CR member and Leeds native adamwil has played over 1.4m hands at 5NL, and won thousands of dollars, but struggled when he tried to move up in stakes. He contacted CR instructor Verneer, who decided to make a video about moving up in stakes from 5NL to 50NL, using adamwil's play. The series, Destination SSNL, starts today, and we asked adamwil a few questions in honor of his CardRunners debut.
How did you get started in poker?
I started playing around on play chips 4 or 5 years ago, then decided to have a go for real cash in 2008.
Do you play professionally?
I'm unemployed at the minute which is why i play so many hands, but plan on working soon.
What are the keys to your success at 5NL?
I think just trying to play simple and not being impatient trying to force myself win hands (lots of tables).
Are there certain players you avoid?
Not at the moment.
How to you manage tilt?
I usually just go out with friends and forget about poker stuff.
How heavily do you rely on a HUD?
I rely on a hud a bit but dont really go crazy with a lot of stats.
What's your biggest downswing? How did you handle it?
14 buyins, i dont think it really bothered me because i know i can win it back.
What's happened in your previous attempts to move up in stakes?
I didn't do too well so dropped back down to a level i was comfortable with.
What motivated you to finally reach out to Verneer when you did to move up in stakes?
I had enough playing 5nl and thought it was time to try and get off the ground, hopefully it works out.
What are some hobbies?
Biketrials, Cars, Poker
