6max 1500

0

Hey guys, first few days in Vegas have been really busy. First of all the house we are staying in totally rocks. Been great lounging around the pool and drinking with the guys. So I played the 1500 6max on monday, felt really confident going in, chipped up to 7k through thin value bets a triple barrel, and a double barrel in the first two hours without catching a hand, then the blinds kicked up, everyone had between 15-40 big blinds and everything went to shit. I think in these 6max tournies, table selection is really important and unfortunately I did not run well in that pursuit. The first table, 4 of the 5 guys were big tourney players online, and they did a very good job and 3bet shoving their stacks over my opens. One mistimed checkraise later, I found myself down to 8bbs. I remained between 9-21bbs for the next 9 hours, had two of the chip leaders in the room at my table which was consistently 4 handed because of all the KOs they were getting, and never picked up a hand so it was really a day of frustration. I was lucky enough to suck out A4 vs kk and KJ vs JJ to stay in the tournament, but just was never in a spot to continue to build chips. I have to give credit where credit is due, and I played against at least 5 players that were just extremely good tournament players that never gave me an inch all day. My final bustout hand happened around 10pm when I shoved AJ for 11bbs UTG+1 and ran into kings. GG, I learned a lot about live tournament poker, what I can get away with and what I need to be careful with for my next tournament. Most importantly, I am realizing the general strategy of most good tourney players and have several ideas for how to most exploit them. Still am really proud of myself for grinding the shortstack for so long, I really never had a hand all day, and absolutely 0 value hands for a reshove, but I stayed tough, grinded the short stack and stayed positive to give myself the absolute best chance to go deep. Hopefully I play the same way at the next tournament, and just pick up a few hands in the right spots next time.

Yesterday, we played a lot of bball, a lot of beer pong, and a lot of pyramid which has quickly become my favorite drinking game, hopefully today I can actually get my grind on. GL to everyone who is playing the WSOP, hopefully I come back strong next monday.

Salud!
