Anybody?

Playing Blind

Blog by : Davega

Sometimes I feel like a blind man in a continuously changing environment. That's how my poker seems to be going right now. My game is missing on all 8 cylinders. I call when I should raise. I stay in pots when I'm drawing dead. I fold the best hands. Arrrrggh. Really pisses me off. I've seen my cash drindle to where I'm probably playing desparate. I say cash because it's not high enough to really be a bank roll. When it's gone, I'll simply reload.

This may be the worst part of my game....bank roll management. Simply, I don't manage mine well. I play at stakes above my bankroll and am actually surprised when it doesn't hold up. Yes. It's official. I'm a moron in this respect. I have to do better.

Starting Over

Blog by : Davega

I'm a 42 yr old man who has started over in many aspects in my life. I've had different careers. I've been married 3x. So starting over is nothing new. The best part is I've always improved my situation every time I started over. So now it's time to start over with poker.

I've always played cards. I grew up with my parents playing everything from bridge to canasta. So any card game seemed to come naturally. I've always excelled at any card game that I played. Then along came poker. I figured it would be the same. I played some while I was in the Air Force but nothing serious....just some small home games with the guys. Then came online poker. I knew about it but had never thought about playing that much. With it's growth and rise in popularity, I decided to give it a go.

Like a lot of players, I started on Party Poker. I started with the Play Money games and built up 14 million in chips. But play money chips can't buy anything so I thought I'd play some Real Money games. I deposited on a Friday and began crushing the tables. By Saturday night, I'd built $100 up to $1400. I couldn't miss. I was hitting every flop, every draw. Then reality set in. I started missing flops and missing draws. It took 2 weeks but I managed to blow it all.

Since then, I've deposited way too many times on way too many sites. I always seem to be the guy suffering the bad beats. I've also had some success online. I've cashed in some MTTs and have withdrawn from a few sites. I won a seat to the 2006 WSOP ME but bubbled on Day 3 when I flopped a boat and my opponent turned a bigger boat. But online cash games have raped me on a regular basis.

B&M cash games have been a balancing act. Up one session....down the next. The tourneys have been a different story. I've cashed in around 40% of the tourneys that I've played. I've played in 6 WSOP Circuit preliminary events and cashed in 3. I genuinely believe that it's just a matter of time before I win one.

So that's my game. I'm a little weak in cash games but stronger in tournament poker. So I'm starting my online play over. I'm hoping to learn a lot here on CR. I've read all of the blogs. I haven't taken the plunge and joined yet.......but the key word is yet.
