July Hands Reviewed at Casa Fuente in Vegas

0

Hey guys, just enjoying my last day in Vegas, wow what a trip! The longest, most expensive, most fun, most stressful, most crazy time of my life. Just so many stories and memories from the last two months both good and bad, and even though I had a bunch of ups and downs I wouldn't change a thing. I am enjoying a great casa fuente cigar at the best cigar bar in the world while drinking a Johnny Walker Blue and I decided to review my online hands from the month so far. I think I am up at least 70 buyins this month and although I thought I was playing some of my best poker ever, here is a conglomeration of some of my biggest losing hands of the month THAT I COULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING ABOUT, that cost me at least 20 buyins. Hopefully this review will help me out.

This player is exceptionally squeeze happy, but I think that this board is just too dry to attempt this play because he can definitely make a big call with TT-QQ. Additionally, there was a tell that he had that I ignored because this was my plan preflop. Again I need to work on adjusting plans, typically one of the greatest strengths in my game is thinking a few streets ahead, but it can also hurt me like here

http://weaktight.com/2487703

I would really like your opinions on this one, 99 and TT as well as 9t are certainly hands that he would do call a 3bet with in position preflop, but I can never see him raising me on the turn with TT, he could get a little scared with 99, but I really thought my only worry was 9T suited, otherwise I just thought there were a lot of floats that he turned some equity and that I double barrel in 3bet pots enough to justify a shove with a pair and a draw or just a draw, I think I am ok with my play here

http://weaktight.com/2487704

his line here is simply never a bluff and if it is, I should just give him credit for being creative/ a huge nut so fold the fucking river

http://weaktight.com/2487706

well he gave me a chance to avoid the cooler, on this dry a board, while it is possible he is bluffing, he is always bluffing with a hand I beat so I should just be calling and seeing how he reacts, if he shoves I can safely fold or give him credit for a great play, if he shuts down I have the best hand, so there is really no need against all but the best players to 3bet shove my AK high here

http://weaktight.com/2487707

sort of a complicated hand here. Preflop he only raises 5% on the button which is really low among regs, I also felt like he was straight forward enough to justify just calling with JJ and expect that even though stacks are shortish with the 3bet and I am OOP, that I can still play well OOP. Flop I can't see any other play but check call, while the flop is not great for me, I thought it was the ideal flop for me to justify my plan that he is straight forward and I will be able to outplay him on later streets. Turn goes check check and at this point I think I have the best hand at least 80% of the time. Now the river makes an interesting card because if he has a total bluff, it becomes a very easy bet for any reg on the river if I check, at the same time I don't think he has K or even Q of hearts because he would continue with it on the turn. So I am stuck in a tricky spot where I think that he will probably still call with the J of hearts, and the ten a lot of times, but fold all other hands. With this knowledge, I think that making a standard bet on the river is a big mistake, and that I should instead shove the river, repping either the king of hearts, or if he is a very good handreader, AQ with the Q of hearts is exceptionally realistic. He makes the call with the absolute top of his range which is the Q of hearts, very shocked he 3bet me OTB with this hand, but I still believe I made a mistake by not bluffing bigger on the river, although I think turning my hand into a bluff is absolutely mandatory.

I remember this session quite well, and I thought I played some of my best poker of the month during it with the exception of this one hand. First of all I thought this player was quite tilted, and he also loves to 3bet out of the blinds, so I think I essentially have the nuts on the flop. Also he is more capable than most of 3bet shoving with a bluff on this board so I really like my flop play. The turn becomes far more interesting when he just donk jams into me. Obviously I called because I thought he was tilted and could also be making this with a semi bluff, but from a reg who is competent this line is just so strange that it is rarely anything but a huge hand, and while I was not worried about a flsuh, I am worried that he has a two pair or set hand, in hindsight just a terrible call and when my buddy troy was sweating me, he instantly said bad call before the hands were flipped up.

I like this play against this opponent, but at the time I had very little info on my opponent, while at the same time there is a pretty good chance he knows who I am and I am pretty sure my reputation proceeds me. We had only played maybe 30 hands together and while I knew that he was a multitabling reg, I didn't have a good feel for his postflop play and without that info it just becomes far too much gambling to be a great play

http://weaktight.com/2487713

this is a terrible fucking call here on the turn. Remember the fucking importance of relative hand strength to actual hand strength, just because I have AA it should not be harder to fold then AJ in this spot

http://weaktight.com/2487714

I am totally fine with my line here, but the river is just such a painstakingly easy fold I can't even tell you, just horrendous by me here

http://weaktight.com/2487717

I am about 20 dollars in equity off of getting the correct price here, either I made a bad betsize on the turn or a bad call, but I made a mistake nonetheless here

http://weaktight.com/2487724

how many times on this blog have I said that overbets from just complete absolute fish = the nuts and how many times do I still call these donkeys, him being a terrible player convinced me into this call when in fact it should do more to dissuade me from the call

http://weaktight.com/2487726

very tough hand here, this is a player who I respect, is definitely capable of making some deep bluffs, but at the same time I also believe that he can overplay a hand like TT or A9 here. I think deep on this wet a board that my best play is to get ot the turn and evaluate. There are a lot of safe cards where I can stack off here, plus I believe he thinks (unfortunately correctly) that with an overpair I would shove here but with a hand like 98 he can get me off of that with a turn bet, so while I don't have a super safe hand like AA here, I think a call and evaluate is the best play event though it will test my skills as a poker player because a card like an ace or a T or an 8 will be difficult

http://weaktight.com/2487731

while this hand is beyond standard postflop, preflop I make just a big mistake, this is certainly a fold or a 4bet preflop, instead I opt to just call, but he is just not 3betting enough on the button to justify this call even when I get him to check close to the top his range on the flop to see a turn

http://weaktight.com/2487732

when I donk the flop and turn here, especially on a paired board but regardless if I am met with some serious resistance, ESPECIALLY on the turn, this is a spot for me to fold unless I have a great read that he loves to make moves/thinks I am full of shit, I am without that read here, so it is a fold

http://weaktight.com/2487735

well he could not have owned me harder, I was shocked that he slowplayed KK in the sb, and I guess it would up being the perfect line against me, although I stil dont understand the rationale for calling KK in the sb against the UTG raiser, particularly when the bb is not a prolific squeezer.

http://weaktight.com/2487736

when playing against someone that is not a fish, and against someone who can beat my range, but will fold a hand like AQ almost all the time here, this is a call, instead the small bet owned me and I had to fold because the best I could hope for was a chop. Very good play by my opponent here, and although I tanked almost calling here, this is just a call anda poor raise

http://weaktight.com/2487738

with how aggro the games have become, it is very tough to fold top pair in a 3bet pot, but this is certainly a spot that calls for it, I cant see him raising a hand like TT here or QJ, and I am in either terrible shape against the rest of his range, or flipping with his draws, so I think this is a pretty clear fold that I did not make

http://weaktight.com/2487740

the first two streets are good calls by me, but the final one just makes this into such an extreme hero call that I think I need to fold the river and look for a better spot. I knew he was aggro, but to CR two streets and then bet the third without a huge bet, against my range that looks like an overpair, I think I can find a fold here

http://weaktight.com/2487741

just simply fold the river, don't get fucking married to the hand. He is a good player and is just not bluffing into 3 people again, and I think he checks AT here

Really looking forward to a relaxing week at home before I have a crazy August that consists of 4 trips/vacations, obviously I still need to work on one of my bigger leaks in poker which is spending a shit load of money :)

Salud!

PS. After I wrote this blog I won a lot of money at a live poker game, stayed up drinking till 10am, had the most miserable hungover flight ever, and then proceeded to have an avalanche of shit happen during my sessions today where I lost 8bi, one of my biggest losing days of the year. So a new blog of shitty hands will be coming
