If you are looking for quality room but don,t want to pay full rate, then try Craigslist.

I managed to book into Signature at MGM Grand for $480 for 4 nights.

If i booked direct with MGM, it was going to cost $970

At last the Trop steps it up

Since i came to Vegas i have played in most of the cardrooms & oddly, i have taken a real shine for the Tropicana at the south end of the strip.

The room runs a 9 handed $1-2 game & i have had some good results at their tables.

There are a real mix of people to pit your wits against & as a result, the room has been a great learning ground for me over the last few months.

At the moment, the room has a $3 rake, but they have decided to increase this and start providing monthly freerolls and high hand jackpots.

The reason for the change is partly due to feedback from the players, so thanks to the poker room team for listening.

If you visit the room, ask for me (Glasgow Jim) & i can help you with your Vegas questions (especially where to avoid).

As an added bonus, if Doug is working (he is the card room supervisor), ask him to tell you one of his many poor jokes.

The game is a $40 min & $200 max, so you don't have to put much on the felt to have a real good time.

Hope to see you there.

I feel compelled to add that i went to a karaoke bar with Doug last week & the guy has missed his calling, he was fantastic!

Questionable mucked hand

Blog by : GlasgowJim

What is your view on the following that happened in a Las Vegas casino a couple of weeks ago.

Two players were heads up (the 7 seat had taken advantage of the complimentary drinks) when the following situation arose between the 6 and 7 seats, with the six seat being first to act.

There was a pre flop raise by 7 seat & 6 seat called.
A half pot bet was made by 7 seat & 6 seat called.

The turn was checked and a half pot bet was made by 7 seat with 6 seat calling on the river.

The 6 seat turned over a king high as he felt the 7 seat was on a stone cold bluff, but the 7 seat then threw his cards forward as though giving the hand up (his cards never hit the muck though).

One of the other players at the table asked what the 7 seat was holding & the 7 seat reached and turned his cards over showing an ace high.

Another player not involved in the hand pointed out that the ace was actually the winner & the dealer awarded the pot to the 7 seat (drunk guy).

The 6 seat called the card room supervisor, who agreed that the dealers actions were correct and awarded the pot to the 7 seat as the dealer had not taken the 7 seats cards and his cards had not hit the muck.

Was this the correct ruling as the 7 seat clearly threw his cards forward in a motion that i interpreted as giving his hand up.

Your thoughts on this will be well received.

Need an immigraton attorney

Blog by : GlasgowJim

After making the 5000 mile trip from UK to Vegas every other month, i decided to quit my job & move there to play poker & become a real student of the game.

Since December 07, i have played $1-$2 N/L H six nights a week & have experienced +/- swings, but currently 1.5k to the good. (mind you, one of the employees at the local McDonalds likes to rub it in that he earns more than me).

I have gained a wealth of experience against tight & loose players along with table bullies & drunks & won and lost against them all, but learned against all of them.

I enter the U.S. through a Visa Waiver program, which allows me to stay in this great place for 90 days at a time.

The nice people at immigations informed me when i came through in March, that after this 90 days are up, i will not be allowed back into the country for 6 months & they have noted it on their data base incase i try to come through another city.

Worst is that i will not be allowed to stay for the main event of WSOP!!!!!!!

On going to see an attorney, "Get Married" was the advice!!!!

Is there another way that anyone knows of ,as i do not want to miss this years WSOP.

True story from 2003 WSOP

Blog by : GlasgowJim
0

I was able to watch the final table of the 2003 WSOP & managed to find a gap in the audience in the front row.

I stood next to an old guy called Ray, who informed me that the spot i was standing in was reserved for his wife, but she had recently passed away.

I offered my condolences & he seemed quite pleased to have someone to talk to. He went on to tell me that he was a huge fan of Sammy Farha, & he and his wife would always cheer him on at big events they attended.

He went on to say that he really missed the conversations with his wife about Sam's hand selection & trying to work out what his hole cards were.

Ray then went on to say that attending events and watching Sammy play would not be the same since his wife passed away, but he would still attend because of his love of the game.

I suggested that he should have invited a close friend or relative to this event to soften the sense of loss of his late wife.

He turned round and looked at me in a flash & stated that he could not do that.............. because they were all attending the funeral.

Now that is a true fan of the game...
