Matt "jacksup" Matros has had a big 2010. Along with a 10th place finish in the Borgata Winter Open on the World Poker Tour, Matt had four cashes at the 2010 World Series of Poker including two final tables and his first bracelet. Today, he's on The Clock.
The 3 websites I spend the most time on are:
ESPN, Twitter, Facebook
My worst habit is:
General laziness
I’d want my last meal to be:
Butternut squash ravioli from Chestnut (a restaurant in my neighborhood)
The readers would be surprised to learn that:
I love to sing karaoke.
My top 3 favorite movies are:
Half Nelson, Children of Men, Fargo
My celebrity crush is:
Amy Poehler
The most surprising song on my iPod is:
Pomplamoose covering Beyonce's "Single Ladies"
The TV Shows I DVR are:
Jeopardy!, Mad Men, The Daily Show, 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, The Mentalist
My largest personal indulgence is:
I really don't have any. I guess I buy a lot of Blu-Ray movies.
The coolest place I’ve traveled to is:
Australia
I drive a:
Zipcar
The top 3 items on my ‘bucket-list’ include:
Visiting India, Finishing my novel, Working on a feature-length film
If I could go back in time and witness one single event, it would be:
Dinosaurs!
Favorite Drink at a Bar is:
Beer (Sierra Nevada or Sam Adams seasonal)
The talent that I don’t possess that I wish to have is:
Athletic ability
The biggest pot of poker I’ve ever played was:
From an equity standpoint, it would have to be my bustout hand from the 2004 WPT championship. Half a million dollar difference between 3rd place and 2nd place, and the pot itself was definitely worth six figures from a $EV standpoint.
If I could switch shoes for a day, I’d want to be:
President of the U.S. That would be a far bigger adrenaline rush than playing NLHE
Can you describe your computer setup:
Two 20" monitors, well-lit, Aeron chair, fairly standard. (sorry no photo, I'm away from home at the time of this writing)
If I could implement any one change to an online poker room, it would be:
Make the tournament payout structures more rewarding for those of us playing for the win.
My most memorable day in poker was:
Winning my first bracelet at the 2010 WSOP.
My biggest attribute at the poker table is:
There's not really one thing, but if I had to pick it would be ability to work with numbers quickly in my head.
If I could re-choose my poker screen name, I would have made it:
ZapBrannigan
The largest amount of cash I’ve ever held in my hand is:
If casino chips count, $706,903. If only bills count, then about $15k I think.
What was your biggest losing day and what was going through your head afterwards?
Well, I've played a $25K tournament and not cashed, though I had backers for much of it. I've also played a $15K tournament and not cashed, and I didn't have backers in that one. I've never lost more than that in a cash session, as I try to avoid the nosebleed games. I'm pretty conservative with bankroll management.
Can you describe your typical day as your prepare to grind a session out?
I'm a lousy grinder. My typical day is, I work on my writing during the day, hang out with my wife in the evening, then play poker for three or four hours at night.
My biggest poker pet peeve is:
The tendency of so many players to label every play as either great or terrible, when in fact almost all poker plays are somewhere in between.
If I never found poker, I’d likely be:
Teaching writing at a community college.
My favorite prop bet that I play regularly is:
Does credit card roulette count? Also, I always get suckered into taking "Yes" on "will a celebrity cash in this year's main event?" There are usually 8-10 celebrities listed and the price is like +300 or more. It always seems like value, and then none of them ever cash.
When you are sensing or feeling tilted, what do you do to unwind/relieve the anger?
I very rarely tilt. I have a very good personal life outside of poker (married one year, been with my wife for seven years total), which is hugely helpful in this regard.

Hey Von, I guess my genre would be literary fiction, the type of stuff you'd see in a journal or a magazine like the New Yorker. That's the idea, anyway. MM.
cool that there are a decent amount of writers here - what genre do you write?.
