Some live action....

The start to my series has been a really bad one with me losing 235k. One evening I played 200/400 PLO, losing 115k, and tonight I played 100/200 with 400 on the button NLH. I think I played well except for the evening of playing PLO where I got a bit tired towards the end of the session. I made one or two plays that I don't think I would have made if well rested. That said they weren't anything horrible, just things like defending my big blind with AJJ8 suited to the jack. Not a huge leak but definitely one.

Basically in the PLO game I lost two 120k pots too a player who primarily plays online. He opened UTG in an 8-handed game and I reraised with AAQ9 double suited on the button. The flop was a good one for me coming down 932 with two backdoor draws flush draws. My opponent checked, I bet 8k which was close to pot, and he called. The turn was a 5 giving me a flush draw. Again my opponent checked and I bet 20k. He went all in and I called another 30k or so. He had AKJ4 and I didn't hit my flush on the river.

The next big hand I lost he opened from the CO and the button 3 bet the pot. I held 5678ds (I think don't quite remember my hand) and 4 bet the pot. Then the CO repoted and the button folded. At this point I knew he had aces but I had to good of odds to fold. I flatted and we got the final 20k in on a 245 with my flush draw flop making a 120k pot. I bricked out.

Tonight in the NLH game I played two big pots. The first I had AK of hearts in a 7 handed game and there was a live strattle on. A loose aggressive player limped next to act and I raised to 3k with AKs. It folded back to the UTG player who reraised to 12k. I shoved for 60k and he snap called with AA. I think my play is fine against this player though there are some players I would fold this too.

The final hand of the evening was against a player who I have played with some in the past online. He opened to 800 from the CO and I defended from the big blind with 86 of spades. The flop was 652 with a flush draw. I checked and he bet 1500 and I called. The turn was an 8 not completing the flush, and I checked again. I really don't like my play on this street and would have much preferred leading the turn. My opponent bet 4400 and I check raised to 16k. He thought for a bit and called. The river was an off suit queen and I bet 40k. Again I don't love my play and would have preferred to bet a bit less. He thought for a minute and called with 88.

So overall I think I played really well the past two days and got in some tough spots. I am supposed to head out to California Wednesday, but I may delay my trip. I will see how tomorrow goes. Maybe taking a break will be good for me.

May turned out to be a good month for me. I won 150k in online cash game and won 63k in tournaments. I lost 105k the PLO game the last day of the month souring it a bit. Hopefully I can have a great June with the live cash games running during the series.

13th in the 40k

Blog by : Brian

I am really happy with how I played today. I was very short most of the day and completely card dead. There were many aggressive players who were opening tons of pots, but I never had a any type of hand to resteal from them. Even things like QJs would have been enough for me but it was 73o and 62o all day long. I tried not to get frustrated at being blinded down and finally picked up AQs, but unfortunately for me Greg Raymer had AA. I was lucky enough to make a flush and double up. After that it was back to shoving and I did that a few times picking up some nice pots.

On my final hand it was folded to me on the button and I shipped 76o on the button and got called in two places by Alec Torelli's TT and the big blind over called with QQ. I think my play is slightly positive chip wise, but really increases my variance. I would have preferred raise folding as Alec would resteal lightly but I doubted the big blind would. Anyways I am not going to worry about the hand to much.

I just stopped by the bellagio and there is a nice 200/400 PLO game running so I am going to go play in it.

Day two of the 40k

Blog by : Brian
0

I woke up this morning after sleeping for only 3 or 4 hours and all I wanted to do was play poker. I fired up stars and fulltilt and put in about a two hour session winning 20k. This month has really picked up and I have recovered nicely from my little downswing mid month. I was about even last week but now I am up 100k in cash games and 75k in tourneys/crossbooking, plus whatever else I win tomorrow if I can go deeper.

Here I flop the nut flush draw in a three bet pot and suckout.

http://weaktight.com/1165387

Now this is a draw, how do I miss, so sick.

http://weaktight.com/1165388

Aces in a big pot.

http://weaktight.com/1165389

After playing some poker, I hit the gym for an hour and went to the tourney. I ended the day at about the chips I started with. I won a few big pots early with AK on a A87 flop in a four bet pot against Mark Seif. I think won a flip against Whitelime with TT vs his AKs. I was up to about 1.5 million in chips when I went completely card dead. I didn't pick up a hand for about 3 levels. Every time I raised I got reraised or my c-bets were check raised allin when I held nothing. Not much you can do and the blinds were so big the swings are huge. So I was widdled down to 700k where I ended the day. I am looking forward to tomorrow when we play down from 24 players to the final 9.

Day one of 40k

Blog by : Brian
0

I ended day one of the 40k WSOP event with 609k in chips. I wasn't getting much credit all day and getting called down lightly. Early in the day I reraised a French player with 42s and checked a A84 all club flop. The turn was great as it was a 4 and I got two streets of value from his ace.

Beyond this I won and lost two flips against short stacks, once when I held KQ against FBT's 99 and losing with AK to the french players TT. So I hung around 200k for most of the day. Then in the last round as the blinds began increasing I grew my stack to about 300k when I coolered Whitelime with my aces when he held kings.

One thing that really shocked me was the poor play in the tournament. Some players who are well respected in the poker communities played very poorly today. It really surprised me how people who would never consider losing 40k in a cash game ponyed up the money for the tournament. I think tournaments are better for that gamblers mentality as people love the idea of buying in for 40k and winning 2million while cash games don't have that upside potential. I would have expected the play to be much higher in a tournament with this type of buy in.

Sorry for the short entry, but I am beat and gonna crash.

Itch to play

Blog by : Brian

I arrived in Vegas yesterday and I really want play poker. The 40k event starts in 30 min and all I want to do is play some poker. Its funny how much I love playing poker even though I play so much. I woke up today all excited because I knew I was going to play poker all day today.

I also just finished up my high stakes Friday video and I am a bit disappointed in it. I had plans for it to be amazing and it just turned out okay. The concepts are great and really important but I ran out of time on some of the calculations and some of my poker stove ranges are a bit off. It doesn't change the outcome of the hand or really effect the concepts I was teaching, it just pisses me off a bit not doing things the best I can. If I get busted from the tourney I am going to redo the video.

Last night I played a long 100/200 session. I ended up winning about 70k. Here are some of the big pots I played.

Getting it in bad.

I am not to happy with this one, got to think about it a bit.

http://weaktight.com/1162339

Sucking out on aces.

Anyways I am off to the 40k and can't wait to play.

Roller coaster of a month

Blog by : Brian
0

First I have been working on part two of a video that will be out this Friday. I think it will be very good as I have put alot of time into it. It is a powerpoint presentation again detailing a 100/200 NLH hand I played a few months ago. I am going to do my best to keep the analysis short and concise as I know how boring videos can be. I am hoping it will be well received.

I am getting ready for Vegas. I head out tomorrow to play the 40k event. I moved back my arrival date so I won't have much time before the event. I get into Vegas at 2pm and have to get all my money sorted out before the event starts the next morning. Hopefully I will have time, but if I am feeling jet lagged or stressed I may skip it.

The past few days have been a complete roller coaster. I feel like I have been winning and losing huge amounts everyday. I am basically break even on the month and have had 4 or 5 +/-100k days this month and I think much of it is due to these PLO games with an ante. There was awhile where I wasn't playing great, but the past few days I have played my best.

Yesterday I had a great day winning 120k. I played some 100/200 and 25/50, but most of my hands came at 50/100.

Here I win a big pot at 25/50 which I suckout.

http://weaktight.com/1153041

Not much to say here.

http://weaktight.com/1153043

I played DIN_FRU heads up again and did well against him. He is a very tricky aggressive opponent. Here are a few of the larger pots we played.

http://weaktight.com/1153051

http://weaktight.com/1153058

http://weaktight.com/1153060

I also played some 6 max 50/100 with an ante. Here I get a great flop for my kings.

http://weaktight.com/1153052

http://weaktight.com/1153053

http://weaktight.com/1153054

http://weaktight.com/1153061

Here is a fun one. Ziig really read my soul here. I still had 30% equity though. He left quickly after this hand.

http://weaktight.com/1153056

Unfortunately today things didn't go my way and I ended up losing 45k. All my play was pretty standard. That's poker and definitely omaha. I didn't play all that many large pots, I just wasn't making hands in small ones and was getting raised alot.

This is the sort of hand that was happening to me today...

http://weaktight.com/1153064

I don't know how I like my line in that hand against OMGClay. I am going to give it some thought tonight.

A bluff that didn't work.

http://weaktight.com/1153066

There were a few more hands at 25/50 I lost, but overall it was just a day where I couldn't get anything going and lost the really big pots and didn't win any large pots. It happens and hard to have good short term results when it does.

Meh...

Blog by : Brian

First sorry I haven't posted in a while, I have been a bit disinterested in poker the past week. Its shown in my play as I think I have played my C game this month. Its also shown in my results with a break even month. I have just lacked focus and not really wanted to play, so I have put in less hands this month than any of the prior six months.

I want to talk about a few HU sessions I played in the past week. One was against DIN_FRU. He was a very aggressive opponent who like to reraise preflop. In our first battle he crushed me, winning about 80k in a hundred hands.

Here I really hate my flop bet sizing. Hastings pointed this out to me and I agree completely.

http://weaktight.com/1142804

Losing a coinflip...

http://weaktight.com/1142805

Here he makes a very good call on me. I don't hate my bluff though.

http://weaktight.com/1142807

This hand tilted me so hard.

http://weaktight.com/1142810

So after the last hand he had to go eat dinner. We then played the following day, which was a much better result for me.

Here I get lucky and suck out on aces.

http://weaktight.com/1142814

Again I get a great flop, but put alot of money in preflop as an underdog.

http://weaktight.com/1142817

Here I get called down lightly.

http://weaktight.com/1142818

So in total I think I ended up about even against DIN_FRU. I think we will be playing more in the future.

Last night I played Patrik in the Friday night lights event for FullTilt. It was a very quick match since it was a 100BB freezeout. Here is the final hand where I get lucky.

http://weaktight.com/1142824

Tonight I play the FTP 25K HU tournament. I am actually looking forward to playing it and really focusing on my play. I think it will be a nice break from my normal cash games.

Rebound

Blog by : Brian
0

I had a nice rebound today winning 50k. It felt great after that terrible day yesterday. I think it just goes to show how big the swings are in PLO. The swings in HU PLO are even greater. I would say that 20BI swings in HU PLO are very common particular if one player begins to tilt.

To much money in preflop to consider folding.

http://weaktight.com/1096753

I am not big on hero calls, but this one just had to be made.

http://weaktight.com/1096756

Here is one I lost. Calling seems a bit weak with so many draws out.

Hopefully these games keep running.

Brutal day....

Blog by : Brian
0

I just had a brutal day in PLO. I played 2400 hands and lost 110k. I think I played well but after a certain point you sometimes don't know. Its really frustrating when you feel you play well and just get crushed. I know this is PLO and I have had days similar in the past and always bounce back. It just shows the insane variance that I could run at -62bb/100 over this sample and be up around 9 bb/100 on the year.

I think one thing I have really improved is my game slection this year. I have been really diligent about not playing in terrible games. I still play in some games that aren't amazing. Today there were some amazing games, against some people I consider to not be great. I found one thing I do to improve my game is to verbalize what mistakes my opponents are making. So while playing I would say, things like "my edge in this game is from my opponent who doesn't three bet much" or "My opponent only barrels the flop but gives up to much if called." I find this is a really good strategy for identifying your edge in games. I think its particually helpful in HU games.

As for my month I am up about 15k because of some nice wins at 200/400 and 100/200. I hope I can bounce back, but tonight was really brutal. I am looking forward to tomorrow and putting in alot of hands.

Here is the final hand I played and I quit. This was by far the worse hand I played on the day and beyond this I think all my plays were defensible/good. This was just a spew preflop where I should have folded, but I think I was a bit tilted and I insta quit after this.

Some days poker just doesn't go your way....

Slow month

Blog by : Brian
0

Games have been pretty slow this month, with little action above 25/50.

I have played 8500 hands so far and am up 43k for a win rate of just under 5bb/100. I have had some really tough sessions so far this month. I feel as though I have really run under expectation with AAxx type of hands. I have had many 4 bet pots with them, or even all in's preflop that I just can't manage to win.

Hands like these have seem to happen alot this month.

http://weaktight.com/1080228

http://weaktight.com/1080229

http://weaktight.com/1080235

That said I have been sucking out on people some as well, it just feels like its the other way. But people remember when they get sucked out on more than when they suckout on someone else. I may be doing that a bit, who knows.

Here are some of me sucking out, so I dunno...

Sorry Eric....

http://weaktight.com/1080240

A good call by my opponent...

http://weaktight.com/1080242

Anyways, I hope the games pick up as there has been little action above 25/50 this month.
