviously made sense. I quit when i did for a couple reasons on my second session. First, i was running amazing for a bit and knew that it probably wouldnt last and would likely downswing a little from what i had. Second, and most important, i had to pee, and it seemed a good time to stop.

I hope to put in another 1k hands or so tomorrow and to have that translate into some good thinking.

I watched a DeathDonkey vid on DC from his Relentless Assault series, and its playing 10/20, so much higher than me right now, so lots of the concepts dont translate totally to my situation, but one i thought was interesting was talking about having super premium hands KK AA etc and being 3bet and whether he caps or not. In position, he likes to cap because he will do it wider than just AA/KK and it gives him more balance when he gets into betting wars. and when the board misses both players he can often take it down unimproved with an Ahigh type hand. On the other hand, being out of position, he says he often doesnt cap because the ip player will cbet like 99% of the time and he can raise the flop regardless and still get4bets in plus probably getting a 5th bet and more in during the hand.

Interesting stuff to be certain.

quick update

played 915 hands today at 29/22/2.4 and won a total of 93.25

I played really well tonight i think, and not just becausei won the ammount that i did. I read some players well and got paid off the best way i could.

Last hand of the day was kinda lame. AA utg raise call call call.

flop T93 bet call call fold. turn 8 bet call call, river 6. puke, check, check, bet, puke again, call call, shows 86 for a runner runner two pair and K9 for being awful at life.

Oh well. Other than that I did some good things. I'm going to do some bankroll management/building in a bit in an effort to move up to 2/4 but to also make sure i see some money from poker and not blast it all back if i run bad.

I'm going to take 20-25% of my roll out this friday and then rebuild it for a bit after thanksgiving. and do the same thing at a slightly higher number. then i will feel comfortable taking a shot at 2/4.

Everytime i talk about cash out plans i run really bad and PS hates me. but pls to not run bad one time after a cash out plan is made.

back to some winning ways

I struggled for a few days, and i think i was running a little badly as well.

Today started off poorly, but I felt i was making good choices and coming out on the wrong side of varience a few times.

I ended up playing 667 hands for a total win of 46.50, which is nice.

I tried to make a few decisions a little bit more deliberately and tried to place people on ranges when i felt it appropriate.

I also read a couple people's souls and caught them bluffing me, which is always fun.

Thats all for now.

EDIT: played second session. now up a ottal of 184 for the day. i love running hot. it makes me feel really good about myself. everything i did turned out well. i hit top pair all the time that held up. i hit straight and flushes and got paid off. i got people to fold when i was bluffing. just magical stuff.

lengthy session

Blog by : Liquid_Quik

put in a long session today. played 1300ish hands and ended up down 19.75

I ran kinda bad. I lost with AK the first 9 times i had it. and ended down over $60 with it.

I think i played well and didnt make toooooooo many bad errors.

The biggest pot i lost, by far, was with AJo. I opened and the bb flatted me. the flop came AJ2 rainbow and we put in3 bets on the flop. the turn was a blank and we, got 4 bets in this time. the river was the magic jack and we got 4 bets in again and he showed me AA. yes! oh well. 4 bets on the turn might be a little spewy. he check raised the turn and i put in the 3rd bet. i probably should just be flatting there? i'm not sure. i guess the only hand he's got is a set or two pair.. or a really poorly played Ace... maybe its not bad.

Anyways. made silverstar for the month and should easily make goldstar at this pace.

Thats all for now.

trip report to River Rock

Blog by : Liquid_Quik

I went over for the day to the river rock casino with my buddy Jake, my girlfriend and his fiance. They went to Ikea and we played cards.

We both bought half stacks at the 1-2 nl table and not a lot happened of note for either of us for the first bit.

I reraised a hyper agressive player and his 3 callers with AQo and took down a $30 pot preflop. I did more or less the same thing against a stradle with QQ and won blinds.

Jake won a decent sized pot pretty early, but i cant remember how. He then had JTo on a QT9 rainbow board and got 5/6 of his chips in on the turn. the river blanked off and he check called off his last 30 to have the other player magically show him ace high. Jake then got into a pot with a HYPER agressive player who opened utg to 10. three players called and jake made it 30 to go. the agressive player called and so did two others. the flop came 3 rags and the UTG player shoved his $150 stack in the middle (into the 130ish pot) and the other players folded. Jake thought for about 10 seconds and made the call. they flipped their cards and the villain showed QQ and jake showed AA and held up.

My day was less exciting. I had AJo in the cutoff and against a straddle and 3 limpers i made it 32 to go. i got one caller in an old lady who played awful. the flop came Kxx and she checked to me. i shoved my last 65 in the pot and she called and showed me a king. I think i probably played that hand badly as she was so passive that she probably checks down with me and i get a show down, or if she bets and i have ace high i know im losing and can get away. oh well.

I rebought and got dealt trash for the next 3.5 hours. I won a couple of really small pots, but nothing really noteworthy.

One hand that i thought was a tiny bit interesting was a hand where i was in the BB with J2dd and got a free flop. it came down QQJ two spades and we checked around 5 ways. the turn was an off suit 4, and i figured i had the best hand a LOT so i bet 6 into the 10 pot. i got one caller and we saw a spade 2 on the river. i wanted to show my hand down but didnt want to pay a big value bet from a flush on the river, so i put out a little blocker bet of 6 again and my one caller looked at me confused for a bit and called me down with KQ for flopped trips. way to play your hand passive.

From there i had 0 playable hands. I had AJ utg once, but folded because its utg. I had 33 and 77 at some point early in the session and got to see cheap flops that i missed. i chopped blinds with a guy once. it was awful. i hate when people complain about being card dead, but i was. it was really tough to fold fold fold. and i was playign on a 50-60 bb stack, so i cant even come in to call a raise with 67 or 78 (which i had once each in early position). I had Kxo so often it made me sick.

I ended up down 96 for the session and then including food/ferry etc it was a 200 dollar day. but it was fun to play in the casino, and i thoguht about playing limit 4/8 or short stacking the 1/2 plo game. but i didnt, next time maybe.

lagging it up too much

Blog by : Liquid_Quik

got kinda crushed in my session this morning. I was playing pretty laggy and i tihnk i need to tighen things back up a bit. less 3betting the UTG raiser and more folding QJ. oh well.

In all i lost 99.25, which is lame, but im up a lot still in like 3 days of limit, so a losing session isnt the end of the world. I'll just regroup and try again later!

learning the ropes

Blog by : Liquid_Quik

Limit is still going really well for me. I think im running pretty hot, but the videos that i have watched on limit are helping a TON.

The players are so awful that its almost shocking.

I'm starting to learn a few flops to just give up on immediately.. especially in a multiway pot. For example, top pair weak kicker of like 9's say, are no good if you decide to go for the check raise from the BB and it goes bet, raise, call. you're never winning there. and usually you're a long way gone.

I'm also starting to see different villain types, and trying to use slightly different lines against them. my default is bet bet bet, but sometimes i can recognise a good spot for a river check call... that kind of thing.

One neat hand that went down was one where i was dealt AA and we capped 3 way preflop. the flop came Kxx rainbow. I was last to act and I saw the action go bet, raise, i 3bet, cap, call call. Turn was also a blank and we again, bet, raise, 3bet, cap call call. The river went bet, call, i raise, call call. They both turned over AK and we hit the ultimate flop when those three hands are involved. they have exactly one out to improve but think their hand is great in a four bet pot when all players are reasonably tight.

In total i played 656 hands at 31//24/2.4 I'm starting to lag it up a bit more and pick good spots to steal and be more agressive. I won $118 on the session, which im stoked on.

After about 4k in hands i am up 320.25, which is 4.03BB./100

I am now also a winner with 10/13 pocket pairs... ive lost money overall with 77, 66, and 44. pretty happy about that.

I'm a winner with all the big aces (when you dont count the difference between suited and unsuited. im a loser with suited AJ, but a winner with offsuit AJ, go figure, haha)

Cool. Thats all for now.

It was my last day of classes ever at university. So im really happy about that. my program is celebrating tonight.

Shirley Temples, here i come!

Blake 'LiquidQuik'

EDIT: Played a second session 369 more hands for an extra profit of $45.25 ez game.
