Plunging into Razz

Someone said that by becomming a better poker player you will become a better person. Playing poker, I discovered that I am impatient. I make boredome raises in NL cashgames, I browse the internet in between hands and I often ignore the traffic lights when I am on my bicycle. I also love to take shots at higher stakes.

Controversially, I recently made the decision to focus my poker studies on Razz. A game that requires a lot of patience to play. With this decision I hope I to learn the fundamental conceps of poker through the game of Razz while also working on my discipline to play a rather boring game and possibly cure my insomnia. David Sklansky states in his book on Razz that the game illustrates the fundamental conceps of poker without getting deeply into handreading. Many say the game requires the least skill of all poker games, while others say it is the purest form of poker of all. I suspect that allthough learning to understand Razz should be easy, it will require a lot of discpline and patience to sustain the quality of play and keep emotions in controll. These are the areas I'd like to improve in along with learning fundamental poker theory.

Another reason for me to learn Razz is H.O.R.S.E. I have been doing well in the low limit mixed side games on PokerStars lately. I have also discovered that I like the Stud games more than I like Texas Hold'em. One reason is the information that is available on the board which makes the mathematical play way more reliable than in Hold'em. In an eight handed game the first round of betting starts with ten exposed cards, as oposed to two cards in Hold'em. Learning to skillfully take exposed cards into mathematical consideration is something else I want to learn while playing Razz. Later in my studies I can use this when learning Stud high and Stud Eight or better.

I am playing Razz at both Poker Stars and Full Tilt at the 0,50/1,00 and 1,00/2,00 limits. Occasianally I play H.O.R.S.E. cash games and 2-7 triple draw. I'd like to go back to improving my Hold'em game some day. But for now my game of focus is Razz.
