Good Start to the Week

0

Hey guys, sort of realized after Friday during a poor session that I was a little burned out. I ended up taking the weekend off, and played some golf with all of my buddies. Had a really good time but my game is all of the freakin place. On Saturday I was laying 3 on the tee box about 6 times, which really makes it impossible to score well and shot a 94 at a really nice course we just found. On Sunday I played a really nice local DC course called Lake Presidential and even though I shot poorly on the front again, I had my first good 9 holes in about a month and ended up shooting 83 and beating my buddy by 3 in comeback fashion so that was a lot of fun. Got back to the serious grind today and played 6k hands and won 12 bi. Pretty weird day, never really felt like things were going well till the last two hours. My first session I was up 5bi by the end and was really shocked because I remember it being a serious grind, and in my second session I lost 5bi super quickly. I stuck with it and finished strong, here are the big losing hands.

Unlucky the way the hand ran out, but I think that I played this hand correctly given his 3bet bluff frequencies, and I think that I get max value out of his bluffs.

http://weaktight.com/4856926
Both hands played themselves here.

So I have a lot of questions about how to play against this opponent. The background is that I know he is a big winner at the games, he plays super aggressive, he never bets less than 80% of the pot, and never seems to stop betting. I have seen him overbet in a number of spots without seeing his hand, I think his 3bet frequencies are quite good, and most importantly to this hand is that in our heads up matches in the past I have seen him take this line twice in the past and he has checked flop, bet huge on turn, and bet huge on the river. My thought process here was that I was completely unsure about his river bet range, and I was worried that I only had 12 outs here and the rest of the cards he would just win the pot. I thought the way he played the hand he certainly could have a big hand, but I also thought there were a lot of draws that he would end up playing aggressively and beating me, so I thought raising with all of this equity was the best play. I really am not sure if this is the best play, but I definitely know what adjustments I need to use against this regular because he takes some incredibly unorthodox lines.

99 < AQ 3 handed

http://weaktight.com/4856929
So this guy and I have a ton of history, and although I think this hand is rather standard, I don't love my play here because I think that he has caught me in enough bluffs that I need to switch up my frequencies against him, and reduce the amount of bluffs in my range in more obvious spots.

http://weaktight.com/4856930
Lost a flip

http://weaktight.com/4856931
a little unlucky here, I don't think I can find a fold given the price im getting and the type of player I am against

http://weaktight.com/4856932
I think this is a very standard double barrel against a guy who is only folding to 36% of cbets with some equity in the hand if called. Was quite surprised by the hand he showed up with because I did not think his 3bet calling range extended to this many aces.

http://weaktight.com/4859486
In this same spot this player with no history 3bet/5bet Kjss, so I think getting in tens here is super standard from this point on

http://weaktight.com/4859487
This player has some of the strangest ranges that I have run across in a long time, although here the two hands certainly just played themselves regardless if I just called a 3bet in pos with QQ

http://weaktight.com/4859488
TT < AK hu

http://weaktight.com/4859489
lol why is a reg calling a 4bet with 67ss? Why is he 3betting this in the first place? So many questions, so few answers

http://weaktight.com/4859491
AK < 33

http://weaktight.com/4859492
I guess this hand sort of illustrates my image to most of my opponents, in button vs cold 4bet from bb I get shoved over by KQ

http://weaktight.com/4859494
I did not run well in 4bet pots where my opponents called my 4bet. I thought at the time that this was a super standard spot, but it is important for me to remember that a lot of players even if they are calling 4bets oop don't have a bluff plan to go along with it and are just playing these hands super straight forward. Also my friends pointed out that if I don't have enough history with the player, then I should just be checking back and calling down, and don't need to disguise my hand range by betting here.

http://weaktight.com/4859495
This is a play that I almost never execute, but it was a spot where I was just so sure I was getting 4bet that I was fine having a hand like 66 that I would be happy to 5bet against his range, I think this was a little unfortunate to run into a real hand here 66 < AQ

http://weaktight.com/4859496
Lol, I don't know, I guess the games are interesting. I thought this player would be raising a lot of flush draws on the flop, and really would only run into a losing hand if he had exactly AJ of spades, so easy shove in my mind, was really surprised by the hand he showed up with

http://weaktight.com/4859497
lol, 9 a†' 100, QQ < 99, man looking over my hands today I am really happy to make 8bi

http://weaktight.com/4859498
Man I wanted to fold this so badly, I really think even in a 3bet pot against a guy who is 3betting 15% of hands in sb over a decent sample, he just really didn't seem to be in a bluffing mood today and I think I could have found a really tough fold.

http://weaktight.com/4859499
AK < AA

http://weaktight.com/4859500
First hand at the table, gross set over set in 3bet pot

http://weaktight.com/4859501
I think I can probably fold turn here, because on the turn I think my hand looks like it is going to showdown so I think very few players would be willing to bluff here, another example of how I don't think many players are going to bluff in 4bet pots.

http://weaktight.com/4859502
Unfortunate board runout here for me, I think he takes this same line with bluffs

http://weaktight.com/4859504
AQ < TT

http://weaktight.com/4859505
Failed CR spot, I definitely think that

http://weaktight.com/4859506
I think I maximized value when I was ahead and folded at the right time

http://weaktight.com/4859507
Experimenting on a board I rarely if ever bluff, and there is probably a good reason I don't bluff much here, I think if we are going to mess around on this board floating and expecting him to shutdown with his bluffs is going to be far more effective and less expensive

http://weaktight.com/4859508
So definitely the moral of this set of hands is that I need to have a better plan and expect that my opponents are going to flat my 4bets far more than I expect. As long as I formulate better plans as opposed to be surprised they are calling 4bets OOP, then I will be far more successful in these spots and probably capitalize on a lot of -ev spots that they are calling 4bets in

http://weaktight.com/4869942
JJ < KK

http://weaktight.com/4869943
I definitely made a mistake here in shoving, he has a ton of Axhh in his range, and really the only draw that he has here is Qjhh, and is probably not calling with a hand like a set or two pair. One of my friends even said he was closer to a fold here than a raise, so shows how poor the raise is

http://weaktight.com/4869945
QQ < AK

http://weaktight.com/4869946
Monster fold by my here given the pot odds, not going to get into this any more but super happy with my play

http://weaktight.com/4869947
AK < JJ

http://weaktight.com/4869948
Guess this taught me a lesson about what ranges I need to get the money in preflop against this guy

http://weaktight.com/4869949
He was a maniac, but still another spot where I need to save 29bbs

http://weaktight.com/4869951
Yuck

http://weaktight.com/4869952
99 < TT

http://weaktight.com/4869953
Unlucky

http://weaktight.com/4869954
This was a spot that I thought was definitely close, but I thought his range was pretty capped in this spot, and I thought I had a bluffy enough image to get him to call me light, in fact my image might be too bluffy in this spot and he must think that I am either going to fold an Ax hand to a triple barrel or that I am floating a ton in this spot and am capable of barreling off (not too far off on both accounts I suppose)

http://weaktight.com/4869955
Against this maniac I was more than happy to stack off in this spot

http://weaktight.com/4869957
Gross!

http://weaktight.com/4869959
I gave this fish credit for being on anything but a level 1 thought process, which is stupid because there was absolutely no reason to do so. Also I think that I should be checking this turn back quite a bit and folding to a diamond river and probably find some calls on other cards. With that said so many things here have to go right for me to win the hand, and this player despite being a fish was in no way a bluffy fish. So big mistake all around by me here

http://weaktight.com/4869960
qq < AA

http://weaktight.com/4869961
Well I caught him in a bluff, unfortunately that bluff beat me

http://weaktight.com/4869962
Weird day, felt like literally every time I had QQ and KK and 3bet it, the flop or turn was total misery for me, I think this is a spot where I need to fold but frustration called after making a lot of good folds previously

http://weaktight.com/4869963
After this tilt inducing hand, I did a few quick pushups to get my mind right again

http://weaktight.com/4869964
Man cmon Grant! I told myself on the turn dont fire turn if u cant find a triple barrel, his call was so quick on the turn I chickened out in a big way

http://weaktight.com/4869965
11 outs missed, really like the iso here though

http://weaktight.com/4869966
Was very surprised that AK was in his calling range here preflop to my 3bet CO vs button

weaktight.com/4869967
Horrible board runout here

http://weaktight.com/4869968
Don't mind the strange bluff on the flop, I think it is important to mix up your OOP flop play, but I think this is an incredibly poor fold on the river, at the minimum I am forcing him to fold two pair which my image is not great for, and there is also a very good chance he has the nuts here.

http://weaktight.com/4869969
Poor board runout

http://weaktight.com/4869971
Unlucky

http://weaktight.com/4869972
This bluffy merge rangy guy gave me a really tough time at the start of my second session, but I eventually figured him out in a big way, possibly a sign of some impatience with this sort of call though

Going to grind hard tomorrow, and actually have 3 nice golf courses planned for Wed-Fri. After that my wife is out of town so I will be grinding my ass off the rest of the weekend.

Salud!
