Successful Day of Grinding

0

Hey guys, put in a really strong grinding day of poker. Per the suggestion of one of my buddies, I dropped down in limits for a few days to regain my confidence and take advantage of some weak players. I ended up making about 8.5bi over 4800 hands. Here is a quick recap of the losers.

Totally gross

So a pretty confusing hand here. First of all, I only played 5 hands with this guy, he 3bet me once already, and failed in a double barrel spot with no equity so I felt pretty comfortable that he was trying to run me over and wanted to show some aggression against what I perceived to be a light 3betting range. With that said, I can definitely get behind what one of my buddies said and simply fold preflop until I know a little bit more about him. As played I can definitely tell you I spent the first 5 seconds pretty amazed he made this play. From there my immediate thought was that his range was absolutely capped at 1 pair hands. Therefore I thought I had at least 11 outs against almost all hands here, and I did think with such a weird line, he could have some worse draws including 98, 86, T9, here, as well as one or two lower flush draws, as well as his QJ/JT/J9/TT/99/88/AQ type hands. I played with his ranges some here, but I think a realistic scenario puts me about a 45% dog and thus justifies this call. When you add in the additional ev that I thought if I won this hand he would be tilted and more likely to bluff off more money to me I thought it was a tough but necessary call.

Had a long conversation about this with my group. I could go into a long exercise about what I was thinking on each street, but basically I thought I could get him to fold a tight range on the turn because my hand looks so damn strong, and on the river I thought my hand looked so strong that all of his really big flushes would just 3bet jam over me on the turn so therefore the only hands left were hands that were donking to name their price and would fold (I also believed he would fold a hand like AAA). Ultimately though, I think there are just too many assumptions that I had to be correct about in this hand to justify my play. At the time I thought this was CO vs button, so I should have folded preflop. On the turn, I would much prefer to have a heart in my hand to make this bluff with, and since I don't have many just heart draws once the third heart comes in, I should just be folding here because I am trying to bluff into a strong range for double barreling on this board. Finally, my friend pointed this out to be, that I will have a strong range so often on this board, that it really isn't necessary for me to force through a bluff like this. So pretty much, while I don't despise my play on any street, I think the only street where I really made the best possible decision was the flop.

I knew his range was certainly on the tight side, and I haven't played 50nl in forever so I was really unsure about his exact range here so I tried to widen it as much as possible by calling a 3bet OOP. Still a cooler I think considering he was 3betting on the button and still was 3betting 5% from there. If I had JJ I think I can probably find a fold early in a session but not QQ.

Unlucky

QQ < AA

cooler against a fish

I think I am going to try and grind another 10bi or so at 50nl to increase my confidence, but it was really great to get in so many hands and feel so comfortable with my gameplans.

Also wanted to address some of the concerns about my latest leakfinder video. Two comments said they were frustrated by the video quality. When I was recording the footage which I have probably watched a total of 5 times, I really never considered that it might be substandard. I do have a very large laptop and also have two very large video monitors so this might have been some of the problem. Also when I am watching videos, I am rarely doing anything else but smoking a cigar so I did not realize that some people like to have it on a smaller screen while doing something else. I have already finished another leakfinder series that might encounter similarly small print in the stack sizes, but the good thing about the smaller print is that I am able to analyze more tables and thus give you more of a bang for your buck with my comments. Let me know in the future if you want me to just focus on two tables for leakfinders so that you will be able to see everything clearly, or if you can handle the size of the tables. Additionally, I will make sure that the students who make the videos have a very high video quality while recording in the future. Hope this clears some things up, and as always if you have any suggestions for me whether positive or negative I am very interested in hearing from you so that I can give you the highest quality work possible.

Salud!
