Feeling out the 400NL HU games...

Blog by : Klovnen

Started out yesterday, playing really badly, donking away about 1,2k in the 400NL 6-max games. Dont know what happened, just felt like I got pushed alot around. I usually dont get frustrated by beeing card-dead, but seemed like I tilted a bit (making some horrible plays at the end of the session).

Decided to play some HU later on, and won about 1,8k. Had an intresting match with Eric Froehlich and was quite suprised to see how loose and passive he played. Guess it prob is because he is mainly a limit player... :/ Continued to play some HU today and won about 1,5k more. Right now I am too tired to write any analysis from the sessions, but I will hopefully post some hands later on. Take care.

OK, Im back... (as BlackZoda)

Blog by : Klovnen

Havent posted for a long time. A lot of stuff happened the last month or so, but now im finally ready to start posting again. At the moment Im not playing under the username "Klovnen" at FTP, but playing 400NL as "BlackZoda". The reason is that a railbird I gave $200 or so about a year ago (becasue of his cool nick, hehe), sold one of his companys for alot of money and decided to return the favor and stake me for 400NL (is that whats called karma? :p). I guess the moral is that if you first decide to give away money, give it away to someone with a cool nick :).

Just played about 15k hands so far, and had a slow start playing quite badly (didnt think it would take so long to adjust back too the 2/4 games). Anyways the last few days both my play and results have worked out great after making a few adjustments. Not a huge profit so far, but 3,3k is better than nothing.

Yesterday something weird happened though. As I had about $500 involved in pots (with VERY strong hands) on three tables my computer decided to shut down. When I was back nearly my whole profit from the session was gone (folded out on all tables). Utter frustrating when something like that happens, so I decided to not play anymore and open a bottle of wine (the reason im a little bit slow this morning, and prob have to wait an hour or so before I start playing).

Bad session

Blog by : Klovnen
0

Started out with just playing 500 hands this morning session. Dropped down $280, and played far from optimal even if Ithink some of the spots werent as bad as they seemed. They werent coolers, but some read-based spots I stepped a little bit wrong in, like pushing JJ in a spot where I usually would fold it, running into KK. Add that up with a few beats against the bader players on the tables, and the result doesnt look very nice. Seem like I dont play very well early in the morning, so prob should use some more time to wake up and get ready before I start playing.

Coffee and Cigarettes

Blog by : Klovnen

Really did help to go out and get some coffe and breakfast. Was even a cute girl who came by and wanted to flirt, so I ended up in quite a good mood. Anyway, played 700 hands more of 100NL and won $160, and was really satisfied with my play. On two of my tables one of the better regs I have played with on 100NL sat directly to my left (I know, I dont care too much about table selection playing 100NL. Actually I like to have one or two regs there, to keep me sharp...), making things a bit difficult, but it also resulted in some intressting hands. Here is one:

Seat 1: pRAISEit ($41.85) -
Seat 2: Farriscn ($37.50) -
Seat 3: craigmarq ($106)
Seat 5: Hero ($110.15)
Seat 6: Freudian Bet ($95) -

PRE-FLOP:

pRAISEit posts small blind $0.50
Farriscn posts BIG blind $1
Dealt To: Hero

FOLD craigmarq
RAISE Hero ($3.50)
RAISE Freudian Bet ($12)
FOLD pRAISEit
FOLD Farriscn
CALL Hero ($8.50)

Villian does not 3-bet too much, but certanly three-bet light enough to usually make AQo a call here. Seems he usually have a value-based range here, but dont like to 4-bet here as I will chase out hands I have dominated, basically turning my hand into a bluff unless I have some sick table-image. It also helps me balance my 3-bet calling range.

FLOP:

Pot: $25.5

CHECK Hero
BET Freudian Bet ($17)
RAISE Hero ($40)
RAISE Freudian Bet ($83)
CALL Hero ($43)

The standard play here is def just to check-call, but knowing villian is a thinking player, he know Im capable of turning a small pocket-pair or a suited connector into a check-raise bluff or semi-bluff on a flop like this, as all pocket-pairs except AA and 99 would have a hard time standing the heat here. He also know that I often will 4-bet AK pre-flop, so there is not a lot of hands I can rep, except T9s, 98s or something. I had also been playing quite nitty for a while on this table, so I thought he expected me to make a move soon. Therfore I choosed to check-raise for value, hoping to induce a bluff or a thin push with a high pocket pair, and It turned out to work very well. Cute . This is by the way a good example of range-merging (see my article on value-based and polarized ranges). As villian expect me to have a polarized range here, mixing it up by making thinner value-raises from time to time can pay nicely off.

TURN:

Pot: $191.5

RIVER:

Pot: $191.5

SHOWDOWN:
Freudian Bet:

Hero:

Hero collected $188.5 from main pot with a full house, Nines full of Aces

Still recovering from saturday night

Blog by : Klovnen

Just played a small morning 100NL session of 370 hands, and won $75. Was up quite a bit more before I run into a small beat (two pair vs str8 draw ai on the turn). Think I played well, but have a little bit of a problem concentrating, prob because I over-slept after the rather heavy saturday night. Still planning on playing at least 3k hands today, but have to get out and get me some breakfast, a coffe and reading the newspaper to clear up my mind first.

Played two $100 sattelites to the 1millG on FTP, and busted quite early in one of them. In the other I got the into the money, but busted on the place before you qualifie (winning $350 or so...) because I saw wrong in the lobby (thought I had qualified), pushing 54o utg... sometimes you just feel so stupid its no fun. Well, well, guess I shouldnt be playing more tonight after doing something like that, so just take my $130 profit and call it a night...

Pain

Blog by : Klovnen

Totally exhausted today after drinking far too much yesterday. Was out watching some friends of mine who played a concert just a few blocks away from where I live. They just won a big music contest (alarm prisen), so there has been a little bit of a hype around them lately. Will be exciting to see how it goes when they start touring in february. Woke up quite early today with the headache of the year. Ordered a pizza and watched a movie, planning on doing absolutly nothing for the rest of the day.

Quite funny that you can see the nationality of all the players on FTP now. Seem like the sterotypes fit quite well. Loads of LAGy scandis, german nits and donks form the us :). Think I will play a few sattelites to the 1millG on FTP tonight, but arent going to play any cashgame sessions. Had an "experimantal" session of about 350 hands at 200NL yesterday, where I played super LAGy (35/32). It worked out very well since nobody played back at me. I won about $400, after I stopped the session losing $250 on a very poorly played hand (TPTK vs a set). At this point I understood I started to get too drunk. This session was mostly for fun, so arent going to include it as a part of my small-stakes project. Tomorrow I will go back to playing four 100NL tables. Think I have been a little bit too lazy lately, and played too few hands the last few days, so hopefully I will manage to play at least 3k hands on average each day the next week. Will be great if I manage to play all 30k hands before desmber 24.

First losing session as 100NL

Blog by : Klovnen

Stopped my morning session after 575 hands as I went down from a profit of $100 to a loss of $150 in a few hands. Some of it was due to bad play, but also lost a 300bb pot on a beat. I also experimented with a few new adjustments, that I acctually felt worked out quite well. Guess I start out a new session in about an hour or so, and write a combined entry about this session and the next later on.

Though session

Blog by : Klovnen

Had to take a break after 800 hands of 100NL, had some really though decisions and think I made quite a few unprecise chooses, so guess it is better to cool down a bit and continue later. Didnt have more time in any of my timebanks either (usually I barley uses them playing 100NL). Think I started to give away some timing tells too, as I started to get quite exhausted. Won about $45, but feel it should have been much more... Just to take an example:

Seat 1: jjl80 ($96.50)
Seat 2: Hero ($204)
Seat 3: Tagalag ($100)
Seat 4: NevarBluffin ($196.40) -
Seat 5: SweetOldBroad ($97.50) -
Seat 6: evie lee ($158.05) -

PRE-FLOP:

SweetOldBroad posts small blind $0.50
evie lee posts BIG blind $1
Dealt To: Hero

FOLD jjl80
RAISE Hero ($3.50)
FOLD Tagalag
FOLD NevarBluffin
FOLD SweetOldBroad
CALL evie lee ($2.50)

FLOP:

Pot: $7.5

BET evie lee ($5)
CALL Hero ($5)

Villian was a 32/11 who donk-betted alot with all kinds of holdings, he also usually followed up on the turn. I clearly could raise too, since there are alot of scary turn cards, but that would kind of turn my hand into a bluff. Think it is better to call, and induce more bets from villian.

TURN:

Pot: $17.5

BET evie lee ($12)
CALL Hero ($12)

Bad turn-card. Villian could very well have a Q here, but his range is still very wide. Call is the only option.

RIVER:

Pot: $41.5

BET evie lee ($30)
FOLD Hero
UNCALLED evie lee ($30)

Another bad card, as a flush draw is a big part of his range. I only beat a bluff now. Was twisting my mind here to try to come up with about how often I would beat villians range here, but it was really though, especially since I had some though spots at two other tables too. In retrospect I think I have a clear call (even think Im a favouritte against his range...) but ended up folding. Blah...

Burn, baby burn!

Blog by : Klovnen

Played a new session of about 1,3k hands. After beeing burned in an inferno of coolers and beats for the 200 first hands, dropping down $430, I were quite satisfied with ending the session with about $70 in plus (and a total plus of $490 so far today). The fluctions didnt bother me much, as I felt I played very solid poker. After my first 5k hands playing four tables of 100NL my win-rate is now 11BB/100, slightly more than I excpect it to be when I reach 30k hands. Well, well, time to get some dinner. If I feel ready for it I will play a new session later, but I feel a bit tired right now. Im not going to make a habit out of posting beats, but since I didnt play too many interessting hands this session (and it makes me feel a little bit better ), here is one:

Seat 1: snorripj ($33.20)
Seat 2: Nylle79 ($97.10)
Seat 3: Loiosh ($122.70) -
Seat 4: Beaten_Battered ($100) -
Seat 5: mdoom ($104.30) -
Seat 6: Hero ($210.05)

PRE-FLOP:

Beaten_Battered posts small blind $0.50
mdoom posts BIG blind $1
Dealt To: Hero

RAISE Hero ($3.50)
FOLD snorripj
FOLD Nylle79
FOLD Loiosh
RAISE Beaten_Battered ($12)
FOLD mdoom
CALL Hero ($8.50)

FLOP:

Pot: $25

BET Beaten_Battered ($17)
CALL Hero ($17)

TURN:

Pot: $59

BET Beaten_Battered ($35)
RAISE Hero ($112.50)
CALL Beaten_Battered ($36)
UNCALLED Hero ($41.50)

RIVER:

Pot: $201

SHOWDOWN:

Beaten_Battered:

Beaten_Battered collected $198 from main pot with a straight, Ace high
