US vs CHINA bandwidth war (also involves future of online poker)

So today China decided to block all search engine requests and redirect them to baidu.com a Chinese owned (NASDAQ listed) search engine. So if you are in China and you type in www.google.com you will be redirected to www.baidu.com.
Now, this shouldn't really surprise anybody. China has long since been disregarding trade rules, and censoring everything its people see. However this is a clear violation of free trade, China expecting to be able to export its goods and services (and even bandwidth counts as one of these) now is blocking and essentially sanctioning foreign bandwidth so that its own (Baidu) can reign the Chinese markets as a monopoly. So clearly China wants it both ways which is going to be a problem if they want to remain part of the WTO.
Glancing at my blog title you are probably wondering what this has to do with poker. Well as you can recall recently the US has gotten in to trouble with the WTO involving Antigua. The US offering gambling (sports betting, casinos ect.) inside its own country placed a ban which led to the departure of various off shore online gambling websites in the US market. These websites being based out of Antigua generated a substantial portion of its GDP and went to the WTO for recourse. Since this the US has been vary lax in resolving this issue almost as if the US believes that the GATS treaty they signed in the 90s was only supposed to apply to other countries and not their own.
So, US being a bad member of the WTO and China being a new member what will happen with this sequence of events? Well we must hope that someting is done and this rapidly developing industry is accounted for, because if its not there will be billions of dollars and lots of utility lost around the world. As of right now China continues to determine what its people see and do, if other countries were allowed to do this, think of the player base that the online poker community would lose if other countries closed off outside poker sites access to its citizens. I think the future of the world economy rests at least somewhat in the upcoming results of this "war" China is declaring on US search engines right now.

balancing life poker/school/athletics

2 days ago I had a rough session playing 2/4 and 3/6 on 11 tables, i was down 2600 at one point do to pure rediculousness, I mounted a comeback and finished -1300 before I had to leave to go study b/c our team GPA is the worst in athletic department. This leads me to my topic of this entry...

Balancing school/poker is hard enough, however throw in the fact that I have to put in "20hrs" (my NCAA regs, but its really much more) a week for wrestling, it gets to be pretty tough. Dont get me wrong wrestling is IT for me I love it, I cant get a better high than winning wreslting matches in front of tons of people. It just sucks that I cant play for even 2 horus every day b/c of everything going. so...

My goals for this school year (7 months roughly) are

1) GPA > 3.4 (I goto UW-madison and classes are hard)

2) Rehab arm and earn starting spot by big ten duals (I just had complicated surgery on my ulner nerve)

3) Make > 100k playing poker

Doctor just cleared me to lift weights, have 2 tests and 1 paper next week, and was +10.5k last month only playing 53 hours of poker. So If i can play more poker, study harder, and workout more I think I can accomplish all 3.

End of the month

Im moving my blog to the CR website now, http://mindlessgrind.blogspot.com/ thats the link to my old blog.

I knew going in to this month that it was going to be really tough to balance poker with everything else going on in my life (college wrestling, and school). I think i've been doing a good job, keeping up with studies and working hard in the room. Last night i played a 6 hour session of mixed 1/2 and 2/4 (8-12 tables) trying to get unstuck and was all over the place. Lost some rather large pots with >90% equity and was just running awfull.

But whenever I feel bad about how a session went or w/e, i just reflect back on my month and then I feel better about my self. So thats what im gonna do, these are the stats from this month I haven't played nearly as much each week but i've gotten in close to 50 hours and i might play some more this weekend but i doubt it.

side note: ppl that play fullring are terrible at playing 2-4 handed and i think thats party why my win rate is alot higher (im allways sitting alone trying to start tables).

For next month im going to work on beating the .02/.05nl games!!!
