Well as the New Year rolls in, my bankroll rolled out, dropping a cool 1300, which is almost everything I had. I've got a nice 400 left in my account, but that's ok. I pretty much cheated to get all of that money, so I deserved to lose it, and was playing with fire. Playing way outside my BR in 200 PLO. I don't know where my master plan got derailed. I got caught up with the money somewhere along the lines, and started going crazy for it... if I had a red session I'd immediately chase my losses. If I reach a "high point" with my BR, that's my new target, and if I fall below it, I feel behind. I was checking my balance throughout each session, looking for big changes hoping to see big numbers. Ugh, what a fool I am.
So really I am back to square one, at 10 NLHE.... which isn't really too bad of a thing, since I got to where I was through cheap tricks and not hard work. I think it will be good for me to grind out the levels, and my plan, is more of a static time based plan, and not a money based plan. I think this will help me get rid of my infatuation with "how much money" I have in my account.... Because you see, I was very eager to move up the levels... so I wanted to get to my next benchmark as quickly as I could. With a time based progression it will hopefully remove that mentality.
My plan, is to move up one level per month, starting at 10nl. I'd like to put in at least 30,000 hands per level, and would like to have at least 30 buyins for the next level, before I make the move. I think all of these little milestones will help me in the long run, and get me used to having a losing session, seeing red numbers here and there, and just get me in the right state of mind for the ebb and flow of this game. I just wish I had the self control to apply this earlier, because even earlier I told myself I would do a plan similar to this, but that plan was purely monetary. Even so, I did not stick to it.
My old progression plan was move up when I hit 30 buyins for the next level. Of course, I didn't wait. And as soon as I had a losing session I was at the 200nl and 200plo games. Luckily more often than not I came out way ahead from these games, and that's what has been keeping me afloat all this time, the profits I made from those. I just wish I coulda stopped when I was ahead from those and got back on my original game plan. Oh well, money lost is a lesson learned. I don't need to be doing that shit anyway, it ruins my discipline, when I get positive results from breaking such fundamental rules.
So yes, I am going to do the slow grind, and maybe by the end of this year I'll be up at 400nl. I will keep track of my progress in this blog, and hopefully all goes well! Let the journey begin!
